As one of the noble grape varietals and one of the five esteemed grapes of Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon claims the role of the respected elder of the wine family. Cabernet Sauvignon adapts well to different climates and as such is widely planted across the wine-producing world: France, Argentina, Chile, New York, and, of course, California, all produce fantastic expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon.

A full-bodied, dry red, Cabernet is at its best when paired with a steak or roast and also shows well with hearty dishes like stews and chili. With excellent aging potential, Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine you can cellar and enjoy five, ten, even fifteen years in the future. And don't forget: a little-known tip is that Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect pairing for chocolate!

  1. O’Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60490

    JD98+98+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is an incredible wine, and it flirts with perfection. Full-bodied and concentrated, it has flawless balance and elegance as well as just textbook Howell Mountain notes of blue fruits, cassis, violets, graphite, and background oak. I love its tannins, it has remarkable purity of fruit, and a great, great finish. It has some appeal today yet deserves 4–5 years of bottle age and should have over two decades of longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Notes of dark spices, cocoa and bark with ripe blackberries and plums on offer. Full-bodied with ripe, succulent dark and blue fruit coated with velvety tannins. Plush and lingering with a spicy finish and some earthiness to it. Better from 2025. (James Suckling)

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59315

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Fresh, direct and focused, with red currant and cherry coulis notes that race through, dotted with savory, floral and tobacco accents. Judicious toast lets the fruit play out, and there’s solid energy throughout. Drink now through 2030. 44,700 cases made. (James Molesworth)
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, May 5, 2022
Redcurrant and tile with some clove. Dark stone, too. Medium-bodied with some fresh herbs and dried thyme. Medium, ripe tannins. Fresh, creamy finish. A blend of 93% cabernet sauvignon with petite sirah and cabernet franc. Drink or hold.
    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
This well-balanced, moderately tannic wine offers black fruits, oak spice and a lightly gripping texture, all in good proportions. It’s a pleasurable wine that shows the typical, attractive black cherries, black olives and hints of baking spices. (Jim Gordon)

On the southern slopes of the Entre-deux-Mers, this vineyard surrounds a grand 19th-century chateau. This organic wine offers rich tannins and powerful black fruits. Its structure will soften and the wine will be ready from 2021.

    WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
This wine shows the generous richness of the vintage while restraining it with fine tannins and pure black-currant acidity. The structure and fruits promise long-term aging. Drink this wine from 2027.
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Prieuré-Lichine is a gorgeous, elegant wine. Strong Cabernet aromatics give the 2018 striking savory notes to play off the natural radiance of the year. Plush and sensual, with no hard edges and terrific balance, the 2018 hits all the right notes. Dried herbs, rose petal, cedar, tobacco and mint linger on the finely cut, persistent finish. This is an especially understated wine for the year.
    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
The medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Prieure-Lichine sings of black raspberries, kirsch and fresh red and black currants, followed by hints of powdered cinnamon, lilacs and bouquet garni. The medium-bodied palate is delicately played with bags of freshness and a soft texture framing the red berry and spicy layers, finishing with an herbal lift.

  14. Mount Eden Vineyards Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#57543

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is going to need a number of years to come around. The only question is how many. In 2017, the Mount Eden Cabernet is shockingly opulent. Inky black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and incense are all dialed up in this super-sized Cabernet. Even so, there is plenty of structure lurking beneath. I can’t wait to see how this ages.
    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
A brilliant, youthful, unevolved wine that will give Ridge’s Monte Bello a run for its money, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep ruby/purple hue to go with a wonderful perfume of blackcurrants, blueberries, lead pencil, vanilla bean, exotic flowers, tobacco, and bouquet garni. Needing plenty of air to show at its best, it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate and has a concentrated, powerful style, ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, aged in used French and American oak, it’s going to benefit from 4–6 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have 30–40 years of overall longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2022
This has a zesty set of loganberry, raspberry and sweet bay leaf notes mixed together, along with flashes of violet, mesquite and anise. There’s a good tug of warm gravel running underneath and nice energy throughout. Should mellow nicely with cellaring. Best from 2024 through 2034. 1,285 cases made.
    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021
Balanced aromas of redwood and pine give depth to the asphalt and leather elements on the nose of this bottling. The American oak seems prominent on the dense, leathery palate, where dark and dried fruits play along with sandalwood and mahogany flavors.
    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21
This is a staunch mountain wine that needs a day of air to come out of its shell. It’s all hard edges at first, not so much about fruit, though the fruit is present; not inviting, but it leaves room for you to come inside. As the wine begins to relax, it feels like an old-fashioned cabernet with woodland flavors of mountain fruit and savory wild mushrooms. Powerful in its youthful structure, it needs a decade in the cellar for that structure to evolve.
