  1. Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#58426

    WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023
This full-bodied and beautifully balanced wine is powered by energized fruit acidity, giving it a lively mouthfeel, vivid green apple and lemon zest flavors and a snappy finish, while subtle oak notes remain secondary. Fermented in oak barrels and stainless barrels, and matured without maloactic conversion, the wine is super refreshing, clean and mouth-watering and should only get more complex and smooth with time. Best from 2024–2031. (Jim Gordon)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023
Always an impressive bottling, the 2021 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch was barrel fermented in a 75% new French oak and 25% stainless steel. Boasting fabulous aromas of lemon curd, apple, pear and pencil shavings, this non-malolactic Chardonnay is full-bodied, round and generous on the palate, then crisp and refreshing on the finish. If it’s not as complex or rich as the very best Chardonnays California has to offer, it’s not that far behind, and the pricing and availability (6000 cases produced) remain reasonable for a wine of this quality. Cassis, dried blueberries, violets, ink, graphite, dried leaves and cigar box on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Smooth and supple with excellent balance and length. Drink from 2023.
    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022
A terrific, well-priced Napa Cabernet, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis has a great nose of pure cassis fruits as well as tobacco, spring flowers, and a touch wet stone and graphite. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a good sense of elegance and ripe tannins. Drink bottles over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is a blend of 99.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and .5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs forth with notes of black raspberries, redcurrant jelly and fresh blackberries, plus hints of dried mint, damp soil and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate gives up tons of juicy black and red berry flavors with great freshness and sturdy, grainy tannins, finishing earthy.

  3. Substance Chardonnay

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58692

    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, April 22, 2022
Aromas of candied ginger, baked pear and fresh herbs. Full-bodied with a lovely, oily texture. Layered flavors of chamomile and lavender at the beginning, but turns toward fresh cream and then the note of candied ginger on the nose returns. Linear and balanced. Drink now.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023
The 2020 Chardonnay CH lifts from the glass with a confectionary mix of candied apple, baking spice and mint. This is round and opulent in feel with cooling acidity to balance, as the 2020 traverses spectrums of tropical melon and ripe orchard fruits. It cleans up beautifully through the finish, leaving a twang of saline-minerality, as pretty inner florals slowly fade. (Eric Guido)
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
A golden yellow color in the glass, the 2020 Ch Chardonnay offers aromas of blown sand, yellow apple and pastry cream with elements of popcorn kernel and sweet citrus. Medium-bodied, the wine offers a delightful mineral and textural drive over the mid-palate before expressing a clean and delightful finish that delivers at a great price. The wine rested in 25% new French oak. Just over 400,000 bottles were produced. (Anthony Mueller)

  4. Susana Balbo Signature Brioso

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59969

    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2022
The 2020 Signature Brioso is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Malbec, 19% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot from Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo and spent 14 months in French barrels. A dark garnet in the glass. The intricate nose offers herbs, ripe fruit and hints of plum, pepper and red currant with a whiff of mint. Creamy and expressive in the mouth with an expansive flow, good grip and juice, this is a classical, intense red with a prolix finish. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
    JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 30, 2022
Racy and layered with black and red fruit, black chocolate, black olives, blueberries and a mineral accent. A tangy, elegant and juicy palate, rounded by dusty tannins that melt into the fruit. Long and refined. 52% cabernet sauvignon, 23% malbec, 19% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot. Drink or hold.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The nose of the 2020 Brioso transports me directly to Agrelo and to a warmer year when tasting it next to other wines from cooler vintages in the Valle de Uco. It’s therefore more classical, with the floral Luján de Cuyo aromas of violets and herbs from the varieties—52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Malbec, 19% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. It achieved 14.5% alcohol and matured in new barriques for 15 months, which lent it abundant tannins and some oak aromas and flavors that are going to require some more time in bottle to be melted. 44,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)
    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2023
All grapes for this blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Malbec, 19% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot were sourced from Susana Balbo’s estate in Agrelo. It’s lively with elegant acidity and plush tannins. Aromas of cherry, raspberry, licorice and rosemary rise from the glass. This wine has a core of redfruit flavors wrapped in light notes of green bell pepper and coffee. (Jesica Vargas)

