  1. La Marca Prosecco

    NV / 1.5 L. | Item#40598

    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2007
A delicate, well-balanced Prosecco, showing a good blend of baked apple, sour lemon and grapefruit, with a lightly creamy mineral texture on the palate. Medium froth, with some body and a pleasant lemon and mineral finish. Drink now.
    BD8989 pts. - Beverage Dynamics - May/Jun 2011
Fresh citrus with hints of honey and white flowers on the nose; soft, light and delicate; delicious.
    WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2013
Scents of dried grasses and sweet apples carry through this Prosecco. It lasts on nutty flavors, pleasantly balanced for sipping on the beach.
    WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2012
Widely available, this easy Prosecco offers fresh aromas of citrus, stone fruit and honey. It’s elegantly packaged with a light blue label that would look gorgeous at a lunchtime table set by the pool.

  2. Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

    2012 / 1.5 L. | Item#38983

    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2014
A dark, loamy style, with warm tar and espresso notes underscoring the core of black Mission fig, Black Forest cake and steeped plum fruit. Juniper and singed alder hints add texture and contrast on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2027. 500 cases imported.
    RP92+92–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2013
Made from older vines and a tank-aged blend of roughly 85% Grenache and the balance Mourvedre and Syrah, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has additional levels of kirsch, garrigue, ground herbs and black raspberry as well as a full-bodied, decadently textured profile on the palate. Despite the richness level here, it remains gorgeously fresh and even elegant. Enjoy it over the coming 10–12 years. Drink now–2024.

  4. Orin Swift Cellars 8 Years in the Desert

    2020 / 1.5 L. | Item#59179

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
The exact proportions and origins of the 2020 Zinfandel Blend 8 Years in the Desert are deliberately kept fuzzy by the winery, but the wine does include Petite Sirah, Syrah and Barbera in addition to Zin. Aged in roughly half new oak, the nose brings an overlay of vanilla to a core of ripe blackberries. Full-bodied and open-knit, it adds briary, herbal notes on the palate, plus a bit of cracked pepper. Soft, dusty tannins mark the finish, along with hints of mocha and bittersweet chocolate. Drink it over the next several years. (Joe Czerwinski)
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2022
A bold and brawny blend, offering straightforward dark berry and savory spice flavors. Ends with a peppery accent. Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Barbera. Drink now through 2030. 29,000 cases made.

  5. Château Haut-Bailly Pessac-Léognan

    2006 / 1.5 L. | Item#34296

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Feb 2009
A superb success for the vintage, the 2006 exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a poised, classic bouquet of sweet black cherries, graphite, camphor, truffles, and a subtle hint of oak. Medium-bodied with a stunningly layered texture, impressive purity, and beautiful balance, this cuvee is haute couture in a glass. Although surprisingly approachable, it won’t hit its adolescent stage for 8–10 years, and will last for 25–30 years thereafter. Bravo!
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2009
Berries, mineral and violet on the nose follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a beautiful floral finish. Starts out earthy, but turns rich and beautiful. Evolves beautifully in the glass. Best after 2013. 6,665 cases made.
    ST91+91+? pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - May/Jun 2009
Full ruby-red. Sappy aromas of black and blue fruits, licorice pastille and menthol lifted by a floral topnote. Then tight, dry and classic on the palate, with terrific energy and an impression of weightlessness to the youthfully imploded flavors of black fruits, minerals, camphor, cedar and tobacco. As smooth as it is, it's also quite serious and uncompromising. Showing better than a sample I tasted last year right after the bottling, but still an infant. Offers impressive cellaring potential.

  6. Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    2009 / 1.5 L. | Item#32385

