  1. Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56146

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2018 Il Carbonaione is one of the most elegant editions of this flagship wine I can remember tasting. Il Carbonaione is usually a rich, bombastic wine, but the 2018 is sleek, gracious and remarkably refined. The fruit was picked a week later than originally planned because of a family emergency. That results in an exotic Carbonaione that is beguiling but not at all heavy. I can’t wait to see how it ages.

  2. Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57672

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
No crus were produced in 2018. The 2018 Barbaresco is aromatically expressive, with a perfumed and mineral character, with rocky earth. It has medium body, good concentration, and plenty of fruit and mineral earth that drive through the finish. An outstanding value, drink 2025–2045. (Audrey Frick)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jun 2022
Packaged in its distinctive brown paper label, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2018 Barbaresco is a beautifully lean and luminous expression of Nebbiolo, and that pretty color should remain intact over time. The aromas are bold and ripe with dark and purple fruit, but the bouquet shows interesting twists with earth, truffle, licorice and grilled herb. As the wine opens in the glass, you begin to notice heavier aromas of raisin and dried apricot. It wears a warm-vintage signature for sure, and for that reason, I would suggest a shorter drinking window for the 2018. With an ample 300,000 bottles made, you get a great value with this bottle. (Monica Larner)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, January 3, 2022
Lovely barbaresco, with all the typical nebbiolo characteristics, such as red berries, mushrooms and dried leaves, as well as hints of bitter orange peel and spice. All this follows through to the medium-to full-bodied palate, where fine, lightly firm tannins add a little grip and additional focus. Compact, but bursting with flavor. Delicious now, but give it a year or two. It will only get better.
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barbaresco is an attractive, open-knit wine to drink now and over the next 10–15 years, maybe more. In 2018 the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. Instead, all of the best lots of those grapes went into the straight Barbaresco bottling, another in a long string of successes from this historic house. Dark cherry, cedar, tobacco and spice fill out the layers. There is good depth and a good deal of tannin too, just not the complexity or nuance of the very best years.

  5. Tement Sauvignon Blanc Ried Grassnitzberg

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59731

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2021
The 2019 Ried Grassnitzberg Sauvignon Blanc is sometimes quite reductive and needs a lot of air, but it is precise, deep and clear. A second bottle was far better and a clearer Grassnitzberg representative, with a deep, cool and intensely fruity nose with mango notes and fine, smoky spice. Complex, elegant and fine on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy, ripe, savory, salty and grippy Sauvignon from Grassnitzberg that is tartly bitter on the finish and needs plenty of time to shine. The 2019 is not at all for young-wine or brand drinkers, but for collectors and connoisseurs of demanding wines. This is a tightly knit, taut, big wine that needs around 10 years before its journey really begins. 13% stated alcohol. Glass stopper. Tasted in Grafenegg in September 2021. (Stephan Reinhardt)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, October 7, 2021
Smoky and flinty nose and, as it aerates, ever more grapefruit, then hay and seaweed. Concentrated with lively acidity and excellent minerality at the long, invigorating finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Glass stopper. (James Suckling)

  6. Tempo d’Angélus

    Grand Vin de Bordeaux
    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59094

    JS92+92–93 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, June 2, 2021
A tight, linear red with lots of currants, salt and cloves on the nose and palate. Really spicy. Medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. A new wine from the owners of Chateau Angélus, from the area of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux.
    RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jun 2021
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Tempo d’Angélus charges out of the gate with bold notions of plum preserves, fresh blackberries and Morello cherries, plus hints of tilled soil, black olives and truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate has a beautifully velvety texture and a racy backbone supporting the generous black and red berry layers, finishing earthy. Very impressive for this price point! (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
    JD89+89–91 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 6/4/2021
A value-priced release from this brilliant estate, the 2020 Tempo D’Angélus comes all from vines owned by Château Angélus and is based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged 18 months in barrel. It’s well worth seeking out and has a dense purple hue to go with classic Right Bank Merlot black cherry and black raspberry fruits, tobacco, cedarwood, and floral nuances. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with good mid-palate density and a great finish, it should certainly be an outstanding wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  7. The Chocolate Block

