  1. Trediberri Barolo Berri

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60219

    JD93+93–96 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
The 2019 Barolo Berri was tasted from two barrels, one of which utilized whole bunches in the fermentation. While both offered freshness and purity, the second barrel offered more significant spice in its profile, with more depth of fruit, and is firmly structured at this stage. The components are compelling and should make for a wonderful finished blend in a few years’ time. (Audrey Frick)
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Berri is tightly wound and austere in the early going. Crushed red berry fruit, iron, dried herbs and white pepper give the Berri a striking aromatic top register. The tannins are a bit nervy, though, so a few years in bottle are warranted. Frost decimated the crop at Torriglione, which is why this wine (typically the Barolo del Comune di La Morra) is Berri in 2019. To be exact, there is 4% Torriglione, as that was the wine used for topping. (Antonio Galloni)

  3. Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57672

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
No crus were produced in 2018. The 2018 Barbaresco is aromatically expressive, with a perfumed and mineral character, with rocky earth. It has medium body, good concentration, and plenty of fruit and mineral earth that drive through the finish. An outstanding value, drink 2025–2045. (Audrey Frick)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jun 2022
Packaged in its distinctive brown paper label, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2018 Barbaresco is a beautifully lean and luminous expression of Nebbiolo, and that pretty color should remain intact over time. The aromas are bold and ripe with dark and purple fruit, but the bouquet shows interesting twists with earth, truffle, licorice and grilled herb. As the wine opens in the glass, you begin to notice heavier aromas of raisin and dried apricot. It wears a warm-vintage signature for sure, and for that reason, I would suggest a shorter drinking window for the 2018. With an ample 300,000 bottles made, you get a great value with this bottle. (Monica Larner)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, January 3, 2022
Lovely barbaresco, with all the typical nebbiolo characteristics, such as red berries, mushrooms and dried leaves, as well as hints of bitter orange peel and spice. All this follows through to the medium-to full-bodied palate, where fine, lightly firm tannins add a little grip and additional focus. Compact, but bursting with flavor. Delicious now, but give it a year or two. It will only get better.
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barbaresco is an attractive, open-knit wine to drink now and over the next 10–15 years, maybe more. In 2018 the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. Instead, all of the best lots of those grapes went into the straight Barbaresco bottling, another in a long string of successes from this historic house. Dark cherry, cedar, tobacco and spice fill out the layers. There is good depth and a good deal of tannin too, just not the complexity or nuance of the very best years.

  4. Andrea Oberto Barolo

    del Comune di La Morra
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#57444

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020
The Andrea Oberto 2016 Barolo del Comune di La Morra offers immediate aromas with floral intensity all backed by delicate tones of dark fruit, tar and licorice. Those floral tones recall rose, lavender and a touch of fragrant lilac. The wine is graceful, slender and enduring. It just keeps humming along with streamlined but focused intensity. Some 18,000 bottles were released.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2020
The 2016 Barolo is fleshy, succulent and super-expressive, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, mint and rose petal all flesh out in the glass, while soft, silky tannins give this forward Barolo plenty of near and medium-term appeal. This is such a delicious wine.

  5. Antichi Vignetti di Cantalupo Collis Breclemae

    2013 / 750 ml. | Item#53490

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2013 Ghemme Collis Breclamae is fabulous. Deep, dark and also translucent, the 2013 possesses magnificent clarity as well as structure. Black cherry, lavender, truffle, mint, spice and new leather all develop in an ample, resonant Ghemme that hits all the right notes. A rich, substantial finish rounds things out in style. The 2013 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring, but it also has the pedigree to develop in the cellar for many years to come. Each time I come back to the 2013 it is more impressive.

  6. G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#58604

    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2022
Lovely Nebbiolo aromas of rose, violet, red berry and botanical herb shape the fragrant nose. Smooth and savory, the elegant palate features juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry and cake spice alongside polished tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. It’s already drinking beautifully but also promises years of pleasure. Enjoy through 2030. (Kerin O’Keefe)
    RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Aug 2022
This wine consistently delivers one of the greatest values to be found in Italian wine. The G.D. Vajra 2018 Barolo Albe has all its cards in play as an immediately enjoyable and extremely food-friendly Nebbiolo. This really is the top of the category in that sense. With straightforward winemaking (fermentation is in steel and aging in large Slavonian oak casks), the wine offers bold cherry, wild plum and plenty of fragrant blue flower and violet. This vintage has the added benefit of softly textured richness. (Monica Larner)
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
A taut, sinewy red, this keeps cherry, strawberry, floral and underbrush flavors under a wrap of tannins for now. Overall, the components are well-proportioned, and this ends with complexity, harmony and length. Best from 2024 through 2036. 3,417 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, October 2, 2022
Aromas of ripe raspberries and dark spice follow through to a medium-to full-bodied palate, with some fine, fruit and spice-coated tannin and a medium finish that firms up at the end. Sustainable. Give this a year or two. Best from 2024.
    WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
This is the estate’s entry-level Barolo, but, according to Giuseppe Vaira, the family never views it as a leftover wine. They harvest nebbiolo from younger vines in the same three high-elevation vineyards each year, although those vines now average 30 years of age. The wine shows classic notes of tar and licorice, with smooth tannins and ripe dark-fruit flavors that make it approachable in its youth.

