RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020 Dark ruby with soft purple highlights, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has an impactful and precise nose of juicy plum, dark cherry and blackberry essence that waft with elegant French oak tones of vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a succulent mouthfeel with oak flavors that bind effortlessly to juicy, plump and dark blackberry essence with subtle flavors of dried herbs and bitter dark chocolate. With a long, drawn-out finish, the wine displays all of its complexities as it lingers on the palate with persistence and a tannic grip. This wine is about layers and texture. Give it a try! (Anthony Mueller)WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2020 Fresh herb and flower aromas are out front, followed by notes of spice and plum. The palate is layered and restrained, with plenty of acidity and tannic structure supporting it all. It’s far from a big bruiser, but this is serious Cabernet, with impeccable balance. (Sean P. Sullivan)VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 Full, dark red. Cool aromas of redcurrant, tobacco leaf, licorice, black pepper and menthol. Very suave and smooth on entry, then pure but reticent in the middle palate, conveying subtle salinity to the flavors of dark berries, soil, graphite and licorice. No easy sweetness here! This classically dry, Old World-style Cabernet is still a bit cool and laid-back but should evolve gracefully. Finishes with firm but fine-grained tannins and subtle savory grip. But not quite the depth for an even higher rating. (Stephen Tanzer)WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/20 For this wine, Greg Harrington and Brandon Moss blend fruit from sources such as Phinny Hill and Dionysus with grapes from their estate vineyards. All about structure at the moment, this is very firm with a tannic spine. It needs time to get beyond its initial notes of violets and sealing wax and reveal the dark fruit within. WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 02/22 The pungent, licorice-scented fruit of this wine is blanketed in smoky scents. Firm and structured, it needs cellar time to integrate.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, July 14, 2021 Here is a red with a solid palate of red berries, crushed stone and fresh flowers. Full-bodied with beautifully crafted tannins that are soft and relaxed. The fruit character is complex with some fresh mushrooms and rose petals to the dark fruit. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but will be much better in two or three years. Drink after 2022. (James Suckling)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2021 The Tenuta degli Dei 2017 Cavalli sees a base of Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and is a terrific dinner wine. It is polished and deep with some of the fruit nuances you can expect of this vintage. However, the overall effect is balanced and smooth with plenty of fruity power, weight and length. Production is about 16,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. RP91+91+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020 Dark ruby, the 2017 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a bold and structured nose with layers of complex aromas of juicy cherry, blackberry, dusty plum, dried herbs, bitter dark chocolate and soft herbaceous green notes. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is full in flavor, displaying a balanced structure that gives pleasure with qualities of spiced black cherry, dusty plum skin and soft mocha expressions that continue to evolve on the persistent, elongated finish. Give this delicious and succulent wine a try.VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 Bright ruby-red. Complex scents of black cherry, currant, menthol, mocha, licorice and peppery herbs, plus a whiff of tobacco leaf; displays a stronger herbal element than the 2016. Plush, silky and easygoing on entry, then very ripe in the middle, with a suggestion of almost liqueur-like mocha/chocolate ripeness. Finishes with broad, serious, refined tannins that dust the palate and build quickly with air. This is softer than the 2016 but without quite that wine’s finesse and light touch. A very chocolatey-rich, dense wine with restrained sweetness and good savory character. Serious concentration.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2022 The Port, with its luscious texture and black fruits, is impressive and dense. Black fruits are given richness and spice by the spirit and the raisin flavors. With its light structure, it is ready to drink. (Roger Voss)SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022 Inviting, with plum cake and steeped raisin and plum notes laced with licorice snap and fruitcake accents. There’s a solid spine for support, but this is approachable now. Try decanting or even giving a touch more time in the cellar. Drink now through 2026. 50,000 cases made, 25,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/22 A fresh, schist-driven LBV, this wine’s tannins are accommodating in their softness, but still buzzing with mineral tension and energy. The cherry fruit coasts past the tannins, sweet and pleasing with the acidity of sheep’s milk cheeses.