VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 Wild strawberries, roses, lavender and hints of flowery underbrush form a vividly fruity yet earthy bouquet as the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is round, nearly juicy in character, with ripe red and black berries that cascade across a core of silty minerality. It leaves only a light coating of tannin while tapering off with a flourish of inner sweetness and floral tones, as nuances of licorice slowly fade. This may not be a classic Brunello from Altesino, but I can’t argue with how incredibly delicious it is. (Eric Guido)
RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Feb 2022 The Altesino 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva holds tight to its unique character and power. The classic 2016 vintage produced generous wines that are layered and rich but also coiled tightly at their core. This wine exemplifies this point, adding lots of tart Sangiovese fruit and freshness along the way. It also shows an impressive richness of flavors with dried cherry, licorice, pressed violets, balsam herb and dusty limestone. The caveat with this wine, should you decide to drink it early, is that it needs extra time to open (and a double decanting would also help). This 10,000-bottle production opens beautifully in time.SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 A beautifully integrated and solidly built Brunello, this is hallmarked by textbook aromas and flavors of cherry, strawberry, iron, sanguine and tobacco. Delivers accents of herbs, earth and almond that emerge as it plays out on the long, detailed finish. Approachable now and should age over the next decade or more. Best from 2024 through 2040. 1,250 cases made, 750 cases imported.VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021 The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is so incredibly dark and inward that it prompted me to open a second bottle just to confirm that impression. After an hour, the bouquet started to come to life, with hints of menthol and mint giving way to nuances of black currant and animal tones. It’s much more expressive on the palate, where silky textures are cooled by vibrant acids, and tart wild berry fruits mix with salty minerals and inner violet florals. The 2016 is long and structured, showing balsam herbs, black licorice and a flourish of inner sweetness. This is such an interesting showing as, other than the bouquet, all of the ingredients are here and well proportioned for a long, steady evolution. I’m very intrigued to see where this understated beauty is going over time. Until then, I chose to remain somewhat conservative.
JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022 This has aromas of rosemary, orange peel, sour cherry, beeswax and flower petals. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity and powdery tannins. Crunchy and fresh. Drink now.
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, August 11, 2021 This is really juicy and delicious with ripe cherries and berries, as well as some bark and dried orange. Medium to full body with round, refined tannins and a flavorful finish. Transparent and linear. Lively at the end. Excellent energy. Drink or hold.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021 A silky, open-knit wine, the 2019 Chianti Classico Ama is wonderfully alluring from the very first taste. This gracious, aromatically expressive Chianti Classico from the estate’s young vines, will drink beautifully upon release.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021 Dark fruit notes of blackberry, blueberry and black currant infuse the velvety texture, while a solid base of tannins lies beneath. The tannins linger in the end, with a subtle refrain of fruit. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2023 through 2029. 8,750 cases made, 1,300 cases imported.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022 Blue flower, sandalwood, cassis and spice shape the nose on this lovely red. All about finesse and youthful tension, the savory, elegantly structured palate features juicy Morello cherry, coffee bean and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and focused. Drink through 2027. (Kerin O’Keefe)JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 6, 2022 A fresh and composed red with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with minerals and citrus underneath. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a racy, long finish. Drink or hold.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2020 Chianti Classico Ama is a pretty, understated wine that shows the vivid side of Sangiovese in its bright, red-fleshed fruit. Medium bodied and vibrant, with brisk acids and lifted aromatics, the 2020 is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 10–15 years. Ama is the estate’s young-vines Chianti Classico. I loved it. (Antonio Galloni)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is dark yet perfumed, with lavender and violet tones giving way to masses of ripe plum and cherry. Balsam herbs and hints of chalk develop with time in the glass, adding further depths. This is silky and round, with juicy acidity enlivening its ripe red and hints of blue fruit. Sweet spices, hints of cocoa and licorice linger, as the 2020 tapers off long with just a hint of fine tannin. This showboat of a Rosso is going to win a lot of hearts. (Eric Guido)