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Dec 2022
The Bel Colle 2019 Barbaresco is a well-balanced wine with tart fruit, wild cherry, violet, earth and hints of tangy licorice. The presentation is simple and powerful, and that’s exactly what makes this vintage work. Wines from 2019 tend to show a little more natural richness and concentration. That is also the case here. 2016 / 750 ml. | Item#58920

    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, January 3, 2022
Intense nose of fresh and dried red berries, together with dried leaves and dark, clove-like spice. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a concentrated bead of bright fruit and minerals. The tannins pull hard on the finish for now, so wait for this one. It’s structured and layered and definitely built to last. Hold until 2024.
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
The Fabio Oberto 2016 Barolo showcases a shiny or glossy textural quality that is a common characteristic of Nebbiolo from this classic vintage. The wine imparts an especially smooth and silky entry to the palate. In the case of this Barolo, the aromas are a little mixed and varied with dried fruit, savory spice, musky earth, leather and a point of black truffle. There is a hint of plastic or animal that fades quickly as the wine takes in more air in the glass. (Monica Larner)

  10. G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60432

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
Delivers a whiff of grilled beef that gives way to flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose hip and mineral. Compact, even austere, as assertive tannins emerge on the resonant finish. Best from 2026 through 2045. 6,500 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Albe is a nuanced, understated wine, but it is also a rare Albe that needs time in bottle. Sweet floral and spice notes open first, leading to an attractive core of Nebbiolo fruit. Gentle and understated, with lovely precision, the 2019 Albe is a hushed wine that is more about energy than size. I have seen the Albe really blossom with a few years in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well given its super-classic feel. (Antonio Galloni)

  12. Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#59859

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2022
The 2018 Barolo embarks on a rather straightforward performance initially, and the wine gains in complexity as it opens in the glass. The bouquet is elegant and tapered with wild berry, spice and licorice. It is ample in terms of mouthfeel, delivering medium texture and depth. Classic and elegant are two appropriate descriptors. The estate released 12,000 bottles in this vintage. (Monica Larner)
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barolo is a very pretty wine for this vintage. Sweet dried cherry, mint, spice, worn-in leather and dried herbs are all laced together in this attractive, somewhat ethereal Barolo. All the elements are nicely balanced. The 2018 won’t be a long-lived Barolo, but it is quite appealing today. (Antonio Galloni)

  13. Mauro Veglio Barolo

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#57120

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
This wine represents a blend of fruit from Arborina and Gattera in La Morra and Castelletto in Monforte d’Alba. The Mauro Veglio 2017 Barolo opens to a light garnet-ruby color with a glossy shine and a classic aromatic profile of wild berry, tar, licorice and crushed blue flowers. The 2017 vintage is a bit thinner in the mid-palate, but this expression demonstrates good tannic management. Production stands at 25,000 bottles.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2017 Barolo is a delicious entry-level offering. All the elements just fall into place effortlessly. Sweet red cherry, cedar, dried flowers and spice give this lilting, open-knit Barolo lovely aromatic and flavor complexity.

  14. Nervi Gattinara

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#55736

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2017 Gattinara is terrific. It will also give readers something to drink without waiting decades. In 2017, the Gattinara is a bit richer than it often is — the result of the warm dry year — but its profile is super-classic. Sweet pipe tobacco, mint, dried herbs, licorice, dried cherry and Alpine herbs fill out its ample frame effortlessly. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle, but it won’t need more than that to start drinking well. In 2017, Roberto Conterno did not bottle his vineyard-designates. Instead, all the best lots went into the straight Gattinara, an overachieving wine that delivers the goods. I don’t expect the 2017 will be among the most long-lived wines here, but that will hardly be an issue for most readers.
