  1. G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#58726

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Aug 2022
The 2018 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is not super intense, but it is balanced in its own way. The wine is subdued but complete with softly yielding tannins to support an elegantly streamlined mouthfeel. Bricco delle Viole is a high and cool growing site in Barolo at 400 to 480 meters in elevation with characteristic Sant’Agata marl soils with fossils. The wine represents a selection of fruit from over seven hectares. With fermentation in steel tank and aging in large Slavonian oak, you are invited to a silky, lifted and beautifully delicate experience with an accessible personality. (Monica Larner)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
An elegant version, this red features rose, black currant, cherry and mineral aromas and flavors that show a hint of eucalyptus. Linear in profile, this is solidly built on a graceful frame, with finely woven tannins and vibrant acidity. Best from 2026 through 2045. 1,042 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
    WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2022
Heady aromas of violet, camphor, leather and tobacco lead the way on this fragrant red. On the palate, tightly knit, fine-grained tannins accompany ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry and licorice. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2025–2035. (Kerin O’Keefe)
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is finely cut and chiseled, as it so often is. Dried flowers, mint, crushed rocks, pine and red berry fruit all grace this taut, sculpted Barolo. The 2018 has all of the energy of this site, but its signatures are decidedly dialed down. (Antonio Galloni)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, October 2, 2022
Intense, flavorful Barolo that shows some good, nutty red-fruit character and fine, firm tannin. Medium-bodied and very tight. Needs time to even out. Try from 2024.

  2. G.D. Vajra Barolo Ravera

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#54953

    WE9797 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021
From the township of Novello and from what is now widely recognized as one of the denomination’s top vineyard sites, this stunning wine offers intense aromas of wild berry, new leather, flowers, camphor and grilled herb. The delicious, structured palate shows finesse and power, featuring ripe red cherry, blood orange, cedar, licorice and iron while noble tannins provide support. Reflecting the vintage, this won’t need years to come around but will also age well for at least another decade. Drink 2022–2032.
    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/27/2021
Lifted and herbaceous, the 2017 Barolo Ravera is noted by aromas of fresh pine, ripe red cherry, licorice, and menthol. The palate has depth without weight and is noted by ripe raspberry fruit, apricot, and black tea. Drink 2024–2050. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021
Notable for its purity of fruit, this Barolo features black cherry, black currant, violet, mineral and tar aromas and flavors. Harmonious and lithe, with an underpinning of mineral that lingers through the dynamic finish. Best from 2025 through 2045. 510 cases made.
    RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
The G.D. Vajra 2017 Barolo Ravera shows solid build and consistency, with more rich and saturated fruit compared to the other Barolo releases from this historic estate. The Ravera cru offers broad shoulders with a tight textural fabric. That powerful approach makes a good sounding board for the wine’s dark cherry, plum, dark mineral and spice flavors. This is more of a red meat wine. 6,000 bottles were released.

  3. Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Grand Cru

    Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58882

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023
Intense and tightly wound, this red is firmly structured and energetic, featuring cherry, strawberry, stone and spice flavors, with the acidity and tannins lending support for future evolution. All the components are there, this just needs a few years to knit together. Best from 2027 through 2045. 258 cases made, 129 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
    VN94+94–96 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is often one of Jadot’s strongest cards amongst the Côte de Beaune reds and this is no different. It has a captivating bouquet with earthy red fruit, graphite, just a faint hint of menthol that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with a dash of white pepper towards the sustained finish. It will require several years in bottle to show its best, but it will be worth waiting for. (Neal Martin)
    RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with notions of raw cocoa, orange rind, warm spices and smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it’s deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, resonant finish. (William Kelley)

  4. Loveblock Tee Sauvignon Blanc

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#60052

    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022
Always experimenting, Erica and Kim Crawford (yes, that Kim Crawford, although he sold the famous winery with his namesake years ago) have used green-tea tannin extract in place of sulfur as an antimicrobial and preservative. It completely changes this famous wine style. Medium gold in color, it smells like honeycomb, pineapple turnover cake, lemon verbena, wild herbs and, yes, green tea. The palate is fresher than the nose and color imply. It’s dry with a gentle texture and lovely juiciness. Zesty fruit, ginger and a slight bite of tannin at the finish make for a characterful and highly food-friendly wine, more in the vein of a Chardonnay than a traditional Marlborough Sauvignon. (Christina Pickard)
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023
Distinctive and aromatic, with floral details and touches of orange water, dried pineapple, peach cobbler, honeycomb and toasted herbs. Reveals serious freshness and verve from the crisp acidity on a supple frame, with lingering accents of candied ginger and nutty rooibos tea. Drink now. 2,000 cases imported. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

