RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018 Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Proprietary Red Blend Family Reserve Generations is intensely scented of warm black and red currants, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote with nuances of chocolate mint, new leather, tilled soil and fallen leaves. Full-bodied with a taut frame of grainy tannins supporting the densely packed black fruit layers, it has a long lingering minty kick on the finish.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2020 Features a solid range blackberry paste, fig and plum notes, with cassis bush, bittersweet cocoa and licorice root accents. The solidly grippy finish leaves a hefty impression, but this will have fans. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. del Comune di La Morra 2016 / 750 ml. | Item#57444
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020 The Andrea Oberto 2016 Barolo del Comune di La Morra offers immediate aromas with floral intensity all backed by delicate tones of dark fruit, tar and licorice. Those floral tones recall rose, lavender and a touch of fragrant lilac. The wine is graceful, slender and enduring. It just keeps humming along with streamlined but focused intensity. Some 18,000 bottles were released.VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2020 The 2016 Barolo is fleshy, succulent and super-expressive, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, mint and rose petal all flesh out in the glass, while soft, silky tannins give this forward Barolo plenty of near and medium-term appeal. This is such a delicious wine.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 Super sticky here, giving you all you ask for in a quality Vin Santo. Toffee, dried fruit and nutty notes on the nose. Full, viscous feel on the palate with a twist of citrus that turns to salt on the finish. Long and delicious! Nicely done. Enjoy now or hold for as long as you like.WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Made with dried Sangiovese (80%), Trebbiano (10%) and Malvasia Toscana (10%), this opens with aromas of candied orange zest, maple syrup and dried fig. The concentrated, smooth palate offers eucalyptus, honey, black cherry jam and toasted almond that carry on to the long finish.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021 One of the original Late Bottled Vintage brands, this continues to set a fine style. This latest release is full of black fruits that have been softened by extra wood aging. At the same time, the richness of the wine shows strongly and emphatically, giving a Port that has density and ready drinkability.
JD94+94+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/4/2021 The 2016 Brunello is aromatic with fresh rose petal, confected red cherry, and forest floor. The palate is somewhat more savory with dried tomato leaf, tart cherry fruit, and orange peel. Its angular tannins build in tandem with its acidity and age-worthy austerity. This wonderful, tension-driven wine by Caterina Sacchet can be enjoyed over the next 20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021 There is a warmth to the ripeness in this red, like sunbaked earth or bricks, surrounding the core of cherry and berry flavors. Very fresh and long, with iron, tobacco and wild herbs lingering as the rugged tannins exert their influence. Best from 2024 through 2042. 2,800 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2019 Medium ruby-red. Aromas of blackcurrant, dark raspberry, espresso, bitter chocolate and graphite. Silky and plush but also vinous on entry, then densely packed, seamless and deep in the middle, with savory red and blacker fruit flavors complicated by subtle brown spices and minerals. Conveys excellent inner-mouth peppery lift and vinosity without coming across as green. This wine struck me as quite similar to its 2015 predecessor, suggesting that owner/winemaker Greg Harrington was especially successful in avoiding obvious signs of the very hot 2015 growing season. This savory, classically dry, energetic Cabernet Sauvignon finishes with firm, suave tannins and slowly mounting persistence.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020 The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva will thrill Sangiovese lovers. Ample and expressive in the glass, with tremendous nuance, the Riserva is simply exceptional in 2016. Black cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, incense, menthol and licorice bring out the darker side of Sangiovese. I would give the tannins a few years to soften. The 2016 is very clearly a special wine in the making. (Antonio Galloni)RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Apr 2021 The Tenuta di Capraia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Capraia is tightly packed with cherry fruit, raspberry and cassis. The wine’s primary aromas are lifted and bright, and the wine moves over the palate efficiently with fresh, mid-weight appeal. It serves to refresh and revive your palate during a course of Sardinian capra al profumo di alloro, or roasted goat with laurel essence. (Monica Larner)SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2021 A harmonious texture and profile sets the stage for this red’s focused cherry, currant and floral notes. Mineral and tobacco accents sneak in as this plays out on the long finish. Shows excellent structure too. Drink now through 2040. 