  5. Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#56962

    VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
Balsam herbs, cocoa and sweet white smoke give way to crushed black cherry and plum as the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is elegance personified, silky, deep and round, yet delivering a core of saline-minerality that creates a savory sensation—umami, in a way—with masses of ripe red fruits and confectionary spices to contrast. The tannins are sweet and round, presenting a chiseled structure; yet it’s not forceful. This tapers off with a tart twang of sour wild berries under an air of lavender and violets. Wow; there is so much concentration and depth here, but also balance. In fact, there’s hardly a sign of this being from a difficult vintage. While I expect it will have a shorter life than an Uccelliera Brunello from a classic year, the 2017 should not be missed. (Eric Guido)
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Feb 2022
The Uccelliera 2017 Brunello di Montalcino does a great job showcasing that extra power and brawn of the vintage and the richer textural structure of the southern side of the appellation. The bouquet is up front and beautifully measured with lots of red and purple fruit definition followed by spice, tar and earthiness. What sets this wine apart in this hot and dry vintage is the mouthfeel. It delivers fiber, flesh and soft tannins. The alcohol is a bit much at 15% in this production of 28,666 bottles. (Monica Larner)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
A solid 2017, but there’s tangy freshness to this, and relatively fine tannins that frame the wine nicely. Plenty of ripe fruit. Some fresh mushroom, too. Drink after 2023.
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022
Cherry and plum fruit flavors are allied to mint, camphor and spice flavors in this dense, powerful red, which is lively and resonates on the finish with echoes of fruit, herbs and spices. Best from 2025 through 2042. 2,388 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#54721

    RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020
From 80- to 90+-year-old vines in the original plot below the sundial, the 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is very precise and fresh on the flinty, slatey and crisp fruit bouquet. Juicy-piquant and sweet on the palate, this is a tight and crispy, very intense yet still sulfuric Spätlese from a really great terroir. The fruit is still fresh and precise and was picked together with the dry GG selection, which is picked from the inner part with a higher acidity, whereas the Spätlese is from the outside berries that have more ripeness. The 2019 should be aged for at least 10 years. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The white 2021 Principia Mathematica was produced with Xarel.lo from a 2.8-hectare vineyard planted 55 years ago and wants to show the variety and zone with no makeup. This is only 12.3% alcohol and comes through as fresh, sharp and floral, with citrus notes; it’s very drinkable and reflects a cool vintage with freshness like no vintage I remember. 2017 / 750 ml. | Item#59837

    JS9898 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, November 30, 2020
This shows really beautiful purity of fruit with polish and sophistication. The currant and cassis aromas are so enticing and really reflect the name of the wine. Medium to full body. Extremely fine tannins. Shows a level of freshness and agility that caresses the palate. Delicate and beautiful. Mostly Howell Mountain. Drink or hold.
    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/31/2020
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is brilliant, with a ripe, powerful style that’s going to age gracefully. Deep blackcurrants, dark chocolate, scorched earth, and graphite notes all emerge from this concentrated, powerful Cabernet that has ripe tannins, a big, rich mid-palate, and a great finish. It’s going to benefit from 3–5 years of bottle age and keep for upwards of two decades with no issues. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2021
Thick and concentrated in dense layers of cedar, pencil shaving and currant, this reserve-worthy wine is substantial in body wight and power, with considerable oak impact, as it was aged 20 months in 80% new French oak. Still, it shows remarkable underlying beauty, complexity and structure. It is a blockbuster that will do well in the cellar. Enjoy best from 2027 through 2037. (Virginie Boone)
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th Aug 2020
Composed of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve springs from the glass with notions of red and black currant jelly, baker’s chocolate, menthol and spice cake plus hints of violets, cedar and kirsch in the undercurrent. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals a firm, finely grained texture with tons of freshness backing up the generous fruit, finishing long and perfumed. 9,644 cases were made. Beringer’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is very pretty in 2017. This grand chateau on its hillside surveys a 150-acre vineyard. The top wine from the estate, this is mainly wood aged, giving polish as well as perfumed black-currant fruitiness. With its ripe tannins, the wine will easily age. Drink from 2023. (Roger Voss)

