SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2022 Snappy and lively, with tutti-frutti pineapple and pear flavors that finish with toasty oak accents. Drink now. 805,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2019 Medium ruby-red. Aromas of blackcurrant, dark raspberry, espresso, bitter chocolate and graphite. Silky and plush but also vinous on entry, then densely packed, seamless and deep in the middle, with savory red and blacker fruit flavors complicated by subtle brown spices and minerals. Conveys excellent inner-mouth peppery lift and vinosity without coming across as green. This wine struck me as quite similar to its 2015 predecessor, suggesting that owner/winemaker Greg Harrington was especially successful in avoiding obvious signs of the very hot 2015 growing season. This savory, classically dry, energetic Cabernet Sauvignon finishes with firm, suave tannins and slowly mounting persistence.
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021 The 2018 Syrah The Beautiful Powerline Vineyard comes from a vineyard outside of Walla Walla, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. It was not destemmed and was brought up in neutral, larger barrels. An exotic nose of ripe blue and black fruits, lavender, sappy flowers, and herbes de Provence-like nuances give way to a medium to full-bodied, richly textured, structured wine with a mouth-filling, layered, meaty style that builds nicely with time in the glass. There’s always a sappy, almost herbal edge to this beauty, and it ages beautifully. Feel free to open bottles any time over the coming 15–20 years. It would certainly be hard to pick out in a lineup of top Northern Rhône Syrahs. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022 A potent red, deeply structured yet dynamic, with blackberry, crushed stone, cured meat and black olive accents that gather richness and polish toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2032. 1,128 cases made.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022 The 2018 Syrah The Beautiful is clone 470 with a touch of Viognier co-fermented, aged in 30% new French oak puncheons before bottling. The Viognier brings beautiful honeysuckle tones alongside crème de violette and suggestions of baking spices. The salinity here is outstanding as blackberry compote, black tea and exotic spices mingle with the seamless texture and gorgeous length. Enjoy this outstanding bottling over the next eight-plus years.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2016 Reminding me of a Northern Rhone Syrah from the Le Meal lieu-dit on Hermitage Hill, the 2013 Syrah The Hidden Northridge Vineyard comes entirely from the Northridge Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, was fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in mostly neutral oak. It offers thrilling notes of black raspberries, toasted bread, caramelized meats and licorice in a full-bodied, ultra-pure, supple, incredibly sexy style. Possessing building, fine tannin, it needs a lengthy decant if drinking anytime soon, but this utterly seamless, perfectly balanced beauty will offer upward of two decades of overall longevity.WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 2/1/2017 Aromas of pomegranate, black fruit, herb and barrel spice lead to rich seamless palate-coating dark-fruit flavors. It’s hedonistic but retains a sense of balance along with an unabashed deliciousness.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2016 Broad, generous and opulent, with raspberry, black cherry and rhubarb flavors that maintain momentum into a long and supple finish, picking up hints of dill and black tea. Best from 2018 through 2023. 760 cases made.
WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2022 This wine is still in its shell, starting out reduced before displaying notes of blackberry, black currant, orange twist, smoke and spice. Slightly sweet dark fruit flavors follow.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023 Soft and juicy, with easygoing cherry and toasty spice flavors that finish with a crisp snap. Drink now through 2027. 12,908 cases made. (Tim Fish)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2022 A zesty, toasty red, with medium-bodied currant and black cherry flavors accented by espresso and spices. Ends with snappy tannins. Drink now through 2028. 145,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2022 Aromas of rose petal, dried herb, chocolate and cherry lead to pleasing dark-fruit and chocolate flavors that paint around the edges, considerably lighter in the middle. What’s there impresses and delivers a lot of value. (Sean P. Sullivan)
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th May 2023 The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve bursts with an impressive nose and was made with the addition of 10% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. There are healthy and seductive aromas on the nose along with succulent black plum, spiced cherry compote and blackberry skin before elegant brown baking spices lift out of the glass with resinous red and purple flowers. Full-bodied, big and juicy, with plenty of oak, the palate offers a fine mineral tension, harmoniously balanced fine-grained tannins and succulent acidity. The wine continues to somersault and uncoil across the bold, long-lingering and generous finish that leaves behind a firm tannic edge. Give this at least two more years in the bottle before opening, but I suspect it will be better with three. Bravo! (Anthony Mueller)JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, June 4, 2023 Notes of plums and blueberries with violets, lilac and dark chocolate. Juicy and fruit-forward with crunchy tannins and a vivid, blue-fruited finish. Hints of spices and cocoa to close. Drink now. (James Suckling)
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, April 22, 2022 Ripe currants, plums and suede on the nose. Full-bodied with chewy, fruit soaked tannins. The palate is driven by fresh acidity that carries the dark fruit through the long, satisfying finish. Rich yet toned and focused.Tobacco and melted chocolate. Intense. 89% cabernet sauvignon, 8% petit verdot and 3% cabernet franc. Best after 2026.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022 Broad-shouldered and intense in structure, with handsome blackberry, black tea, clove and other spices. Builds tension toward firm tannins. Built for the cellar. Best from 2023 through 2030. 2,941 cases made.
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/15/2020 Coming from the Oldfield and Boushey Vineyards (basically the same vineyard), the 2017 Syrah Motor City Kitty Oldfield-Boushey Vineyard is slightly darker colored and, as with all the Rhones here, wasn’t destemmed and was brought up in mostly neutral puncheons. Blackberries, smoked earth, game, chocolate, and chalky minerality all emerge from this beauty, and it’s a powerful, full-bodied, concentrated effort that will evolve positively for 2–4 years and keep for a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, June 1, 2020 This is deep and flavorful with spice, meat, wet earth and a light, greenish note. It’s medium-to full-bodied, lively and flavor-focused. Drink now.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023 A dynamic Cabernet that shows polish and tension, along with expressive blackberry, mocha, espresso and dusky spices that drive toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2032. 473 cases made. (Tim Fish)VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon grumbles up from the glass with a darkly alluring mix of black currants, crushed ashen stone and hints of mocha. This soothes with silken waves of mineral-tinged dark red fruit and sweet spice as grippy tannins slowly mount toward the close. While structured and leaving the palate saturated in primary concentration, the 2019 maintains a wonderfully energetic feel as nuances of dried black cherry and tobacco slowly fade. Give this a few years of cellaring to allow its oak to integrate and then drink heartily over the next decade. (Eric Guido)
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018 The 2015 Champoux Vineyard is stunning, busting from the glass with a precocious bouquet of ripe cherries, minty blackberries, violets and anise. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, layered and almost voluptuous, with velvety, melting tannins that frame a succulent core of beautifully delineated fruit. The finish is long and fragrant. Infinitely seductive and exquisitely balanced, I struggle to remember an Andrew Will Champoux that was quite this delicious straight out of the gates, yet the wine clearly has the potential to evolve for two decades. The 2015 is a blend of 51% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - April 5, 2018 The 2015 Champoux is a beauty. Concentrated, rich, full-bodied and layered, it offers a rocking nose of blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil, iodine, and salty minerality. Ripe, rounded, and opulent, yet with good freshness and purity, it needs 3–4 years of bottle age and will keep for two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
