The seamless 2015 Las Posadas Proprietary Red nearly redefines opulence, extravagance, and intensity in its haute couture style. A candidate for perfection, the wine has notes of fruitcake, licorice, black truffle, forest floor, spring flowers, and black fruits that literally soar from the glass and continue across the palate with a cascade of earthly delights. This is a magnificent, almost chillingly perfect wine that has to be tasted to be experienced.JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019 The 2015 Las Posadas comes from an estate vineyard on Howell Mountain that lies at 2,000 feet in elevation, above the fog line. This singular effort has a flamboyant, mineral-laced bouquet of black and blue fruits, forest floor, camphor, chocolate, and exotic flowers, and is an incredible expression of this mountain terroir. With great, great intensity, beautiful purity of fruit, and again, this savory, mineral-driven character, it has enough tannins to warrant 2–4 years of bottle age and will keep for 4–5 decades. This cuvée is 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot and Malbec. Deep and resonant on the palate, the 2015 exudes class from start to finish. Like the rest of the other Abreu 2015s, the Posadas will drink well upon release. Hints of lavender and spice meld into the pliant, inviting finish. There is so much to like here.

This is round, nearly juicy in character, with ripe red and black berries that cascade across a core of silty minerality. It leaves only a light coating of tannin while tapering off with a flourish of inner sweetness and floral tones, as nuances of licorice slowly fade. The 2018 is 59% Syrah, 23% Mourvedre, 15% Grenache, and the rest Viognier, aged 22 months in 50% new French oak. Real nobility of texture here, along with a captivating sweetness and a repeating high-toned suggestion. Builds slowly and lingers long on the finish, with the firm but refined tannins fully supported by fruit. Classy juice, especially considering the sizable Merlot percentage. And more sweet than savory. Incidentally, my two samples of the 2017 Ciel du Cheval Red Wine were too volatile and porty to recommend; both finished with drying tannins.

The palate is seamless and soft, delivering rich red and dark fruit flavors alongside black licorice and a hint of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the wine shows precision with an elegant frame and sturdy tannins, ending with a long-lingering, mineral finish with high-tone red fruits of dark, dusty cherry skin and red plum skin. While obviously dense, the core remains very fresh, delivering serious minerality and a lengthy finish. Brilliant to consume even now, this has a long way to go in the cellar.

Gorgeous crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, lead pencil, and chocolate define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, and has a great, great finish. A classically styled, structured, age-worthy beauty, it will benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age and have 2–3 decades of overall longevity. Trust me, this will pass undetected in a blind lineup of top Bordeaux. Juicy, dusty and spicy aromas waft from the glass with succulent, floral notes that capture the nose. Spiced red cherries, potpourri and dusty black raspberry essences cartwheel with notions of lavender and rose hip before offering up delicate baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is initially subdued and grows in amplitude while offering a balanced structure with succulent tannins. The longer the wine sits on the palate, it increases in spiciness under the ripe, juicy dark red fruit tones. The Sorella continues to evolve in the mouth with persistence, lingering long, leaving behind flavors graphite, crème de cassis and black cherry skin. Just under 8,000 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 22 months in all French oak, 35% new. Set your calendar and put this on your shopping list for when it’s released. RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jul 2022 I’ve been tracking the increasing percentage of Cabernet Franc in the blend of this iconic Tuscan wine. The 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is made with 25% Cabernet Franc, with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. That this heat-resistant grape now makes up a quarter of the blend speaks to how vintners are gearing up to counter climate change. These are intelligent choices, and you can count on this wine to maintain that level of extreme elegance and intensity that it is known for (even when Merlot was a bigger part of the blend). Indeed, this is a new and improved Guado al Tasso with focused aromas of pencil shaving, white pepper and crushed stone that frame a rich core of black fruit. A fluttering of dried mint gives lift and power to the bouquet. This is a beautifully linear and powerful red blend. Deeply pitched spice, mocha and leather nuances meld into a core of plush dark fruit as the 2019 reveals its considerable charms. Readers will find a towering, statuesque Cabernet of the highest level. Graphite, leather, dried herbs, menthol and licorice play off a core of intense, dark fruit. Potent, muscular tannins need time to soften, but, wow, what a wine. Best of all, the Montecillo is one of the most insane values readers will find in elite California Cabernet Sauvignon. I would be thrilled to own it.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2020 Ribolla Gialla Vare Vineyard is super-elegant, savory and nuanced. In 2020, the Ribolla has a bit more edginess than in most years, probably a combination of the natural character of Ribolla, early bottling and the early personality of the year. I like the aromatics quite a bit, though. This needs time in bottle. There is plenty of energy.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2021 Syrah Cleary Ranch captures all the coastal, cool-climate savoriness of the Petaluma Gap. Game, scorched earth, tobacco and black pepper are all woven into a core of dark red-fleshed fruit. Huge tannins, a combination of site and a vintage with low juice yields wrap it all together. This dense, concentrated Syrah needs a few years in bottle, although it is already stunning in its beauty. (Antonio Galloni)