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Aug 2022 The 2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a field blend bottled in 2022 with a bar-top cork and 113 grams per liter of residual sugar after six years in cask. (There will be no 2016 Graham’s LBV.) Elegant in the mid-palate (unlike its sibling, the Dow’s), this also has good structure, but it is a much better balanced wine. The big fruit of this fine vintage shines through, rendering this rather delicious. This has persistence and focus, plus all that tasty fruit. You can’t go wrong. (Mark Squires)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, June 1, 2020 This is a deep, richer palate with currants, flowers, white chocolate and some almonds. It’s full-bodied with plush tannins and a chewy finish. Yet, it’s so attractive and pretty. A blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 21% merlot, 11% cabernet franc, 9% petit verdot and 9% malbec. Needs more time. Try after 2022.JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/15/2020 Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, the 2017 Perigee Estate Seven Hills Vineyard offers more classic cassis, tobacco, and sappy herbs as well as a solid sense of minerality. Full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully balanced as well as elegant, give it 3–5 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following two decades or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 Bright, saturated ruby-red. Blackberry, boysenberry, licorice and minerals on the nose, lifted by topnotes of Tellicherry pepper and violet. Very suave, silky and smooth, conveying enticing sweetness to its refined dark berry, spice and mineral flavors. Terrific energy and delineation here, and long and suave on the rising finish, where the dusty tannins are beautifully buffered by the wine’s material. A lovely showing, even if this very juicy wine is still a bit youthfully imploded. This may be the most floral of the current red wine releases from L’Ecole.RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020 The 2017 Perigee Seven Hills Vineyard Estate is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 9% each of Petit Verdot and Malbec. The nose opens to an expressive fruit core, highlighting juicy dark red fruit and spiced blackberry essence. Aromas of cinnamon-spiced dark cherries, sweet plums and a dusty minerality sway out of the glass with elements of an exotic floral bouquet. Full-bodied, the wine shows layers and a delineated, fresh frame with succulent tannins, offering a balanced structure across the mid-palate. The mouthfeel shows finesse with a purity of fruit before lingering with persistence, vibrancy and a subtle red spice reflection over the elongated finish. This is delicious juice.WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2020 Cabernet Sauvignon makes up half of this wine, with the rest Merlot (21%), Cabernet Franc (11%), Petit Verdot (9%) and Malbec (9%). Brooding aromas of cherry, plum, mocha, graphite, cherry and herb lead to medium-bodied fruit flavors, backed by tart acidity and firm, grainy tannins. The structure is lovely. It needs some time to stretch its legs, with the tannins giving a bigger impression than they often do from this vineyard. Best after 2024.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2019 Aromas of acacia honey, Spanish broom and toasted almond waft out of the glass along with a whiff of cedar. The aromas carry on to the tangy linear palate, together with Meyer lemon, nectarine and a saline note.
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/16/2019 The Lirac from this estate is the 2017 Lirac Clos de Sixte. It’s another deep purple-colored effort offering powerful notes of ripe black cherries, melted licorice, violets, and pepper. Full-bodied, forward, ripe, and flamboyantly styled, it’s packed with fruit and texture. Drink it over the coming 4–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019 Aged in a mix of tanks (70%) and barrels (30%), the 2017 Lirac Domaine du Clos de Sixte is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. Hints of vanilla and licorice accent dark, cola-like notes and plummy fruit fruit in this full-bodied, plush, velvety-textured wine. It should drink well for 5–6 years. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes. (Joe Czerwinski)JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, October 11, 2019 Attractive violet flowers and a fresh and juicy feel with a ripe-tannin core that has real punch and weight on the palate. Bold wine here. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/15/2020 Coming from the Oldfield and Boushey Vineyards (basically the same vineyard), the 2017 Syrah Motor City Kitty Oldfield-Boushey Vineyard is slightly darker colored and, as with all the Rhones here, wasn’t destemmed and was brought up in mostly neutral puncheons. Blackberries, smoked earth, game, chocolate, and chalky minerality all emerge from this beauty, and it’s a powerful, full-bodied, concentrated effort that will evolve positively for 2–4 years and keep for a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, June 1, 2020 This is deep and flavorful with spice, meat, wet earth and a light, greenish note. It’s medium-to full-bodied, lively and flavor-focused. Drink now.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2019 A mouthwatering, off-dry version that explodes with juicy blood orange and nectarine fruit, candied ginger and grapefruit peel notes and ample spice and herb accents. Light- to medium-bodied and expressive, with a long, racy, mineral-laced finish. Furmint, Hárslevelü, Sárga Muskotály and Zéta. Drink now through 2025. 2,917 cases made, 960 cases imported.WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2019 Delightfully sweet on entry, this late-harvest wine leads with delicate Mandarin orange, lemon blossom and canned peach aromas. It has flavors of apricot and peach and is velvety smooth on the palate. The finish is pleasant with a good level of acidity to counterbalance the sweetness.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2023 Fresh and open, with a set of crushed plum and steeped cherry flavors backed by Black Forest cake and licorice accents on the polished finish. Drink now through 2025. 15,000 cases made, 6,500 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