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#55578

    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 22, 2021
Currant, red-tea, chili, chocolate and lemon-zest aromas. Chalk and crushed gravel, too. It’s medium-bodied with tight, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Sleek and tight with crunchy berry, mineral and zesty notes on the finish. Complex. Pretty center palate to this. Extremely polished. Try from 2025.
    JD95+95+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
Emerging from a beautiful, terraced vineyard on the eastern side of Saint-Emilion, the 2018 Château Tour Saint Christophe is based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in 40% new French oak. Its vivid purple color is followed by a great nose of blackcurrants, blueberries, tobacco leaf, chocolate, violets, and chocolate. Hitting the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, it has this wonderful sense of purity and elegance, a touch of chalky minerality, flawless balance, and a great finish. This beautiful, elegant, seamless Saint-Emilion needs 4–5 years of bottle age but will evolve for 20–25 years. You won’t regret having this in the cellar. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Tour Saint Christophe represents a new level of elegance, precision and finesse for this estate in Saint-Émilion’s Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes district. Silky and exceptionally polished, the 2018 oozes class. Moreover, the heavy extraction and strong torrefaction notes that marked previous vintages of the recent past have been replaced by beautifully precise, vibrant fruit. Tour Saint Christophe is one of best values in Saint-Émilion. I haven’t always loved Tour Saint Christoph, but I love the 2018. It’s a fabulous effort from Technical Director Jérôme Aguirre and his team. Don’t miss it.
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Apr 2021
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged for around 18 months in oak barrels, 40% new, the 2018 Tour Saint Christophe weighs in at 14.6% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out of the glass with bold notions of baked black cherries, plum preserves and blueberry pie plus underlying suggestions of Christmas cake, Chinese five spice and dusty soil. The full-bodied palate packs in the black and blue fruit preserves layers, framed by velvety tannins and lively acidity, finishing long and spicy.

  11. Comando G La Bruja de Rozas

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#53522

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Nov 2020
The 2019 La Bruja de Rozas was one of the few 2019s already bottled when I tasted the whole range in November 2020. This is a village Garnacha from Las Rozas de Puerto Real, their first approach to the grape, trying to capture the essence of the fresh fruit and the fluidity of the wine. 2019 is a ripe vintage, and the wine is a little more powerful, juicy and balanced, with rich aromas and flavors. It comes from different plots of old vines ranging from 40 to 65 years of age and planted at some 900 meters in altitude on sandy granite soils in a zone that has plenty of rain, averaging 800 liters per year. Like all of their vineyards, these plots are worked organically and biodynamically. Each vineyard fermented separately in oak vats with indigenous yeasts with a soft maceration. The wine matured in oak vats of different sizes, ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 liters. The 2019 effect seems to be quite mild here; the wine follows the profile of the 2018, despite being a little riper, and it’s still very balanced. There are notes of flowers, basil and a touch of bacon intermixed with the wild berries and herbs. There’s a little more concentration, and the tannins are a little chalkier and more austere. But there is no excess ripeness or anything out of place, and it has acidity and length and finishes dry and mineral. 41,853 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2020.

    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, August 22, 2021
This is very seductive on the nose with ripe strawberry, spice, flowers and hints of cloves. Full-bodied, but very reserved and tight with chewy, polished tannins and a long, long finish. Racy and structured. Try after 2024.
    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th Dec 2021
The caliber of the 2019 Mt. Jefferson Cuvée Pinot Noir, Cristom’s largest-production SKU, is impressive this vintage. Medium ruby-purple, it features savory cranberry sauce, orange peel and tar aromas with tones of dried flowers and spice. The medium-bodied palate offers the pleasing, gently grippy tannins and bright freshness characteristic of Cristom’s generous whole-cluster inclusion, and it finishes with intense, layered fruits and floral accents.
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
Brilliant ruby-red. Spice-accented red and blue fruits, candied rose and baking spices on the fragrant nose. An undercurrent of juicy acidity supports spice-tinged black raspberry, bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors that turn sweeter with air. Shows fine clarity on the persistent, red-fruit-driven finish, which is framed by well-knit, slowly building tannins. 40% whole clusters and 31% new French oak.

The 2020 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese offers a remarkably coolish, very bright, precise and delicate nose of very fine Riesling fruit and flinty slate aromas. Saline, perfectly round and refined on the palate, this is a filigreed but lush and oh-so-delicate and airy, virtually celestial Himmelreich with crystalline, highly delicate acidity.
