Aromas of plums, black cherries, blackberries, tomato leaf, dried herb and spice box. Medium-to full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Rich and fleshy on the palate with a lots of black fruit. Flavorful finish. Try from 2023.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021
There’s depth to the concentrated black cherry and blackberry fruit, shaded by vanilla, earth and graphite notes. Dense and muscular, with a long finish. Sangioveto, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2028. 15,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022
Black-cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Some lead pencil and slate, too. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and firm acidity, which adds verve and tension to the wine. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chianti Classico is bright, elegant, and wonderfully translucent, with lovely red fruit character and all the elegance of Radda coming through nicely. Mint, blood orange, pipe tobacco, and spice linger on the brilliant, delineated finish. (Antonio Galloni)

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59149

    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2019 La Massa is a very pretty wine. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, mint, chalk and spice accents are all nicely delineated. There’s terrific energy driving the 2019. Once again, Giampaolo Motta’s Sangiovese-based blend delivers the goods. (Antonio Galloni)
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022
This has aromas of sour cherries, currants, lemon leaves and olive stones. It’s juicy and bright with a medium body and fine tannins. Savory, focused and tight finish. Better from 2023.

  4. Piaggia Carmignano Riserva

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60261

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
It’s hard to put the glass down while exploring the depths of raspberry compote, dried orange peels, roses, exotic spice and a dusting of cocoa that form the absolutely stunning bouquet of the 2019 Carmignano Riserva Piaggia. This is pure elegance. It’s silky and refined as liquid violet florals and ripe red and black fruits easily rush across the palate. Its vibrant acidity maintains exceptional finesse despite the massive primary concentration slowly taking hold. The 2019 finishes long with a coating of sweet tannins and balsamic-tinged cherry. The balance here is amazing, which might trick readers into finishing their bottles far too quickly, but trust me, the best is truly yet to come. This is Rock Star juice. (Eric Guido)

  5. Castello di Ama San Lorenzo

    Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#59248

    RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
The Castello di Ama 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is one of the most distinctive wines in the ample portfolio offered by this estate. I always seem to find a balsamic note in the San Lorenzo Sangiovese (a blend of some of the property’s best fruit, with a touch of Merlot and Malvasia Nera thrown in), and it definitely comes through in this vintage with grilled rosemary and even a touch of black olive. This wine is truly Mediterranean in spirit and it boasts an all-Italian identity. Its supple, mid-weight texture is amplified by elegant fruit and spice. And the wine’s fresh acidity makes it the ideal pairing partner with your favorite Tuscan pasta or pici recipes. (Monica Larner)
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a deep, potent wine. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, licorice, chocolate, spice infuse the San Lorenzo with tons of dark Sangiovese character. A heady, muscular wine, the 2019 exudes tremendous richness. I would give it a few years. The 2018 is a wine of aromatic intrigue and intensity. (Antonio Galloni)

  6. Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56146

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2018 Il Carbonaione is one of the most elegant editions of this flagship wine I can remember tasting. Il Carbonaione is usually a rich, bombastic wine, but the 2018 is sleek, gracious and remarkably refined. The fruit was picked a week later than originally planned because of a family emergency. That results in an exotic Carbonaione that is beguiling but not at all heavy. I can’t wait to see how it ages.

  7. Castello dei Rampolla Chianti Classico

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#57047

    JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 5, 2021
This is a fantastic Chianti Classico with so much complexity and intensity. Cherry, chocolate, hazelnut and wet earth with some black truffle. It’s medium-bodied with depth of fruit and fantastic texture and length. Don’t miss this. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Unfiltered. Very drinkable now, but one for the cellar.
    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Juicy and delicious, this opens with aromas of iris, rose, dried aromatic herbs and wild berries. Smooth and medium-bodied, the palate features succulent Marasca cherry, ripe raspberry, ground clove and crushed mint set against taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2023–2028. (Kerin O’Keefe)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
This is such a pretty wine and such an absolute pleasure to drink, thanks to its intrinsic simplicity and brightness. The Castello dei Rampolla 2019 Chianti Classico gives us a textbook rendition of Tuscany’s Sangiovese grape, with the extra brightness, sharpness and crisp acidity that comes naturally. This wine reveals a profoundly authentic character with wild berry, lavender, garden soil and crushed aspirin. You could drink it now or possibly stretch its drinking window to the 10-year mark.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2019 Chianti Classico is an explosion of aromas and flavors. Freshly cut, flowers and red/purplish fruit abound. A classic example of the year, Rampolla’s Chianti Classico is flat-out gorgeous and one of the best recent editions I can remember tasting. The 2019 is a blend of Sangiovese (aged in cask) plus dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (done in French oak).
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022
An inviting red, with strawberry, cherry, rose hip and floral aromas and flavors allied to an elegant frame. Features a firm backbone of tannins and lively acidity, which provide support, and lingers with bright fruit and a crisp feel. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2030. 3,000 cases made, 1,250 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

