As one of the noble grape varietals and one of the five esteemed grapes of Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon claims the role of the respected elder of the wine family. Cabernet Sauvignon adapts well to different climates and as such is widely planted across the wine-producing world: France, Argentina, Chile, New York, and, of course, California, all produce fantastic expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon.

A full-bodied, dry red, Cabernet is at its best when paired with a steak or roast and also shows well with hearty dishes like stews and chili. With excellent aging potential, Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine you can cellar and enjoy five, ten, even fifteen years in the future. And don't forget: a little-known tip is that Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect pairing for chocolate!

  3. Château Lafon-Rochet, Saint-Estèphe

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56540

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Lafon-Rochet is such a classy wine. Power and finesse meld together in this Saint-Estèphe that is gorgeous, right from the very first taste. Black cherry, herbs, leather, licorice and dried flowers all build in the glass. In 2018, Lafon-Rochet is richer and bolder than it usually is, and yet all the elements are so nicely balanced. I would give it a few years in the cellar to allow some of the baby fat to melt away.
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
The upper Médoc did brilliantly in 2018, and that’s certainly apparent when tasting the 2018 Château Lafon-Rochet. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of ripe black and blue fruits, lead pencil, forest floor, chocolate, and leafy herbs, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, mouth-filling texture, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It doesn’t quite have the precision of the top wines in the appellation, but it’s loaded with charm and character, and I’d certainly be thrilled to drink a bottle. This rich, textured, flavorful Saint-Estèphe will benefit from 4–6 years in the cellar and keep for two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Lafon-Rochet delivers impactful scents of baked blackberries, warm cassis and black cherry compote, with suggestions of chargrill, tar and tobacco leaf, plus a waft of wild mushrooms. The medium to full-bodied palate is laden with black fruit preserves and earthy accents, supported by firm, chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with great length, if a little chewy.

  4. Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#56822

    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
The dazzling 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a stunning blend of nearly all Cabernet Sauvignon with 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged in 70% new French oak for 22 months before bottling, it exudes class on the nose, where tobacco leaf and mocha tones combine with green bell pepper and blackberry compote. The palate is already beautifully evolved, displaying a silky texture, ripe dark fruits and an appealing sense of salinity from the Rocks District fruit, and finishing exceedingly long. This is the elegant side of Doubleback and has some beautiful aging potential.
    RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
Marking the first vintage where they used a full-time vineyard crew, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a generous, juicy frame on the nose with aromas of blackberry, resinous purple flowers and elegant tones. Full-bodied, the mouthfeel is beautifully balanced with impressive weight without being bogged down by a hedonistic alcohol expression. It glides to a gracious and harmonious finish that commands attention. Bravo, this is fantastic juice! (Anthony Mueller)

  8. K Vintners King Coal

    Stoneridge Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56221

    JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah King Coal Stoneridge Vineyard is another beautifully layered, complex wine from the team at K Vintners, based on 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah. It offers lots of classic Cabernet tobacco, cedary herbs, and graphite notes, with the Syrah offering a more plush, sexy, seamless style to the wine. Loaded with red and black fruits, toasted spice, and chocolate, full-bodied, concentrated, yet seamless and incredibly pure, this gorgeously layered blend has enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring yet is going to evolve gracefully for 15–20 years in cold cellars. It’s a gorgeous wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
Made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah, the 2018 King Coal Stoneridge Vineyard is marked with a deep ruby core and magenta rim before aromas of seductive brown baking spices waft from the glass with notions of plum preserves and blackberry skin. Full-bodied and with a bright mineral tension, the palate is focused and precise, offering a balanced and focused structure with succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins before ending with a dusty floral and sweet baking spice finish. The wine spent 22 months in almost 60% new French oak barriques. Just under 10,000 bottles were made. (Anthony Mueller)
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon - Syrah King Coal is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Syrah from the Stoneridge vineyard. The wine opens with scents of thyme-crusted roast lamb, black tea and blackberry cordial and suggestions of freshly tilled soil. The palate is very elegant and well-balanced, with a seamless texture and glorious length. Medium-bodied, dark fruit flavors collide with suggestions of bull’s blood, sagebrush and hints of kumquat. Wait for the exceedingly long finish.

