Grenache, a spicy wine with versatility, is one of the world’s most widely planted red grape varieties, yet one of the least recognized by many consumers. We're on a mission to change that, since we love Grenache wines and think that you will, too.

Because of the late-ripening nature of Grenache, it is almost exclusively grown in warmer, arid, and Mediterranean-like climates. It's a featured grape in Spain (where it goes by the name "Garnacha") and in France's Southern Rhone wines, and can also be found in Australia, the Italian island of Sardinia (where it is called "Cannonau"), and warmer climate areas in California and Washington state. There are even several outstanding versions of Grenache rosé out there, which shouldn't be ignored.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#59008

    JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2022
I’m always amazed at the quality this estate gets in the Côtes du Rhône, especially at the quantities produced. Their 2018 Côtes Du Rhône is well worth seeking out and has a medium-bodied, round, silky style as well as textbook peppery herbs, violets, bouquet garni, and both red and black fruits. It shows the supple, charming, forward style of the vintage and is ideal for drinking over the coming 4–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP89+89–91 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
Looking more complex and complete than the 2017 at this point, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone still has a year or so of élevage ahead of it. It has a slightly herbal, briary note, dark berry fruit and hints of mocha on the full-bodied palate. Round and fleshy, it finishes smooth and velvety. (Joe Czerwinski)
    SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2022
Dusty-edged, with understated cherry and red currant fruit flavors lined liberally with sandalwood and balsam wood notes. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now. 45,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#57999

    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/8/2021
A year-in, year-out smoking value, the 2020 Côtes du Rhône Les Becs Fins offers a vivid purple hue as well as a great, classic Côtes du Rhône nose of peppery black cherry and framboise fruits, garrigue, spice box, licorice, and even a hint of violets. Soft, medium-bodied, fruit-driven, yet wonderfully pure and far from a simple red, it’s going to put a smile on your face over the coming 3–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  5. Paul Lato Space Cadet

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58451

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022
The 2020 Space Cadet is the star in this range from Paul Lato. Silky and aromatic, the 2020 is hauntingly beautiful from the get-go. Inky red/purplish fruit, sage, cedar, tobacco, incense and dried flowers are some of the many notes that race across the palate. All the elements are so well balanced. Space Cadet is mostly Syrah and some Grenache, but the Grenache really seems to drive the profile today. (Antonio Galloni)
    JD95+95+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2022
A 65/35 split of Syrah and Grenache from the Bien Nacido and Larner vineyards, the 2020 Space Cadet reveals an almost opaque ruby/purple hue to go with a rocking nose of red, blue, and black fruits as well as ground pepper, violets, and some gamey, meaty nuances. It’s full-bodied on the palate, has a wealth of fruit, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to benefit from a year or two in the cellar and drink brilliantly over the following decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022
The 2020 Space Cadet comes from 20- to 30-year-old vines at Bien Nacido and Larner vineyards and is a blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache. It was matured in 57% new French oak and concrete eggs for 22 months. Medium ruby-purple, it’s reticent then floral, unfolding to violet, powdered sugar, black raspberries and cherries. The full-bodied palate is chalky with powerful, ripe fruit, rounded acidity and a long finish with spicy accents. 144 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)

    JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/25/2022
A great Côtes Du Rhône readers should seek out, the 2020 La Bouveau is up-front, balanced, and ready to go, with the purity and freshness of the vintage as well as lots of Southern Rhône character in its garrigue, pepper, strawberry, and black raspberry aromas and flavors. Drink it over the coming 3–4 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59075

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Jan 2023
The best version of this cuvée I can recall tasting, the 2020 Pic Saint Loup Coste d’Aleyrac is a softer, lusher, more generous wine than past (or succeeding) vintages, loaded with blackberry and black cherry fruit. Full, rich, velvety and long, it’s a terrific value. As usual, it’s an unoaked blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Carignan. (Joe Czerwinski)

    JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/16/2023
Moving to the 2020s from bottle, the 2020 Ventoux Quintessence is beauty revealing assorted blackberry and black raspberry-like fruits, some obvious chalky minerality, medium to full body, and a complex bouquet of violets, flowers, and spice. I love its purity, and it’s going to age for 10–15 years in cold cellars. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  11. Domaine La Barroche Fiancée Châteauneuf du Pape

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#56079

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021
This delivers a big burst of juicy raspberry and boysenberry purée flavors, lined with dark licorice and pastis notes while roasted applewood and fruitcake fill in through the juicy, yet focused finish. Excellent underlying energy throughout, with a long bolt of graphite giving it all support. Best from 2024 through 2038. 250 cases made, 135 cases imported.
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
The Syrah-heavy 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Fiancée (55% Grenache and 45% Syrah) was brought up 50% in foudre and the rest in demi-muids. It’s another dense, rich 2019 offering building tannins and structure as well as a beautiful nose of red and blue fruits supported by lots of peppery, meaty, spicy nuances. This rich, concentrated effort stays light and balanced, with good freshness and remarkable purity. I’m generally not a fan of the Syrah-heavy releases from the Southern Rhône, but this will make a believer out of anyone. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  12. Marietta Christo

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#58373

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah and Viognier, the 2019 Christo has a deep ruby-purple color and alluring scents of blueberry jam and cassis with accents of loamy earth, violet, coffee beans and iron. The full-bodied palate is powerful yet silky, with seamless acidity and gobs of pure violet perfume on the long, layered finish. It’s easy to drink now but offers a decade or more of cellaring potential. (Erin Brooks)

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59785

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2022
Medium ruby in color, the 2021 Patelin de Tablas is a blend of 43% Syrah, 28% Grenache, 23% Mourvèdre and 6% Counoise. It has inviting aromas of blood orange, raspberry and pomegranate with touches of tar and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and fresh with a concentrated core of crunchy fruit and a long, floral finish. 3,900 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - May 2023
A wildly perfumed bouquet of earthy rose, white pepper and dried strawberries makes the 2021 Patelin de Tablas a total pleasure on the nose. Silky-smooth yet full of energy, this engulfs the palate in a pure blend of red fruits and spices, as sour citrus hints add contrast. It finishes pleasantly chewy, long and full of zesty tension. Residual acids keep the mouth watering for more. In 2021, the Patelin de Tablas has an elevated amount of Mourvèdre, at 33%, and a bit less Grenache, giving this a wonderfully spicy character. Very dry aromas of dried blood sausage, muddled plum and cracked pepper make for an extremely savory nose on this bottling. The cracked pepper spice sails through the sip, where dried meat and very dark purple-fruit flavors also arise. (Matt Kettmann)
