Grenache, a spicy wine with versatility, is one of the world’s most widely planted red grape varieties, yet one of the least recognized by many consumers. We're on a mission to change that, since we love Grenache wines and think that you will, too.
Because of the late-ripening nature of Grenache, it is almost exclusively grown in warmer, arid, and Mediterranean-like climates. It's a featured grape in Spain (where it goes by the name "Garnacha") and in France's Southern Rhone wines, and can also be found in Australia, the Italian island of Sardinia (where it is called "Cannonau"), and warmer climate areas in California and Washington state. There are even several outstanding versions of Grenache rosé out there, which shouldn't be ignored.

JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - August 28, 2018 Bottled in March, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (80% Grenache) was brought up in a mix of concrete (mostly) and foudre. It gives up sensational notes of kirsch liqueur, white flowers, graphite, candle wax, and spice. This rich, full-bodied, yet seamless Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a powerful, balanced style that’s going to keep for 15–20 years. It’s a gorgeous wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2017 The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape weighs in at 15.5% alcohol by volume yet doesn’t show any heat. Blueberries, spice, cherries and stone fruit come in full-bodied, velvety waves and finish rich and long. This looks to be a stellar effort while the fruit lasts.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2018 Brilliant red. Highly perfumed red fruit liqueur, potpourri and Moroccan spice scents show impressive vivacity and focus. Sappy, alluringly sweet and precise, offering palate-staining raspberry and floral pastille flavors and a hint of spicecake. Closes very long and smooth, displaying excellent focus, even tannins and emphatic, floral-tinged persistence.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Apr 2018 A blend of 63% Grenache, 23% Carignan and 14% Syrah aged partially in demi-muids, the 2016 Maury Sec Serge & Nicolas (named after the estate manager and the winemaker) is a dark, brooding, representation of ripe fruit and crushed stone. Some brighter raspberry notes emerge with air, and while there’s ample weight and richness, the wine is by no means heavy or overly weighty. It’s a well-balanced but hearty red at a terrific price.
JD96+96–99 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 19, 2017 Even better (although in a very different style), the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes comes all from very old Grenache vines planted all in sandy soils. This behemoth offers awesome notes of blueberries, plums, violets and spring flowers, with hints of sandy/loamy/soil notes developing with time in the glass. Full-bodied, fat, unctuous and hedonistic, it stays balanced lively and fresh on the palate, with no weight. Sign me up. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2018 Limpid ruby-red. Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of cherry liqueur, Chambord and candied flowers, along with a subtle floral quality that gains strength with air. Energetic red berry and bitter cherry flavors are complemented by mocha and licorice flourishes that take a sweeter turn on the back half. Youthful tannins lend grip to a long, focused finish that strongly echoes the cherry and floral notes.SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2018 Ripe, but bright and fresh, with a lively mix of raspberry, red currant and bitter plum coulis flavors streaming in, pulling light tea, singed sandalwood and anise notes along. Drink now through 2035. 600 cases made.RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2017 I didn’t taste the straight Chateauneuf du Pape from 2016, but the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes certainly looked special out of a one-year-old demi-muid. It’s a big, plush, dark-fruited wine, with some chocolate notes and a velvety feel.

It’s almost too good and certainly not far behind the Pure cuvée. A blend of 62% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre, and the rest Cinsault, Syrah, Vaccarèse, and Clairette Rose, brought up in foudre and demi-muid, it sports a head-turning bouquet of kirsch liqueur, blackberries, crushed herbs, and pepper. With a big mid-palate, full body, ripe tannins, and a rocking finish, it’s a no-brainer purchase that will keep for two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2018 A terrific entry-level offering, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Signature is a blend of 62% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre, 12% Syrah, 6% Cinsault and 2% other varieties. It’s full-bodied and intense but silky and almost weightless, delivering wonderful, complex notes of cherries, raspberries and an array of dried spices and herbs. With 2,500 cases produced, it should be fairly widely available and reasonably priced.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Dec 2018 Named after the Garnacha in the village of Fitero where the grapes are sourced, the 2016 Corral de los Altos fermented in 5,000-liter stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500-liter barrels for nine months. This is fresher than the 2015, but not as fresh as Malayeto, as this vineyard tends to have higher ripeness but really balanced and with tasty flavors. Quite impressive, it has finesse and juicy fruit. This is a large vineyard and they have purchased new plots in 2018, so they could produce more, or even select from the best parts of the vineyard for this single-vineyard bottling. 7,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2018.
