  1. Wine and Films for Thanksgiving (Pt. 3): An Eclectic Mix

    Thanksgiving Wine and Film Pairings

Here is my list of some favorite wines for Thanksgiving. Some of these are typical choices, while others may seem out in left field. All are interesting and worth your time. With a couple of exceptions, these wines will fall under $15.00 a bottle.

    WHITES

    1. Les Lys 2014 Vouvray - There are apricot, almond and slight honey notes complemented by a fair amount of acidity, yet this wine still is very creamy and has a round finish. It will be a crowd pleaser at Thanksgiving.
    2. Dom Lafage 2014 Centenaire Cotes du Roussane - A light straw colored blend of Grenache Blanc and Roussane, this wine is crisp and has peach and green apple notes with good minerality.
    3. Ressia 2014 Evien Bianco - This wine is very aromatic with intense flavors of peach, apricot, orange blossom, lychee (somewhat reminiscent of a Vouvray) and a hint of anise in the finish.
    4. Willm 2013 Gewurtztraminer - a bit creamy and juicy, with smoke, apple, melon, lime, and ginger flavors.

Both the 2014 MAN Free Run Chenin Blanc and the 2014 Padstal Chardonnay are solid wines to welcome in springtime sipping.

If you fall into the second category or are making a meal for your mom, think about wine. Don’t let the weather ruin your plans. If you were planning on a white wine because May is usually warmer, fear not. We have a perfect wine for warm or cool weather.

  4. Great Wines for Under $10: Vouvray

Normally, I would probably pair this meal with a semi-dry Riesling to compliment the hot spice and sweetness of the dish. Then I remembered a wine I recently tasted, a Rosnay 2009 Vouvray which is made from the Chenin Blanc grape. It is one of the best value wines I’ve ever sampled. This wine made a startling impression on me as a casual sipper, but I was curious how it would pair with certain foods.

The wine paired beautifully with the mahi-mahi. The floral, lemon-peach nose carries through as you taste the wine and the sip brings a subtle taste of honey as well. The wine did not overpower the fish and actually helped to tame some