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 7, 2011
Sinewy and reserved, with a light dusting of cocoa powder over the tangy damson plum, red licorice and cassis notes. The long, supple finish, with a lovely wafting note of Lapsang souchong tea, is packed with minerality and tight-grained tannins that will need time to fully evolve. One of the more backward 2009s, though this should pick up steam in the cellar. Best from 2013 through 2025.
    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2011
The 2009 is showing better out of bottle than it was last year. Gorgeous kirsch liqueur notes, raspberry jam, forest floor, spice box, new saddle leather and a peppery spiciness are all present in this deep, voluptuously textured, open-knit Clos des Papes, which is atypically forward, luscious and approachable already. These wines often need a good 5–10 years of cellaring in the more structured vintages, but the 2009 is gorgeous from the get-go. This full-bodied, deep, concentrated wine has a deep purple color and should drink well for 20–25 years without ever really closing down. Readers may want to think of this as a slightly more concentrated version of the 2003, which is one of the great stars of that vintage.
    ST93+93–95 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Mar/Apr 2011
Deep ruby. Intensely perfumed cherry, garrigue and flowers on the nose, plus notes of licorice and smoky Moroccan spices. At once fleshy and sappy, with incisive, spicy red fruit flavors complicated by herbs and floral pastilles. Finishes spicy and with superb intensity, echoing the spice and floral notes emphatically. This sample was a blend from five of Avril’s giant, mostly old foudres Avril averred that “14.5% alcohol is the jumping off point for high-quality grenache, any less and the flavors aren’t complete. This should be just above that so it will be fresh and balanced.”

  7. Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Sanctus Sanctorum

    2020 / 1.5 L. | Item#58559

    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Very alluring, and while densely packed, this is very silky and refined in feel. Presents perfumed raspberry, cherry and plum puree notes laced with sandalwood, incense and rooibos tea. Flirts with exotic as the fruit hangs on the finish, where a sweet wood spice hint echoes late. Approachable for its beguiling nature, but there’s no rush at all. Drink now through 2040. 800 cases made, 200 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
    JD96+96–98 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
I’d wager a candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Sanctus Sanctorum is 100% Grenache from a single parcel of old vines in the La Crau lieu-dit that’s still resting in demi-muids. Incredible Provençal notes of kirsch liqueur, blackberries, ground herbs, lavender, and garrigue all emerge from the glass. This beauty is like liquid Provence in a bottle! Full-bodied, rich, structured, and balanced, certainly don’t miss a chance to try this wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  8. Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Reservée

    2012 / 1.5 L. | Item#39984

    RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2013
As to the 2012s, while there will be no Cuvee da Capo in the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is a beauty. Tasted out of multiple barrels (all of which rated between 94 and 97), it should be a classic Pegau with aromatics similar to the 2010, yet not quite as much depth or richness. Full-bodied and nicely concentrated, all of the samples showed the freshness of the vintage, with ample mid-palate depth, high quality tannin and loads of character. It should benefit from short-term cellaring and have 15–20 years of longevity. Drink 2016–2032.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2015
A dark, alluring style, with tobacco, chestnut and alder notes surrounding a core of blackberry, plum and cherry fruit. Lots of garrigue details line the finish, showing a warm paving stone hint. Should settle in nicely in the cellar. Best from 2016 through 2023. 6,670 cases made.
    ST92+92–94 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2014
Bright purple. Smoky, spice-accented aromas of blackberry and cherry-cola, with sexy floral and mineral overtones. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering an array of red and dark berry preserve flavors complicated by hints of Indian spices and black pepper. Rich and energetic, with strong finishing thrust, slow-building tannins and a late kick of smoky minerality. I was looking for some funky gaminess here but didn’t find any.

  9. Dominus

    2017 / 1.5 L. | Item#52318

    RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
There was about 50% of a normal crop this year for the 2017 Dominus, due to strict selection. Grapes were harvested from September 21 to October 3 and the wine was bottled in June 2019. This year the blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new French oak barrels. Very deep purple-black in color, it sashays nonchalantly out of the glass with graceful notions of potpourri, forest floor, crushed rocks, Ceylon tea and licorice with a core of black currant cordial, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and preserved plums plus a waft of garrigue. Full-bodied, the palate has a beautifully impactful, wonderfully quiet intensity of black and blue fruits with loads of floral and spicy sparks, framed by firm yet plush tannins, finishing with long-lasting earthy notes. 2,800 cases were made.
    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2020
The grand vin is the 2017 Dominus, which is based on 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, harvested between September 21 and October 3, and aged in 40% new French oak. Chateau Lafite-like notes of blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cedary tobacco, and gravelly earth all emerge from the glass, and it’s full-bodied, has a terrific sense of elegance, lots of tannins, and a great finish. This tight, powerful, concentrated Dominus will benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age and keep for 25 years or more. 2017 doesn’t get much better. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2020
A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, this classically structured red is luxurious in aromas of dried herb, cedar and clove. The palate balances rich fruit and dense oak with underlying freshness and longevity. The tannins are grippy yet seamless, and beginning to smooth out. Best from 2027–2037.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 22, 2020
This delivers a focused and refined core of cassis, damson plum and raspberry puree notes, laced with precise savory, sage and black tea threads. Shows lovely detail throughout, with a late iron minerality emerging slowly. Stylish, this seems approachable now, but there’s some serious embedded grip here too. A wine that should expand with cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2022 through 2040. 2,800 cases made.

