    VN92+92+ pts. - Vinous - May 2023
A burst of sour melon and crushed rocks gives way to green apples and fresh mint as the captivating 2022 Rosato blossoms in the glass. This blends vibrant acidity with zesty mineral tones and sweet spice to create a truly harmonious and high-energy vibe on the palate. Nothing is out of place as the 2022 finishes with a tinge of crisp minerality, leaving the mouth watering as gingery spice hints fade. This is stunning today, yet it may get even better over the coming months in bottle. (Eric Guido)

  4. Kamen Cabernet Sauvignon

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59867

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Martini clone from the core of the estate. A heady, ample wine, the 2019 is endowed with striking opulence. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha shows tremendous depth. Attractive floral notes emerge with a bit of aeration, adding brightness. The contours are remarkably soft for a young mountain Cabernet. These wines age beautifully, their youthful opulence notwithstanding, so I would not be in a rush here. (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022
Alluring, with steeped plum and cassis notes cruising through, backed by lively licorice snap, bramble and sweet tobacco accents. A long echo of singed alder permeates on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2034. 2,250 cases made. (James Molesworth)

  5. Feudo Montoni Nero d’Avola Lagnusa

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60422

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022
In a cloud of crushed violet candies, sugar-dusted currants and hints of sage evolve, making the 2020 Nero d’Avola Lagnusa a total aromatic pleasure. Soft-textured and round, this impresses further with ripe red and blue-toned fruits, complemented by sweet spice over a core of vibrant acidity. The Lagnusa finishes remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry and a bitter twang of sour citrus. (Eric Guido)
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Delivers wild strawberry, raspberry and red licorice notes that are expressive and juicy, with tea rose, thyme and tar notes and bright orange peel acidity. Long and creamy on the palate, with fine, chalky tannins. Drink now through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. (Alison Napjus)

  6. Gini Soave Classico

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#58163

    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2022
The 2021 Soave Classico is remarkably pretty with yellow flowers, wet stone and freshly sliced pear. This is mineral and focused upon entry, with perfumed orchard fruits and a salty flourish that returns toward the close. Pear and peach skins resonate, as this tapers off lightly structured with an almost-herbal tea-like quality. The Classico is a blend of some of the region’s top vineyards with an average vine age of 90 years. (Eric Guido)
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
A well-cut, minerally Soave, with a tropical edge of passion fruit and dried pineapple, a base note of petrol and aromas and flavors of poached apricot, orchard blossoms and grated ginger. Drink now through 2028. 9,000 cases made, 500 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

  7. Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#57458

    JD94+94+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 20% Syrah aged in 50% new oak) is similarly deep purple and offers a straight-up stunning bouquet of ripe cassis and blackberry fruits intermixed with chocolate, Asian spices, cured meats, and new leather. A powerful, concentrated, rich 2019, it has a great mid-palate, building yet ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. The purity of fruit here is top notch, and while it’s unquestionably a modern style Châteauneuf, the oak is nicely integrated and I suspect will disappear completely with 5–6 years of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
Deep violet. Oak-spice- and mineral-tinged aromas of ripe cherry and black currant are joined by garrigue and floral notes that build in the glass. Alluringly sweet and expansive in the mouth, offering juicy red and blue fruit preserve, succulent herb and licorice flavors braced by an undercurrent of smoky minerality. A vanilla nuance emerges on an impressively long, penetrating finish firmed by gently chewy tannins.
    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Although matured in 50% new oak, a core of pristine black cherry and cassis flavors entices in this blend of Grenache (50%), Mourvèdre (30%) and Syrah (20%). Supple in mouthfeel and accented by dustings of cocoa powder and Christmas spice, it finishes with charry, gripping tannins. Approachable already, the wine should improve through 2035.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021
Warm in feel, with a gush of plum puree and blackberry paste flavors, liberally laced with black licorice and roasted alder notes. A solidly built, modern version, with a nice tug of warm earth on the back end. Best from 2022 through 2034. 700 cases made, 280 cases imported.

  8. Ridge Monte Bello

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59092

    JS9999 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 16, 2022
This is a very powerful Monte Bello with currants and blackberry, black licorice and smoked meat. Mint. Some sesame seed, too. It’s full-bodied with incredible darkness and saltiness like volcanic salt. Umami. Grilled seaweed. Flavorful and captivating. It goes on for minutes. Try after 2025, but this may age forever.
    VN9898 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2019 Monte Bello is a wild, exotic wine. Huge, soaring aromatics meld into a core of heady, exotically ripe fruit. Not a shy wine by any means, the 2019 is atypically opulent, and yet all of the classic Monte Bello structure is there, underneath all of that fruit. The 2019 needs time in bottle to shed its baby fat, but there is a lot to look forward to. I imagine it will always be a pretty exuberant wine. Inky red fruit, blood orange, espresso, sweet American oak, cedar and pipe tobacco leave a lasting impression. In a word: magnificent! (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
This has a densely packed core of vivid red and black currant and mulberry fruit, which is encased for now in a mix of charcoal, cast iron, singed mesquite and apple wood. Shows terrific drive, though, and everything is in proportion, with an echo of violet hinting at some inner purity. This will just need time to unwind. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2040. 5,700 cases made. (James Molesworth)
    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello is a more Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and the balance Cabernet Franc, all hitting 13.7% alcohol. As usual, it was aged in new American oak. It shows the higher Cabernet component and is deep purple-hued and tight and closed, with a primordial vibe to its dark blue and black fruit, smoked tobacco, vanilla bean, graphite, and cedarwood aromatics. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has terrific overall balance, building, ripe tannins, a good sense of freshness, and outstanding length. It reminds me slightly of the 2018 with its more elegant, streamlined profile, but I expect this to build with bottle age, and it should have 2–3 decades of overall longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  9. Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#51364

    JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 27, 2020
A red with plenty of ripe fruit, such as berries and cherries with some fresh-herb and lemon undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with bright fruit and fine tannins. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia is an immensely rewarding, inviting wine. Juicy and racy, with no hard edges, the Riserva captures the allure of this warm, dry year. There is plenty to like in the 2017, starting with its depth and volume, I won’t be surprised if the Riserva turns out to be even better than this note suggests. Sweet red fruit, cedar and blood orange give the 2017 striking aromatic intensity and lift.
    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2020
Aromas of blue flower, spiced plum, new leather and sunbaked earth form the inviting nose on this pure Sangiovese. Made with organically farmed grapes, the smooth, savory palate doles out fleshy black cherry, baking spice and chopped mint alongside velvety tannins that give it a polished texture. Drink through 2025.
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Mar 2021
If you have a platter of fatty porchetta and are looking for a worthy Tuscan wine for that party, look no further. Packaged in a black label, the Volpaia 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia (made with organic fruit) does a great job of showing purity and freshness in what was a challenging vintage for sure. This Riserva reveals delineated tones of cherry and dark berry with crushed limestone, blue flowers and some of the wild herbs and bramble that I often recognize in wines from this corner of Tuscany. I happily recommend it to all Sangiovese enthusiasts.
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
Black currant and blackberry fruit defines this juicy, saturated red, with earth, cedar and tobacco adding accents. Finishes with a firm edge of tannins. Best from 2024 through 2040. 5,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

  10. Ridge Geyserville

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#60618

    VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2021 Geyserville hits the palate with a burst of dark red/purplish fruit, sweet spice, lavender, chocolate, dried herbs and American oak. I would be in no rush to open the 2021, as it is clearly an infant at this stage. The blend is 76% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 6% Petite Syrah and 2% Alicante Bouschet. The 2021 is a powerhouse, that much is pretty clear. (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
Tightly focused and briary, this blend offers density without weight. Presents plum and blueberry flavors accented by dill and green peppercorn as this builds tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. Drink now through 2032. 9,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)

  11. Spottswoode Family Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#52129

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
Made of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple in color and prances out of the glass with vivacious blackberries, crushed black cherries, warm black currants and red currant jelly scents plus exotic hints of cassia, cardamom, fenugreek and star anise with a waft of underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy and beautiful poise, with bags of bright, crunchy black and red fruit plus a firm, fine-grained texture, finishing long and spicy.
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
Spottswoode’s 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has been simply tremendous on both occasions I have tasted it so far. Sweet red cherry, red plum, flowers and mint give the 2017 striking freshness to complement its decidedly mid-weight structure. The intense heat of the vintage caused ripening to slow down and yielded a wine with just 13.7% alcohol, which is low for both the estate and Napa Valley in general. Spottswoode was one of the first estates in the valley to adopt a more moderate approach to farming and that really paid off in 2017, as a wine of this level in that year could have only resulted from impeccable farming. In a word: magnificent!
    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2020
Looking at the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which was bottled two months prior to my tasting, it too has a Château Margaux-like complexity and elegance, with beautiful notes of crème de cassis, sandalwood, dried flowers, tobacco leaf, and lead pencil. Harvested all pre-fire, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and remarkable purity, all making for a quintessential Spottswoode that’s going to benefit from 3–5 years of bottle age and keep for 20+ years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 22, 2020
Features a sleek and racy edge, with damson plum, bitter cherry and black currant fruit working together, revealing pinpoints of savory, sage and iron scattered throughout. The mouthwatering finish shows the vintage’s slightly brambly grip, but with superior integration and energy to most of its peers. Best from 2022 through 2038. 4,019 cases made.

  12. Volpaia Balifico

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56266

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2018 Balifico, Volpaia’s Sangiovese/ Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is fabulous. Rich and inky, the 2018 offers up a compelling mélange of dark berry fruit, dark spice, licorice and espresso. I especially admire the wine’s textural richness. I imagine the 2018 will drink well for many, many years to come. In this tasting it is a total knock-out.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021
Alluring violet, black currant and black cherry fruit introduces this seductive red, with firm, pointed tannins and vivid acidity providing structure as this glides to a lingering, detailed finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2037. 750 cases made, 200 cases imported.