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jun 2022 The Marchesi Antinori 2019 Tignanello was born in a classic growing season that saw some cooling summer rains and relatively stress-free conditions. This is an elegant and extremely polished wine made with mostly Sangiovese and smaller parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Here too, the small blending element of Cabernet Franc has been slowly increasing in recent years. The 2019 vintage was born with a good amount of power and tannic structure, and maceration times were slightly reduced as a result. This less extractive approach shapes a polished and elegant wine with plenty of bright berry fruit, cherry, dried mint, blue flower, blood orange and rusty earth. The palate is more compact and streamlined. It shows beautiful grace. After this, the next vintage to watch is the highly anticipated 2021. (Monica Larner)SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022 A supple, elegant red highlighted by bright cherry, black currant, violet, tobacco, iron and oak spice aromas and flavors. Though fluid and seemingly approachable now, this is well-structured and shows the balance to age. Fine length. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2025 through 2042. 25,800 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2019 Tlgnanello is one of the most reserved, understated young wines I can remember tasting here. In so many vintages Tigrarello is quite showy, but in 2019 the nervous energy and brightness of Sangiovese takes center stage. That’s intriguing, because the 2019 blend has a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon than normal, a decision made to compensate for some of the lighter qualities in the Sangiovese. With air the 2019 shows gorgeous depth and captivating inner perfume, even if it is clearly still coming together. The 2019 spent about 14 months in oak, with 50% new wood. Things are always in constant evolution at Artinori. This is the first vintage to incorporate some larger 500L barrels, an approach I think will work brilliantly. (Antonio Galloni)JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022 Extremely perfumed and vivid, with fresh mushrooms, cherry stones and blackberries. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are long and complete. Fresh acidity. Tangy and vibrant. Lovely is the word. Drink or hold.
Sangiovese Made With Organic Grapes 2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59838
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023 A lovely bouquet of lavender, violets and crushed blackberries rises from the 2021 Sangiovese Da-Di. This washes across the palate with an intense wave of fleshy ripe fruits, all balanced by a salty flourish of minerality and tantalizing acidity. The 2021 finishes with grippy concentration yet remains fresh, with blue- and purple-toned inner florals that linger. The Da-di is a varietal Sangiovese that’s refined in amphora, where about one-third of the grapes are left in whole clusters through fermentation. This is an incredibly fun wine to taste. (Eric Guido)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023 The 2018 Nobile di Montepulciano is pretty and understated in the glass, wafting up with a mix of black currants, savory herbs and worn leather hints. This is round with a balanced inner sweetness, displaying mineral-tinged wild berry fruit and nuances of confectionary spice. The 2018 leaves only a gentle coating of fine tannins while finishing with citrus nuances and a hint of hard red candies. The Avignonesi style lent quite well to this warm and rainy vintage; as a result, they created a very delicate yet likable Nobile. (Eric Guido)
WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 Aromas of rose petal, dark spice, woodland berries and camphor form the nose on this fragrant, elegant wine. Loaded with finesse, the linear, savory palate features red cherry, orange zest, star anise and black tea alongside tightly wound, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it impeccably balanced. It’s still youthfully austere, with fantastic aging potential. Drink 2026–2041. (Kerin O’Keefe)RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022 From a benchmark vintage, the Biondi-Santi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a gorgeous appearance with medium concentration highlighted by shiny hues of garnet and dark ruby. The first thing you notice is the compact dark fruit and rather robust textural fiber and power presented here. You almost bite into this wine, and you taste some fine grain linked to the young tannins. That, with the fresh acidity that is the hallmark signature of this estate, guarantees long cellar aging, and I would put my money on this vintage for long-long-term longevity. The fruit is compact and supple with dried cherry, blue flower, iron ore and candied orange peel. There is tobacco, balsam herb and gardening soil in a supporting role, and the wine is beautifully fleshed out but also rich in this balanced growing season. It surely needs more time to come together with pinpoint precision, but the wine’s elegance is a certainty. (Monica Larner)VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021 The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark stallion of a wine that showcases both the depth and radiance of the vintage. At first, its bouquet is dark and earthy, yet quickly blossoms into an enthralling mix of musky red currants, wild peppery herbs, dusty rose and worn leather. While satiny in feel, it’s also sleek and lively, with a vibrant burst of sweet and sour citrus that enlivens its notes of tart cranberry and pomegranate, all wound tightly in a web of saline-minerals. Violet and lavender tones arch across the palate over a core of silky tannins that nicely frame the experience, as a hint of balsamic spice slowly tapers off. The 2016 is one of the most deep and balanced Brunellos that I’ve ever experienced from Biondi Santi. If this is the Annata, then I can only imagine what the Riserva might bring to the table. Something of note is that in 2016, production was down by 15% following the abundant 2015 vintage and the dry conditions in the early part of the season. (Eric Guido)