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#56775

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
A stylish red that’s fresh and focused, showing expressive aromas and flavors of blackberry, dried lavender, espresso and iron in a well-knit, medium- to full-bodied frame. The long, creamy finish is loaded with spice box and sweet smoke accents. Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. Drink now through 2027. 10,545 cases made, 6,800 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, January 24, 2022
This is a soft and fruity red with some reserve and freshness that gives it a medium body with subtle chocolate, tobacco and berry flavors. Medium finish., 73% syrah, 11% grenache, 8% cinsault, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 1% viognier. Vegan. Drink now.
    RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Jun 2022
Perhaps one of the most floral vintages that I’ve seen in a while, the 2020 Chocolate Block is a blend of 73% Syrah, 11% Grenache, 8% Cinsault, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Viognier. The nose is robust, juicy and expressive with hints of bramble, red and black spice and elegant purple flowers. Medium to full-bodied, the mouthfeel displays a balanced structure with focused tannins and lifting acidity that frames the mid-palate. Then wine finishes with a delightfully lingering, fruit-forward essence with a kiss of tar, roses and baked rocks. This will have no challenges making it until its 10th birthday. 2,982 barrels were produced. Give it a try.
    VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2020 The Chocolate Block has a clean, well-defined bouquet of red plum and black currant, plus touches of tangerine in the background. The palate is medium-bodied, plush and generous, with supple tannins and a very smooth, espresso-tinged finish. It’s no wonder The Chocolate Block has such wide appeal across the world.

  8. Thorne & Daughters Rocking Horse

    Cape White Blend
    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60015

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2020 Rocking Horse is a blend of 35% Sémillon, 28% Roussanne, 16% Chardonnay, 15% Chenin Blanc and 6% Clairette Blanche, whole-bunch-pressed and matured in used oak. It has a well-defined, flor-like bouquet offering brioche, grilled walnut, bales of straw and smoke. The fabulous palate presents a sensual honeyed texture effortlessly counterbalanced by acidity. Very harmonious, revealing dried honey, walnut and ginger on the finish. This is a masterclass in winemaking and it will age brilliantly in bottle… if you can resist pulling that cork. (Neal Martin)

    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 4, 2023
An exciting pinot blanc that marries the citrusy ripeness and lively acidity we associate with this category with a pronounced saline minerality. Very crisp finish. Exclusively from the gravelly soils of the Herrenweg of Turckheim. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.
    SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
Elegant and slightly off-dry, this floral white has serious savory details, with green herbs, chamomile and crushed flint running alongside white peach and honey-coated apple. Light-bodied and poised, with a thread of smoke and lemony acidity. Drink now. 156 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)

    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2022
Significantly tannic but also flavorful enough to pull it off, this full-bodied wine is a good candidate for further aging. It brims with black currant, graphite and black cherry flavors that are vivid but not overblown, achieving good balance and complexity. Aged for 18 months in 40% new Hungarian oak barrels, it should be best from 2026. (Jim Gordon)

  14. Champagne Jean Laurent Blanc de Blancs Réserve

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#18017

    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
A blend of four vintages, this fine, mineral-driven Champagne has a taut character. The beginnings of softness are discernible as the bottling ages. It’s likely to be a delicious wine, from 2023. (Roger Voss)
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2014
A lithe Champagne, bright and lively on the palate, with a delicate array of poached quince, lemon pound cake, chopped almond, spun honey and ground spice flavors. Expressive, without excessive weight. Disgorged December 2013. Drink now through 2019. 2,500 cases made.
    ST9090 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2013
(disgorged March, 2013): Light yellow. Spicy orange pith and pear aromas are complicated by hints of toasty lees, sweet butter and ginger. Racy citrus and orchard fruit flavors gain flesh and weight with air, picking up deeper melon and nectarine qualities. A floral note gains strength with air and carries through a long, gently chewy finish, which echoes the pear note.
    RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Nov 2013
Jean Laurent’s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Disg. 3/2013 leads with a greenhouse-like sense of flowering and leafing things along with toast, lemon zest, and a whiff of outright yeastiness. Generously apple-y and lemony on a polished palate and with a discreet note of perfectly supportive sweetness, this finishes with toast-, salt, bitter herb- and apple pip-tinged fruit juiciness, bound to give pleasure over at least the coming year.

  15. Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage Porto

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#51391

    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2022
The Port, with its luscious texture and black fruits, is impressive and dense. Black fruits are given richness and spice by the spirit and the raisin flavors. With its light structure, it is ready to drink. (Roger Voss)
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022
Inviting, with plum cake and steeped raisin and plum notes laced with licorice snap and fruitcake accents. There’s a solid spine for support, but this is approachable now. Try decanting or even giving a touch more time in the cellar. Drink now through 2026. 50,000 cases made, 25,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
    WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/22
A fresh, schist-driven LBV, this wine’s tannins are accommodating in their softness, but still buzzing with mineral tension and energy. The cherry fruit coasts past the tannins, sweet and pleasing with the acidity of sheep’s milk cheeses.
    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Aug 2022
The 2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a field blend bottled in 2022 with a bar-top cork and 113 grams per liter of residual sugar after six years in cask. (There will be no 2016 Graham’s LBV.) Elegant in the mid-palate (unlike its sibling, the Dow’s), this also has good structure, but it is a much better balanced wine. The big fruit of this fine vintage shines through, rendering this rather delicious. This has persistence and focus, plus all that tasty fruit. You can’t go wrong. (Mark Squires)
