WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2011 Although there is brandy spirit on the nose, the palate is much more balanced. The wine has a rich feel to it, very fruity forward and attractive. It shows a great jelly note on the finish.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2012 Refined, with bright flavors of dried berry, plum compote and cherry tart that are long and lush. Very creamy on the finish, which features chocolate mousse. Drink now. 6,000 cases imported.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2012 In the full Fonseca style, this aged tawny shows both rich fruit and a more serious wood-aged character. Good acidity follows the sweet initial taste, broadening into ripe flavors of nut, plum jelly, and a final crisp acidity.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2012 Fresh and grapey, with plenty of grip and power behind dark plum, chocolate and berry flavors that feature slate and pepper notes. Drink now through 2020. (Kim Marcus)WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - April 1, 1999 David Guimaraens, who makes the wines for both Taylor and Fonseca, blends Bin 27 to share the deep richness and fruitiness of a big, round Fonseca Vintage. With all its elements beautifully integrated, the wine comes across as fresh plum and figgy fruit, round and lovely tight in the middle as Fonseca Portos are blended to be. This generous wine consistently shows at the top of the proprietary ruby class.WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2011 Full, rich and fruity wine, enticingly aromatic, with strawberry fruits and an easy, just tannic edge. The wine is soft, ripe, the fruits finely balanced with acidity.
RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2002 Dense ruby/purple colored, with an exotic, exuberant perfume of black fruits, flowers, incense, and licorice, this unctuously-textured, full-bodied port is one of the most concentrated of the vintage. Sweet, expansive, and succulent, this large-scale, but remarkably well-balanced effort is surprisingly forward and accessible (by Fonseca’s standards). Anticipated maturity: 2006–2025.SP92+92–94 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 15, 2002 [Barrel tasting] Tightly wound and unyielding. Lots of plum and raisiny character. Full-bodied, medium-sweet and very, very velvety, with lots of fruit and round tannins. Good grip. Very harmonious for Fonseca.WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2003 Voluptuous, warm and black, this wine follows a simple line even as it grows increasingly dynamic with air. The fruit is smooth and grapey, starting from a dark, stony scent of broken schist and then pouring out full and lithe. Smoky tannins, melding with the alcohol into a licorice ripeness, seem to brighten the finish, adding to the lift of the fruit. The natural simplicity of the balance should allow this to develop for decades.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2012 This is gorgeously vibrant and grapey, with good cut to the luscious dark fruit and cedar flavors that are flanked by zesty acidity and tannins. A touch brooding midpalate, with a minerally rush and a finish of slate and iron. Best from 2016 through 2036.WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2012 A classic Fonseca, rich and powerful, with just an extra edge of weight from the vintage. It has a dry character, a tannic edge that gives great promise, but the open-hearted fruit is all there. A wonderfully intense wine for aging.WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2011 The voluptuous 2009 vintage seems to play right into Fonseca’s house style, creating a cool, concentrated wine. There’s a schisty grip of tannins and a fine cut of acidity to balance chewy blueberry jam flavors. Darker notes of roasted black cherries and brighter strawberry layer detail into the finish. A delicious young Porto, this will probably be at its peak 20 years from the vintage.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2018 Date, fig and mulled plum fruit flavors form this broad and juicy core. Cinnamon, black tea and hazelnut notes fill in the background. Shows some power, with the cut and drive for balance. Drink now. 30,000 cases made.WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2014 The wine is rich, ripe and fruity with good acidity as well as a bite of spirit and old-wood aging. It is well balanced, keeping the freshness of a 10-Year-Old while also showing good signs of its wood aging. Just what a 10-Year-Old should be.WS8787 pts. - Wine & Spirits - October 1, 2004 Fruit-leather flavors of dried apricot combine with a sweeter tone, like baba au rhum. this is a dark tones, pleasantly woody wine for dried fruit or nuts.