    2009 / 1.5 L. | Item#34122

    RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Dec 2011
A perfect wine, the 2009 Ermitage Le Pavillon (1,093 cases) boasts a black/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of acacia flowers, blackberries, blueberries, roasted meats, creme de cassis, truffles, graphite, powdered rock and new saddle leather. Extremely dense, noble and pure, this monumental Ermitage is built for 50–100 years of cellaring.
    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2012
This has a very alluring ganache edge, which melds nicely into the core of crushed plum, blackberry and currant notes. Lots of anise and briar emerge on the back end, along with ample toasted spice and incense. The very long finish has riveting acidity, while the fruit and ganache notes echo on and on. Dense but precise. Best from 2015 through 2035. 1,093 cases made.

    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2015
One of the more overt, voluptuous Zinfandels in the range, the 2013 Giuseppe & Luisa blossoms in the glass with effortless grace. Dried dark cherries, plums, tobacco, leather and smoke. The flavors are dark, bold and racy, yet the 2013 retains its mid-weight personality and plenty of nuance. Layers of flavor build to the creamy, layered finish.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2015

  13. Orin Swift Cellars Abstract

    California Red Wine
    2020 / 1.5 L. | Item#59291

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
While the exact blend of the 2020 Proprietary Red Abstract hasn’t been disclosed, winemaker Dave Phinney allows that he starts with Grenache and builds on that, usually with Syrah and Petite Sirah. The wine also includes some Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. The wine offers up scents of black cherries, accented by garrigue-like herbs and spice, including a hint of lavender. It’s full-bodied without being heavy, rather open-knit and easy to drink, with a long finish that’s both mouthwatering and gently dusty. I wouldn’t bet on cellaring it for a decade, but it’s delicious now, so why wait? (Joe Czerwinski)
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2022
This blend offers a potpourri of hearty aromas and flavors, with black raspberry and cherry flavors accented by smoked pepper, orange peel and black olive notes that finish with medium-grained tannins. Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Tempranillo and Malbec. Drink now through 2030. 46,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)

    Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
    2019 / 1.5 L. | Item#59222

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2022
A nicely focused version, with cassis and bitter plum puree supported by a graphite spine, which is well-buried in the fruit. A judicious apple wood frame lets the fruit play out, with a late hint of chaparral. Drink now through 2032. 28,681 cases made. (James Molesworth)
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Palermo is assembled from vineyards in Pope Valley and Coombsville, among others, supplemented by bits of Merlot, Petite Sirah and Syrah. Subtle cedar notes accent cassis and cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is supple and softly dusty in feel, then turns a bit tart and thins out on the finish, adding hints of bitter cocoa. 15. Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle

    2009 / 1.5 L. | Item#33081

    RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Dec 2011
As I wrote last year, the 2009 Hermitage La Chapelle is easily the greatest, most profound La Chapelle since the 1990. Most of this cuvee comes from Le Meal and Les Bessards vineyards, with a touch of Les Roucoules fruit in the blend. It is an opaque purple-colored wine with enormous concentration in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of graphite, creme de cassis, blackberries, licorice, beef blood and a touch of smoked game. Boasting phenomenal intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel and 50 years of longevity, the only thing that could possibly hold it back is that most consumers should plan on laying it away for 8–10 years.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2012
This is packed and well-rendered, with notes of fig, boysenberry confiture and ganache at the core and powerful structure pushing from behind. Shows plenty of roasted tobacco and vanilla bean on the slightly stolid finish, but there’s a density and brooding length here that sets it apart form the pack. Best from 2017 through 2032. 250 cases imported.
    ST94+94–96 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2011
Glass-staining purple. Intense, assertively perfumed aromas of blueberry preserves, cherry, licorice and violet, with a strong incense quality. Impressively deep and spicy, offering floral-accented dark berry flavors that show superb clarity and a lively mineral quality. Tangy acidity adds lift and cut to an endless, sappy finish. This wine’s blend of richness and energy is outstanding.