1,000 cases made, 500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019 Aromas and flavors of blue fruit, wet earth and hints of slate, following through to a medium to full body and chewy tannins. Needs to soften a little. Better after 2021.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2021 Made entirely from Sangiovese, this opens with aromas of violet, tilled soil and dark-skinned berries. The savory palate offers blackberry, tobacco and black pepper alongside polished tannins and firm acidity. Enjoy through 2027. (Kerin O’Keefe)
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 22, 2020 Extremely floral and attractive with crushed lavender, rosemary and violets to the blue fruit. Full body. Tight and integrated tannins and a lightly chewy finish. Shows depth and structure. One of the best from here in a long time. Drink in 2021, but already attention grabbing.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2021 Deep, brilliant ruby. Cherry, cassis, vanilla and incense on the expansive nose, where a zesty mineral note adds vibrancy. Sappy and precise on the palate, offering sweet dark berry, cherry liqueur and violet pastille flavors along with hints of mocha and spicecake. Rich and ample in style but shows superb energy as well. Finishes sweet, seamless and extremely long, with lingering florality and polished, fully integrated tannins.RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020 The prototype of red from Rioja Alta could very well be the 2016 Imperial Reserva, fine, precise and powerful. The grapes for this cuvée were picked between October 10th and 25th, and it’s a canonical blend of 85% Tempranillo and the rest Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha with 14% alcohol and balancing freshness. It fermented with their own Imperial yeasts in oak vats of different sizes and matured in French and American oak barrels for 24 months. This wine has a very defined style that should not change; it has more oak than the Asúa Reserva and is made with grapes not only from Haro but also from Torremontalvo, Villalba and Briones. 2016 was a cooler year, and the wines are fresher and balanced. This has the mushroomy touch from the old cave and plenty of tannins that are going to require powerful food and/or time in bottle. A classic among classics. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020 La Colombina’s 2016 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a dark and sultry appearance, followed by aromas of blackberry, plum and dark cherry. Those dark fruit flavors are not heavy, and instead they show the lightness and lifted aromatic intensity that comes so uniquely to the Sangiovese grape, especially in a classic vintage such as this. Spice, tar and campfire ash come up on the finish. This is a well-priced 11,000-bottle release for medium-term drinking.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020 The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is dark, rich and seductive from the first tilt of the glass. Here I find a mix of black cherry and crushed plums complemented by notes of cinnamon, clove and violet florals. This is silky yet savory, with a dense core of tart blackberry neatly wrapped in a web of salty minerals and fine tannins. In spite of its structure and weight, the 2016 from La Colombina maintains freshness and energy throughout, sometimes seeming more like food than wine through a sense of umami that starts on the palate and lingers throughout the long finish.
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - June 5, 2018 The 2016 Zinfandel Angeli (96% Zinfandel, 2% Syrah, and 2% Petite Sirah) comes from Alexander Valley in the northern part of California. Its plum/purple color is followed by a rockingly good bouquet of spiced plums, cedar, sandalwood, and exotic spice. Medium to full-bodied, focused, elegant and seamless, with a silky texture, it’s very much in the style of the 2016 vintage. While already hard to resist, it should keep for 6–7 years. It’s a great value. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2018 Marietta’s 2016 Zinfandel Angeli is plush, deep, dense and beautifully textured. Expressive floral and spice notes add lift and nuance to this fresh, impeccably balanced Zinfandel. The purity of the fruit here is striking.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2019 Juicy and gutsy in feel, with lots of steeped plum, fig and blackberry notes inlaid liberally with melted black licorice accents. A singed mesquite hint scores the finish. Drink now through 2021. 400 cases imported.
