Grenache, a spicy wine with versatility, is one of the world’s most widely planted red grape varieties, yet one of the least recognized by many consumers. We're on a mission to change that, since we love Grenache wines and think that you will, too.

Because of the late-ripening nature of Grenache, it is almost exclusively grown in warmer, arid, and Mediterranean-like climates. It's a featured grape in Spain (where it goes by the name "Garnacha") and in France's Southern Rhone wines, and can also be found in Australia, the Italian island of Sardinia (where it is called "Cannonau"), and warmer climate areas in California and Washington state. There are even several outstanding versions of Grenache rosé out there, which shouldn't be ignored.

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60070

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
There’s more finesse in the 2020 Els Pics, which has upfront berry fruit and integrated spice and smoke in the back. It was produced with 60% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena, 5% Merlot and 5% Syrah and matured in oak and concrete. The palate is medium to full-bodied with fine, nice ripe tannins and good balance, combining power and elegance. 2020 was a challenging year of low yields and concentration and it took a lot of work to achieve finesse. 66,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Ruby-red. Superripe aromas of cherry and plum liqueur, complicated by espresso, bitter chocolate, floral oils, exotic baking spices and vanilla. Then amazingly fresh and juicy on the palate, the dark fruit flavors taking a brighter turn and picking up notes of minerals and smoked meat. Finishes sweet and expansive while remaining focused and fresh.

  5. Casa Castillo El Molar

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58190

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2022
The perfect Mediterranean vintage produced an outstanding Garnacha. The 2020 El Molar fermented with 35% full clusters and matured in a combination of 500-liter barrels and 5,000-liter foudres for one year. The wine is very young and tender; it feels more delicate despite having a little more alcohol than the 2019 (it’s 15%) and with a slightly lower pH (3.49). It’s super aromatic, extroverted and expressive, floral, elegant and complex. There is great balance, and the wine feels fresher and less ripe; it’s refreshing and has a core of minerality and super fine tannins with pungent flavors. There is precision, elegance and balance, the three words that define the vintage. All the wines are very good value, but this is a steal. 40,000 bottles were filled in March 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

    JD95+95–97 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Guigasse is my favorite of the trio, at least at this early stage. Full-bodied aromas and flavors of darker berries, violets, peppery herbs, and chocolate all emerge from this beauty, which is perfectly balanced and has a great mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great finish. This is 100% Grenache that was not destemmed and is brought up all in older demi-muids. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022
All Grenache coming from sandy soils in the northern part of the Pignan lieu-dit, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Grand Pin was not destemmed and is still resting in older demi-muids. It has a classic, exotic perfume of ripe strawberries and cherry-like fruit as well as rose petal, baking spices, sappy garrigue, and exotic flowers. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this spicy, complex, nuanced 2020 has ripe tannins, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    JD93+93–95 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
Looking at the 2019s, all of which are still aging in barrel, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Sablons can be thought of as the entry level Grenache. Destemmed and aged in older barrels, this round, mouth-filling, medium to full-bodied Grenache offers lots of red and black fruits as well as some meaty, spicy nuances. It will have plenty of up-front appeal. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
The smaller production 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Puy Rolland is all Grenache from sandy soils raised in foudre. It’s slightly lighter hued compared to the other cuvées and offers a classic perfume of wild strawberries, iodine, violets, and Provençal spice. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this is Grenache at its most feminine and elegant, with light tannins, a seamless, elegant texture, and outstanding length. It’s going to benefit from just 2–3 years of bottle age but should evolve for 15 years on its balance, harmony, and purity. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  10. Château de Nalys Grand Vin Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57144

    WE9797 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2021
The flagship wine of de Nalys sourced from the famed La Crau vineyard, this powerful, complex red highlights Grenache augmented by Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise and Vacarèse. Matured partially in oak, it offers black-plum flavors muted by shades of earth, sun-scorched garrigue and a lingering vein of salty minerality. While soft in tannin, the wine needs time to tease out its smoky, stony nuances. Drink 2028–2040.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2021
A bright savory note leads off this red, followed quickly by sanguine and bay leaf accents, all melding nicely with the core of steeped blackberry, raspberry and plum fruit flavors as they move through the rich, licorice root–tinged finish. Best from 2022 through 2035. 1,000 cases imported.
    RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
The best offering from this property I can remember, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Grand Vin leads with knockout aromas of garrigue, raspberries and stone fruit. It’s full-bodied, loaded with explosive levels of fruit that buffer the silky tannins, and includes a vivid sense of tension that gives the finish drive and length.
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
Deep ruby. Red and blue fruit, garrigue, pungent floral and exotic spice aromas show fine definition and mineral lift. Juicy black raspberry, boysenberry and candied lavender flavors deepen through the back half, with no loss of energy. Closes with emphatic, spicy thrust on the penetrating finish, which features even tannins and resonating floral and blue fruit notes.

