The fruit quality is crisp and tonic, yet the wine supports mid-weight concentration and a more elaborate style. This vintage from Il Marroneto has two personalities. On the one hand, you get a wine that is packed with beautiful primary fruit but that is slightly more immediate; on the other, you get a wine that promises good aging thanks to its freshness and the silky tannins that melt onto the palate. It is young but also aged. It is racy but also complex. Fruit comes from the vineyard under the Madonna delle Grazie chapel, and the wine ages in special oak casks for 41 months. This is a production of 8,500 bottles. (Monica Larner)VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie takes its time opening in the glass, complex and darkly alluring with its musky red currants and savory spices, yet with swirling pretty rose tones. A hint of sweet smoke comes forward to add lovely contrast. Its textures are like liquid velvet, with a chalky mineral staining that comes on quickly, which is perfectly balanced by a massive wave of dark red berries; yet through it all, balance is expertly maintained by streamlined acidity that creates a sense of total inner harmony. The 2018 leaves a structured sensation, yet its tannins are silky and fine, coupled with a violet pastille and lavender resonance that I find wildly attractive. Of note, I’ve tasted this wine over the last two years and followed this recent bottle over the course of 48 hours; at which point it never faltered and only increased in depth and complexity. Il Marroneto’s 2018 Madonna delle Grazie is unquestionably one of the top three wines of the vintage. My hat is off to Alessandro Mori, and his team. (Eric Guido)

The 2012 Carla 6 is a spectacular expression of 100% Sangiovese with bursting berry and cherry aromas that give the wine an immense sense of buoyancy and vertical lift. Spice, leather, tobacco, cola, and licorice flood in at the rear and add to the wine’s wide aromatic foundation. The tannins are silky smooth and the wine glides clear over the palate in seamless fashion. One third of the wine is aged in new oak and the rest sees six months of cement. It’s an absolute beauty.VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2015 The 2012 Carla VI, 100% Sangiovese, shows just how rich and concentrated Sangiovese can be in this part of Chianti Classico. Plum, red cherry, cinnamon and new leather flesh out in a sumptuous, large-scaled wine built on power and intensity. There is good varietal definition in the glass, but all the flavors are amped up.

VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Diecianni pulls me close with a hauntingly dark and spicy bouquet, showing red currants complicated by cardamom, ground ginger, exotic curries and dusty rose petals. This is a purely elegant style, seamless and enveloping, with balanced acidity adding lift to a dense wave of ripe red fruits, as pretty inner florals form toward the close. The tannins remain quite firm, yet in harmony with the residual concentration that lingers, as a salty flourish punctuates the wine well. It will be years before the 2013 Diecianni reaches full maturity, yet it will be worth the wait. (Eric Guido)
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Mar 2023 Le Potazzine delivers solid results thanks to the impressive positioning of its vines that straddle the crown of a high-elevation plain. The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows bright fruit with cherry and redcurrant, and that makes all the difference. Careful oak aging has enhanced the aromas. I also feel the effects of careful cellar aging in terms of mouthfeel, especially the structure and tannins. The wine is tightly stitched together with a point of sourness on the close. Give it a few more years to soften. Some 15,500 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino takes some coaxing to come together in the glass, dusty yet floral, with crushed ashen stones and a core of plum followed by savory herbs and black currant beneath it all. This is elegance personified, casting velvety textural waves of ripe red and blue berries across the palate, all lifted by brisk acidity, and with a flourish of lavender that lights up the senses. A coating of fine tannins lingers, yet the mouth is left watering for more, as nuances of licorice and blackberry slowly fade. The 2018 is a classy rendition of the vintage, elevated by a slightly higher declassification of juice that went into the Rosso di Montalcino. I’d give it another two to three years of cellaring to come fully together. (Eric Guido)

There are depths of tart red berries, spices and minerals on the palate, drenching the senses in primary concentration, yet zesty acids maintain notable balance. A coating of fine tannins lingers through the long, structured finale, along with echoes of violet, blueberry skins and licorice. There is simply so much going on in this glass, but it has the balance to improve through medium-term cellaring.RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Feb 2022 The Lisini 2017 Brunello di Montalcino (with 30,000 bottles made) has some of the baked blackberry aromas and cherry liqueur that are characteristics of this dry and hot growing season. The wine opens to a darkly saturated appearance, and it follows up with tarry smoke, licorice root, crushed stone and potting soil. The wine’s personality reflects autumnal flavors of forest floor and balsam herb.