  5. Mionetto IL Prosecco

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#16720

    WS8787 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2003
A simple line of sweet, honeyed lime fruit kept taut by a limestone austerity, this is a clean, light sparkler for aperitifs.
    SP8686 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2011
Light-bodied and floral, this Prosecco displays hints of honeysuckle, apricot, mandarin orange and spice. Lightly juicy and frizzante, with a lingering finish. Drink now. 75,000 cases imported.
    WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/29/2004
Fresh and clean, with aromas of slate, citrus and green herbs. The palate delivers lemon-lime flavors and a modest bubble bead that doesn’t overwhelm. And when folks say packaging means nothing, ignore them. This one comes in a cool bowling-pin shaped bottle that’s capped like a beer. The tagline on the label points out that Prosecco is the “gentle” sparkling wine. Yeah, gentle on your wallet.

  6. Mount Eden Vineyards Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#57543

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is going to need a number of years to come around. The only question is how many. In 2017, the Mount Eden Cabernet is shockingly opulent. Inky black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and incense are all dialed up in this super-sized Cabernet. Even so, there is plenty of structure lurking beneath. I can’t wait to see how this ages.
    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
A brilliant, youthful, unevolved wine that will give Ridge’s Monte Bello a run for its money, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep ruby/purple hue to go with a wonderful perfume of blackcurrants, blueberries, lead pencil, vanilla bean, exotic flowers, tobacco, and bouquet garni. Needing plenty of air to show at its best, it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate and has a concentrated, powerful style, ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, aged in used French and American oak, it’s going to benefit from 4–6 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have 30–40 years of overall longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2022
This has a zesty set of loganberry, raspberry and sweet bay leaf notes mixed together, along with flashes of violet, mesquite and anise. There’s a good tug of warm gravel running underneath and nice energy throughout. Should mellow nicely with cellaring. Best from 2024 through 2034. 1,285 cases made.
    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021
Balanced aromas of redwood and pine give depth to the asphalt and leather elements on the nose of this bottling. The American oak seems prominent on the dense, leathery palate, where dark and dried fruits play along with sandalwood and mahogany flavors.
    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21
This is a staunch mountain wine that needs a day of air to come out of its shell. It’s all hard edges at first, not so much about fruit, though the fruit is present; not inviting, but it leaves room for you to come inside. As the wine begins to relax, it feels like an old-fashioned cabernet with woodland flavors of mountain fruit and savory wild mushrooms. Powerful in its youthful structure, it needs a decade in the cellar for that structure to evolve.

  8. Pursued by Bear Baby Bear Syrah

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57793

    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Impeccably balanced and refined yet plump with personality, this red offers multilayered blueberry and huckleberry flavors accented by black olive and smoky cracked pepper. Finishes with rich, polished tannins. Drink now through 2030. 237 cases made. (Tim Fish)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
A tad reductive on the nose, so be sure to let this breathe. Hot stones, wild herbs, ripe plums, blackberries and vanilla on the nose. Full-bodied with fine tannins. Vibrant and complex. Atop the core of ripe dark fruit there is ground baking spice, oregano and white pepper. Very steady. Drink or hold.
    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022
Fruit and barrel intertwine on the aromas, with notes of char, roasted coffee bean, vanilla and dark fruit. The palate is creamy in feel, showing intensity and sophistication. Baking spice notes linger on the finish. Oak plays a prominent part but plays it well. (Sean P. Sullivan)
    JD91+91+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/9/2022
Ripe black fruits, smoked herbs, graphite, and spicy, peppery herb and floral notes emerge from the 2018 Syrah Baby Bear, a medium-bodied, elegant, incredibly pretty, balanced Syrah that can be drunk today or cellared for 8–10 years. This estate continues to play at a very high level, and this is another terrific wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 02/22
This burly wine has so much richness that, in all your luxuriating over it, you may overlook the woodland scents of mushrooms, the amaro flavors and foresty tannins. Winemaker Daniel Wampfler has managed to build a great deal of complexity into a big syrah.