    Occhio di Pernice
    2016 / 375 ml. | Item#57792

    JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
Super sticky here, giving you all you ask for in a quality Vin Santo. Toffee, dried fruit and nutty notes on the nose. Full, viscous feel on the palate with a twist of citrus that turns to salt on the finish. Long and delicious! Nicely done. Enjoy now or hold for as long as you like.
    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Made with dried Sangiovese (80%), Trebbiano (10%) and Malvasia Toscana (10%), this opens with aromas of candied orange zest, maple syrup and dried fig. The concentrated, smooth palate offers eucalyptus, honey, black cherry jam and toasted almond that carry on to the long finish.

  10. Carpineto Brunello di Montalcino

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#56225

    JD94+94+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/4/2021
The 2016 Brunello is aromatic with fresh rose petal, confected red cherry, and forest floor. The palate is somewhat more savory with dried tomato leaf, tart cherry fruit, and orange peel. Its angular tannins build in tandem with its acidity and age-worthy austerity. This wonderful, tension-driven wine by Caterina Sacchet can be enjoyed over the next 20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
There is a warmth to the ripeness in this red, like sunbaked earth or bricks, surrounding the core of cherry and berry flavors. Very fresh and long, with iron, tobacco and wild herbs lingering as the rugged tannins exert their influence. Best from 2024 through 2042. 2,800 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.

  11. Tenuta di Capraia Chianti Classico Riserva

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#58278

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva will thrill Sangiovese lovers. Ample and expressive in the glass, with tremendous nuance, the Riserva is simply exceptional in 2016. Black cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, incense, menthol and licorice bring out the darker side of Sangiovese. I would give the tannins a few years to soften. The 2016 is very clearly a special wine in the making. (Antonio Galloni)
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Apr 2021
The Tenuta di Capraia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Capraia is tightly packed with cherry fruit, raspberry and cassis. The wine’s primary aromas are lifted and bright, and the wine moves over the palate efficiently with fresh, mid-weight appeal. It serves to refresh and revive your palate during a course of Sardinian capra al profumo di alloro, or roasted goat with laurel essence. (Monica Larner)
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2021
A harmonious texture and profile sets the stage for this red’s focused cherry, currant and floral notes. Mineral and tobacco accents sneak in as this plays out on the long finish. Shows excellent structure too. Drink now through 2040. 1,000 cases made, 500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019
Aromas and flavors of blue fruit, wet earth and hints of slate, following through to a medium to full body and chewy tannins. Needs to soften a little. Better after 2021.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2021
Made entirely from Sangiovese, this opens with aromas of violet, tilled soil and dark-skinned berries. The savory palate offers blackberry, tobacco and black pepper alongside polished tannins and firm acidity. Enjoy through 2027. (Kerin O’Keefe)

  13. Avignonesi Nobile di Montepulciano

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#59814

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The 2018 Nobile di Montepulciano is pretty and understated in the glass, wafting up with a mix of black currants, savory herbs and worn leather hints. This is round with a balanced inner sweetness, displaying mineral-tinged wild berry fruit and nuances of confectionary spice. The 2018 leaves only a gentle coating of fine tannins while finishing with citrus nuances and a hint of hard red candies. The Avignonesi style lent quite well to this warm and rainy vintage; as a result, they created a very delicate yet likable Nobile. (Eric Guido)

    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
Masses of crushed raspberry, peppery florals and smoky mineral-earth tones create a bouquet that is impossible to ignore as the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is a pure and vibrant yet silky effort that contrasts ripe berries with hints of sour citrus and savory spice. While packed full of zesty energy, it finishes classically dry and persistent, leaving notes of roses and cloves to linger. Give the 2020 another year of cellaring for the full effect and enjoy over the medium term. (Eric Guido)
