It’s texturally deep and pliant, showcasing polished ripe red and hints of blue fruit that are carried effortlessly across a core of juicy acidity. The 2019 tapers off with a subtle tug of fine tannin and sweet raspberry tones that leave a lasting impression. (Eric Guido)

It’s racy and sleek, built on energy, with a mineral core that grips the palate. A cascade of wild berries is excited by tantalizing acidity. This finishes dramatically long, lightly structured and full of zesty tension as salty nuances combine with tart red fruits and hints of sour citrus. The 2022 takes Cerasuolo to a whole new level. Medium-bodied with firm, coffee-chocolate tannins that give a lightly chewy finish. Nice flavors to this, but give it a little time for the tannins to mellow. Drinkable now, but best in 2023. (James Suckling)VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022 One of the prettiest mixes of blackberries tinged with violet candies and spiced orange peels wafts up from the 2020 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riparosso. It’s juicy and fun, yet also silky with medium weight textures; ripe red and hints of blueberry fruits wash across the palate. A staining of minerality lingers, along with a pleasant inner sweetness to balance, as nuances of lavender fade. While not the deepest Montepulciano, the value here is unprecedented. This is silky-smooth with a pretty inner sweetness and crisp cherry-berry fruits. It finishes relatively fresh yet a little short, leaving a lingering hint of licorice. (Eric Guido)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2017 Bright ruby. Precise, spicy aromas of ripe red berries, dark plum and violet accented by cumin and caraway seed. At once densely packed and broad but juicy and refined too, boasting terrific acid-fruit-tannin balance and penetrating red cherry, underbrush and sweet spice flavors. This lovely wine is suave and fine-grained and finishes very long. It would be prudent to decant this at least two-three hours ahead; one bottle I had was initially marred by almost unacceptable levels of funkiness, another was instead brilliantly pure and clean, so allowing this wine to breathe a little prior to serving is not a bad idea.WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2018 Made from biodynamic estate-grown grapes, this is a powerful, intense offering from an Abruzzo icon. A heady mix of Thai basil, anise seed and purple flowers meld within a dense wild berry core. The palate is broad and gripping in youthful tannins, yet plush with a thick-skinned dark berry tone, and speckled notes of herbs and game that linger on the extended finish. Drink 2022–2030.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2017 Appealing flavors of baked raspberry, orange zest, dried thyme and coffee liqueur ripple across the palate in this elegant, medium- to full-bodied red. Bright and harmonious, with creamy tannins and a subtle, lingering finish of tar and loamy earth notes. Drink now through 2030.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022 The 2015 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne opens slowly in the glass. Coaxing reveals an elegant mix of fresh mint, red currant, roses and a dusting of spice. It washes across the palate with beautiful finesse, lifted and fresh, showing no sign of its warm vintage origins. Sour cherry and hints of strawberry give way to a delicate web of fine tannin. The 2015 finishes with pretty licorice and pomegranate nuances, leaving behind a lightly structured sensation. What a pretty expression of Pepe Montepulciano, one that grows in volume the longer it spends in the glass. I foresee very good things here. Of note, the Pepe family was so happy with the balance of the 2015 that they decided to hold back 80% of the production for late release. (Eric Guido)
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022 The 2018 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Archivio is a dark and multifaceted beauty, slowly unwinding in the glass, inward and viral, hauntingly floral, dusty and rooted firmly in the earth. An enthralling mix of smoky grilled herbs, graphite and tart black cherries come together with sage, lifted by dried flowers and hints of fresh mint leaf. It’s rich yet elegant, like crushed velvet draped across the senses, pliant and potent, lifted by brilliant acidity, while staining the palate with citrus-tinged raspberries. There is so much concentration within, echoing purple-tinged florals and lavender tones as this tapers off with incredible length, lightly structured and with a tart wild berry twang. A salty flourish keeps me coming back to the glass. While this may not be as structured as the 2017, the 2018 instead impresses on its immaculate precision and balance. Archivio is produced from the oldest pergola-trained vines on the Tiberio estate, which grow in clay-rich soils. Around 30% of the wine is matured for twelve months in new barrique, yet the integration is perfect. This is a whole new level for Cristiana Tiberio. (Eric Guido)