Packed with dark fig, boysenberry and blackberry fruit, this pumps along with ample depth and drive, picking up licorice snap, roasted applewood and dark tea notes along the way. Nice energy through the finish too, thanks to an underlying iron note. Drink now through 2030. 1,000 cases made, 150 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

Leading off the reds, the 2019 Crozes-Hermitage Vieilles Vignes offers a dense purple color as well as ripe, powerful notes of smoked red and black fruits, scorched earth, chocolate, and a touch of smoke meat. It’s rich, medium to full-bodied, and balanced. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  11. Taylor Fladgate 10 Year Old Tawny Port

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#31248

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015
The NV 10 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled in 2014 with 105.23 grams per liter of residual sugar. Easily the 10 with the most weight in the Fladgate group’s lineup this issue, it is a rather powerful 10 year old Tawny with plenty of pop, the biggest and baddest of the trio (Fonseca, Croft and this). There is very fine concentration of flavor for a 10 year old Tawny. If I had a quibble, the alcohol shows at times, especially early on and rather notably when drunk a little too warm. (Around 60 degrees Fahrenheit is a lot better than room temperature most of the time, to be sure, not just here.) Overall, the weight, complexity, mouth feel and grip on the finish still make this my favorite of the group of 10s submitted by Taylor Fladgate this issue, although it’s close and there are some pros and cons. This comes with a bar top cork, i.e., not intended to be aged (although it most certainly can hold a couple of decades barring cork failures).
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2018
Juicy and focused, offering dried cherry, fig and bergamot notes inlaid with red licorice and fruitcake flavors that marry the flattering and racy sides. Drink now through . 45,200 cases made.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2014
This very complete aged tawny has all the right nuts and fruit characters that show a Port that still looks back to its fruity origins. The style is ripe, full and sweet, a mellow wine that only hints at the spirit behind it.
    WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2008
Soft and glistening with a light rosewater perfume, this delicate Tawny balances sweet cherry and wood flavors with plenty of acidity so the wine finishes clean.

  13. Veuve Clicquot Rosé

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#22560

    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2018
This mouthwatering rosé Champagne shows textural density, sitting like raw silk on the palate and offering flavors of dried white cherry, grapefruit granita and ground ginger, with a light and lingering toast note. Drink now.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2013
This is a beautiful, full rosé that is rich and shows a fine balance between acidity and fruitiness. This bottling is also mature with toastiness coming through, giving a softer, rounder character. There is weight, and great acidity on the finish.
    WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2013
A whimsical play on fruit and spice, this is delicate enough to hint at an orange blossom scent and meaty enough to serve with cured sausages. It bristles with acidity over red fruit, lasting on heady complexity.
    RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Dec 2008
The NV Brut Rosé is a straightforward, accessible wine to enjoy over the next year or two. With a little additional refinement in the tannins, this bottling might merit a slightly higher score. This is Lot 14009917, disgorged between December, 2006 and January, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2010.

  15. Caprili Brunello di Montalcino Riserva AdAlberto

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#57140

    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022
A taut, linear red, hallmarked by cherry, strawberry, green olive, rose, sanguine and iron aromas and flavors. This is packed with fruit, backed by a solid matrix of tannins and an aftertaste of wild herbs, fruit and tobacco. Best from 2026 through 2045. 400 cases made, 200 cases imported.
    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Feb 2022
The Caprili 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva AdAlberto (with only 5,000 bottles produced) is a standout wine, showing intensity, smooth integration and lots of varietal personality. “Classic” is probably the best word to apply here, and I use that descriptor with care. The tannins are expertly integrated, and even at this young age, the wine shows no rough edges. It is polished and integrated to the end. Fruit comes from a single hectare of vines with rocky clay soils that lock in important moisture during the summer months.
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ad Alberto is sultry and dark, captivating the senses with its mix of crushed stone, wild herbs, red currants, dried roses and ashen earth. The textures here are like pure silk, seamless and polished, with potent black fruits and savory spices that penetrate deeply as fine tannins mount under an air of tobacco and dark inner florals. It leaves the palate reeling with a combination of residual acids, tart berries and sour citrus, all held firm in youthful poise. The 2016 Riserva Ad Alberto is absolutely stunning, but it will require a number of years in the cellar to reveal all of its charms.