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2019 The NV Six Grapes Reserve Port is a blend of typical grapes aged in used wood for up to three years. It comes in with 114 grams per liter of residual sugar and was bottled with a bar-top cork in August 2018. In the Symington lineup this issue, this iconic brand is the polar opposite of the Dow. In comparison, the Dow is rounder and bigger but also a bit flatter and with less well-defined fruit, while this is more lifted and fresher, with better focus and more intensity on the finish. It has a beautiful expression of fruit as well. I’ve seen it available on the street for a lot less than that “suggested” release price, so don’t hesitate to look around.WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2011 A dry wine, firmly tannic, although also with acidity and black currant fruit. Spices and licorice add interest, while the tannins finish this attractive wine.SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2010 Lots of sweet dark plum and sweet cherry flavors dominate, with plenty of milk chocolate. Clean and balanced on the straightforward finish. Drink now. 30,000 cases made.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2013 A complex and full-bore tawny, with deep, intense flavors of orange cream, glazed apricot, baked peach and roasted pineapple that are balanced by concentrated chocolate and toffee notes. The bright finish is filled with spice and supported by fresh acidity. Drink now. 25,000 cases made.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2006 This is a hugely dry, burnt style, very concentrated. The licorice and bitter coffee flavors are dense, layered and well balanced with the acidity. A serious wine that demands attention.WS8686 pts. - Wine & Spirits - April 1, 2000 Buttery, caramel flan flavors enrich this mature, toasty tawny. It finishes warm, with a silky custard softness rather than grip. Serve with a walnut or almond tart.
WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2005 This is a great Port, from a great house. It is packed with solid, structured, rich and intense black fruit flavors. Its tannins show considerable aging potential. It is a big, ripe wine, balanced by a long, lingering dark aftertaste.WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2005 An expansive chord of mineral and black fruit flavor, this vintage of Graham’s is all-enveloping in its sheer power. The tannins and the fruit strike a balance with dense, floral, purple-black flavors over crushed stone. That schisty grip of the tannin ends up feeling supple and curvaceous, defining the boundaries of the fruit rather than restricting it. The best vintage of Graham’s in recent memory, this 2003 should be drinking well from 2025 to 2046, and should live well beyond that.RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Nov 2005 Violets, roses, spices, and candied dark fruits emanate from the glass of the murky black/purple colored 2003 Graham Vintage Port. After four days of air, this wine’s aromatics sweetened further, displaying jammy blackberry and blueberry scents. Bold, full-bodied, and expansive, the Graham benefited the most from extensive contact with air of all the 2003s tasted for this report. This opulently jammy wine assaults the palate with powerful yet soft layers of oily, candied red fruits as well as notes of tar and hints of mocha. A highly concentrated effort, it is creamy textured, suave, and reveals an admirably long finish filled with additional layers of dark fruits intermingled with spices. Projected maturity: 2030–2055.ST9595 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2006 Deep, saturated ruby. Initially reticent aromas of dark chocolate and nuts; showed a high-pitched eucalyptus quality as it opened in the glass. Then almost shockingly huge and rich in fruit, with wonderfully lush, complex flavors of cassis, violet, minerals, spices, flowers and exotic chocolate. The tannins are seductively sweet, yet the finish boasts terrific focus, not to mention outstanding persistence. In terms of sheer palate-saturating flavor and texture, this runs a close second to Fonseca among these 2003s. For long aging.SP92+92–94 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2005 [Barrel tasting] This is big and juicy with loads of sweet and rich fruit as well as a racy tannin structure that impresses. Full-bodied, medium-sweet and long on the finish. I like this very much.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jul 2022 The 2019 Tinto is a 55/20 blend of Touriga Nacional and Sousão, with the remaining 25% a field blend from old vines (80+ years), unoaked and coming in at 13.4% alcohol. This is not the most interesting red of this group, but it is reasonably priced in this lineup. It has a bold, fruit-forward demeanor and a real backbone. Most of all, though, it puts that into a precise package with good acidity and a balanced demeanor. On the finish, it has some plums and strawberries mingled together. This is nicely done at a good price. There were 60,000 bottles produced. (Mark Squires)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 15, 2003 Amazing aromas of orange and lemon peel, with hints of toffee, caramel and honey. Full-bodied and luscious, with lots of sweet fruit and a long, subtle finish that goes on and on. A benchmark for 10-year-old tawnies. Drink now.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2012 A finely balanced wine that combines rich red fruit flavors with acidity, a slight tang from the spirit and a feeling of warmth and roundness. It finishes with an almond note and fresh acidity.
