If it’s not as complex or rich as the very best Chardonnays California has to offer, it’s not that far behind, and the pricing and availability (6000 cases produced) remain reasonable for a wine of this quality. They are dry-farmed, picked together and co-fermented. It has a deep ruby-purple color and deep, layered aromas of tar, earth, blackcurrant liqueur, cast iron and dried violets. The full-bodied palate bursts with juicy acidity, sparks of Luxardo cherry and a silky, rounded mouthfeel. It finishes very long and perfumed.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2018 Syrah Estate Gibson Block is positively stellar. These old, dry-farmed vines yield a Syrah that is intensely bold and savory. Dark blue/black fruit, tobacco, cedar, licorice, tobacco and dried flowers open with a bit of coaxing. Readers will find a heady, tannic Syrah built for aging. Time in the glass brings out notable finesse, but I would be in no rush here.

Deep, mysterious and resonant, the 2017 has so much to say. Sweet tobacco, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice and earthy notes meld into a core of black cherry and plum fruit. The 2017 has a distinctive savory quality, even though it was made with fully destemmed fruit.RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th Feb 2020 The 2017 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard has a pale to medium ruby-purple color with scents of dried orange peel, cranberry, rose petal, potpourri, wild blackberries, black cherries, oolong tea leaves, tobacco and peppery notes. The light to medium-bodied palate is savory with firm, grainy tannins, good freshness and a spicy finish.
JD100100 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2020 Pure perfection, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello is a sensational effort from this estate that should be snatched up by drinkers and collectors. Based on 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc that was brought up mostly in new American oak, this saturated purple-hued beauty is legendary Monte Bello in the making and has a stunning yet primordial bouquet of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, graphite, chocolate, and chalky minerality. Full-bodied, incredibly powerful, and one of the most concentrated versions of this cuvée ever made (I’ve had most of them), it needs a solid decade of bottle age and will have 50–60 years of overall longevity. Despite the long drinking window, it offers plenty of pleasure even today. I followed this bottle for two days and it showed best right out of the gate, closing down and becoming more brooding and backward with air. It’s an incredible wine that I promise you won’t regret having in your cellar. What sets the palate apart is its purity: though incredibly layered, it offers a kaleidoscopic journey from blackcurrant to tobacco and dried flowers, offering continual sparks of flavor long after the wine has been swallowed. Structurally, it has the firm but ripe tannins and seamless freshness to dictate a very long life in the cellar. This vintage is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. 3,750 cases produced.