  9. Penley Estate Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58688

    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
An elegant version, with firm earthy notes to the star anise, green cardamom and cigar box spiciness, backed by a touch of Dutch cocoa powder. Reveals spiced plum, cassis and kirsch flavors that are plump and velvety, with a long finish. Drink now through 2030. 7,000 cases imported. (MaryAnn Worobiec)
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
This is a bright, youthful cabernet with aromas of plums, redcurrants, tobacco and earth. Picked early for freshness. Medium-bodied with little oak impact, a red-plum core and a juicy, drinkable feel. Drink now. Screw cap.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
This is a rich, somewhat oak-forward vintage of Phoenix. The plush blackberry, mint and peppery spice is overlain by the vanilla-chocolate barrel influence. Tannins are powerful but fine and spice laden, adding gravitas to an otherwise easy-drinking, tangy Cab with regional and varietal expression. (Christina Pickard)

  12. Château Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#52268

    JS98+98–99 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 4, 2017
This is really back-ended thanks to a powerful and almost endless finish. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with incredible concentration and length. Round and polished tannins. Layered. This unravels bit by bit. Energetic acidity gives it such superb freshness. This is at the 2010/2009 level.
    RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2018
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Lynch Bages comes charging out of the gate with pronounced cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and menthol notions, backed up by scents of garrigue, tilled soil and a waft of tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fantastically concentrated, the generous fruit is superbly framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins with tons of pepper, cinnamon and cloves layers coming through on the finish. Truly, a legendary Lynch Bages!
    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019
This is built for the cellar, with a generous core of kirsch, raspberry paste and plum preserve flavors waiting to unfurl. Will take time, due to the licorice snap, roasted apple wood and sweet tobacco elements draped over the fruit. Should meld with age, as the structure is invigorating in feel, showing both acidity and tannins in lockstep with the fruit. Best from 2025 through 2040.
    WE96+96–98 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
This wine is ripe and opulent, while still elegant. The balance is fine, showing plenty of concentration and a light touch of acidity. Black currant fruit matches the tannins and structure, making this one for the long term.
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
A stellar wine, the 2016 Lynch-Bages is dark and explosive in the glass. Beams of tannin and bright acids give the 2016 its sense of drive and tension. From bottle, the 2016 is quite a bit more powerful than it was from barrel. Dark flavors and potent tannins give the 2016 a distinctly brooding, somber feel. Sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and wild cherry are all laced into the potent, dramatically sweeping finish. Readers should not be in a rush, as the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. Even so, it is super-impressive today.

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#58423

    WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022
With a slight nose of reduction, this wine offers grippy tannin and sizable oak. Blueberry, currant, cedar and sage give it an elegance and classic structure of understated power, finishing in notes of tobacco and clove. Enjoy from 2029–2039. (Virginie Boone)
    JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
Aromas of dark plums, black olives, bark, dried herbs and cloves. Medium-to full-bodied with powdery tannins. Rich and creamy with chocolate and black fruit on the palate. Chewy finish with excellent length. Fresh. Drink from 2023. (James Suckling)
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022
Deep ruby-hued, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has a textbook Cabernet nose of ripe red and black fruits, leafy herbs, tobacco, spicy oak, and loamy earth. Nicely textured on the palate, it shows the supple elegance of the 2019 vintage, has ripe tannins, medium to full body, and outstanding length. It’s a beautifully balanced, classic 2019 to drink any time over the coming 15 to 20 years. The blend is 94% Cabernet, 4% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, aged 17 months in 65% new French oak. There are 20,000 cases produced, which is certainly impressive at this quality level. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
Far Niente’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is based on Oakville fruit (about 40% to 50% of the blend), with smaller contributions from Oak Knoll, Calistoga, St. Helena, Diamond Mountain and Stags Leap. The result offers a charming blend of cherries and cassis, with hints of sage, mint and dried spices. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and smaller amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot, all aged 16 to 17 months in French oak (two-thirds new), it’s medium to full-bodied, with a slightly chunky, corpulent feel on the palate and a long, softly dusty finish. (Joe Czerwinski)
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022
This leads off with singed vanilla, followed quickly by warmed cassis and plum reduction flavors. The toasty finish lets a tobacco streak in amid the fruit. Drink now through 2030. 23,300 cases made. (James Molesworth)

    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2022
Fruit fans will dig this for its open and inviting display of açaí berry, plum sauce and warmed cassis aromas and flavors, all laced with melted black licorice and given a light mocha cloak on the broad, polished finish. A subtle savory tobacco element in the background adds a counterpoint, but this is aimed squarely at the hedonist crowd. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2025. 21,039 cases made. (James Molesworth)
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
A blend of all five Bordeaux varieties, the 2019 Papillon Red Wine is a full-bodied, open-knit effort marked by pronounced notes of cedar, mocha and black cherries. Soft across the mid-palate, it turns crisper on the juicy, mouthwatering finish, but it manages to nicely conceal its considerable alcohol content (labeled at 16.1%). (Joe Czerwinski)