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#49774

    RP95+95–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2018
The 2017 Gigondas le Poste is just super: super purple, super concentrated and super tannic. Really intense, it’s not a wine for the shy, steamrollering along with dark fruit and powerful notes of licorice on the lengthy finish.
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2020
Deep lurid ruby. Highly fragrant suggestions of ripe red berries, cherry preserves, exotic spices and candied flowers are accompanied by a smoky mineral element that builds steadily with air. Smooth and seamless on the palate, offering intense black raspberry, cherry cola, spicecake and candied lavender flavors that convey a suave mix of power and delicacy. Closes smooth, gently tannic and impressively long, leaving sappy red fruit and floral pastille notes behind.
    JD94+94–96+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - September 26, 2018
More full-bodied, with incredible purity in its aromatics and fruit, the 2017 Gigondas Le Poste is another 100% Grenache cuvée that’s from a slightly higher elevation, terraced vineyard near the domaine. As with all the cuvées here, it’s not destemmed and is brought up mostly in used barrels. Offering lots of black currants, spice box, graphite, and licorice, it builds beautifully on the palate, has great concentration and intensity, and a blockbuster finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  12. Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#60614

    VN92+92–94 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
Deep magenta. High-toned cherry and blackberry aromas show very good clarity with black pepper and smoky mineral accents. Shows firm tension and a spicy cut to its gently sweet red and dark berry, bitter chocolate and succulent herb flavors. Youthfully gripping tannins lend framework to a long, smoky finish that echoes the spice and floral notes. This is textbook Gigondas, raised in a combination of one-third concrete tanks and two-thirds large oak barrels, 20% of those new. (Josh Raynolds)
    JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/16/2023
Leading off the 2021 barrel samples, the 2021 Gigondas is a juicy, elegant, medium-bodied beauty with lots of red and black fruits, some floral and violet notes, fine tannins, and kiss of salinity on the finish. It’s clearly an outstanding wine in the making and a great effort in this more challenging vintage. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  13. Château de Vaudieu Amiral G. Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#45901

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2017
Features a solid core of lightly steeped kirsch, black cherry and raspberry fruit, backed by singed juniper and apple wood notes that lend aromatic and textural contrast. Tobacco, shiso leaf and blood orange details score the finish, giving this a mouthwatering profile. Best from 2020 through 2040. 50 cases imported.
    RP95+95–97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Amiral G. comes from a single parcel and is a huge wine that I suspect will be in the top one to two wines of the vintage. Giving up awesome notes of Provençal garrigue, strawberry jam, kirsch, incense and peppered meats, it has full-bodied richness, a broad, expansive feel on the palate and sweet tannin. I don’t think it has the density and structure of the 2010 (which is a monumental wine!), but this is a tour de force in Grenache that Châteauneuf du Pape lovers shouldn’t miss!
    VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
Bright magenta. Powerful, mineral-laced raspberry, cherry and incense aromas pick up exotic suggestions of Asian spices and blood orange with air. Palate-staining red fruit liqueur and floral pastille flavors deepen and spread out with air while retaining vivacity and focus. Smoothly blends power and finesse; a zesty mineral quality adds cut to the strikingly long, floral-driven finish.

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#45902

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2017
Very silky in feel, with beguiling rooibos tea, bergamot and blood orange accents sitting atop the large core of cassis and raspberry pâte de fruit. Everything is in lockstep through the finish, where buried minerality adds the final touch. Best from 2020 through 2035. 50 cases imported.
    RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
100% Grenache that’s aged all in demi-muids, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape L’Avenue is similar to the Amiral G., yet is slightly more tight, focused and concentrated. Coming from a tiny strip of vines located right next to Rayas, it offers sensational notes of strawberry jam, kirsch, mulled blackberries, graphite and exotic spices to go with full-bodied richness and depth, as well as fine, sweet tannin. Give bottles 2–3 years of cellaring, count yourself lucky, and drink them over the following 15 years or more.
    VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
Lurid ruby. Ripe cherry and dark berries on the explosively perfumed nose, complicated by hints of smoky minerals, incense and potpourri. Palate-staining, spice-laced cherry and black raspberry flavors show impressive depth and clarity, and a spine of juicy acidity provides lift and focus. Finishes extremely long and sweet, delivering solid thrust, a hint of candied flowers and suave, harmonious tannins.

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#52347

    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - August 16, 2019
As to the reds, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape is a terrific classic cuvée that has loads of sweet red and blue fruits, crushed pepper, violets, and sappy garrigue aromas and flavors. A blend of 45% each of Grenache and Mourvèdre, with the balance Syrah, it’s medium-bodied, has a fresh, lively texture, terrific balance, and a good finish. It has an old-school vibe, terrific purity, and is well worth seeking out. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
Fortia’s 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 45% each Grenache and Mourvèdre, plus 10% Syrah. Full-bodied and harmonious, it shows considerably more richness and character than the very good 2016, while remaining supple and easy to drink. Cherry fruit dominates, picking up hints of dried spices on the silky finish. It should drink well for a decade.
