Sangiovese, is one Italy's two most important wine grapes (with Nebbiolo being the other) and is the most-planted grape in Italy. The Sangiovese grape is not only used to make Italy's world-famous Chiantis, but it's also the base for the cherished Super Tuscan wines, and the unbelievable wines of Brunello de Montalcino.
Not surprisingly, Sangiovese wine pairs wonderfully with Italian foods like pasta with red sauce, as well as with rare steaks, and rich chicken and/or mushroom dishes. Of course, it's also wonderful by itself!

VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with dusty rose, strawberries and hints of black tea. It’s soft in feel, with a twang of tangerine that gives way to tart cherries and inner cinnamon and clove. This remains nicely energetic while coming across as potent, and it lingers incredibly long. Caparzo found an excellent balance in 2020, and I love the exotic nuances found within. Very nice. (Eric Guido)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Made with organically farmed grapes—90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino—this opens with aromas of black-skinned berry, underbrush and leather. The fragrant, balanced palate offers black cherry, clove and licorice alongside firm, polished tannins. Drink 2023–2030. (Kerin O’Keefe)JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 A well-defined and typical Chianti Rufina with aromas and flavors of berries and cherries, as well as darker, savory notes of bark and dried herbs. Medium body and grainy tannins that have a dusty-oak coating that absorbs the fruit flavors nicely and gives a long, firm and a slightly bitter, licoricy finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but will be better integrated in 2023.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022 Black-cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Some lead pencil and slate, too. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and firm acidity, which adds verve and tension to the wine. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2020 Chianti Classico is bright, elegant, and wonderfully translucent, with lovely red fruit character and all the elegance of Radda coming through nicely. Mint, blood orange, pipe tobacco, and spice linger on the brilliant, delineated finish. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022 This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish. Sangiovese, Colorino and Pugnitello. Drink now through 2030. 29,000 cases made, 9,745 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2020 Chianti Classico is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Soft contours wrap around succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, spice and new leather. This forward, open-knit Chianti Classico is not terribly complex, but it sure is delicious. (Antonio Galloni)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2020 Chianti Classico RS Cultusboni is a dense, powerful wine. Black cherry, cloves, scorched earth and licorice show the darker side of Sangiovese. There’s good depth, even if at times the 2020 feels a bit heavy and monolithic. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022 Pretty nose of pine needles, lavender, raspberries, mulberries, oranges and cloves. It’s medium-bodied with a juicy, creamy palate and fine tannins. Fruity, ripe and so drinkable now.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022 Offers fine depth to the cherry, plum and woodsy aromas, with iron, tobacco and herb flavors. Shows solid structure and lingers nicely on the finish. Drink now through 2027. 450,000 cases made, 15,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 Masses of crushed raspberry, peppery florals and smoky mineral-earth tones create a bouquet that is impossible to ignore as the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is a pure and vibrant yet silky effort that contrasts ripe berries with hints of sour citrus and savory spice. While packed full of zesty energy, it finishes classically dry and persistent, leaving notes of roses and cloves to linger. Give the 2020 another year of cellaring for the full effect and enjoy over the medium term. (Eric Guido)
JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022 This has aromas of rosemary, orange peel, sour cherry, beeswax and flower petals. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity and powdery tannins. Crunchy and fresh. Drink now.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022 Blue flower, sandalwood, cassis and spice shape the nose on this lovely red. All about finesse and youthful tension, the savory, elegantly structured palate features juicy Morello cherry, coffee bean and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and focused. Drink through 2027. (Kerin O’Keefe)JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 6, 2022 A fresh and composed red with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with minerals and citrus underneath. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a racy, long finish. Drink or hold.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2020 Chianti Classico Ama is a pretty, understated wine that shows the vivid side of Sangiovese in its bright, red-fleshed fruit. Medium bodied and vibrant, with brisk acids and lifted aromatics, the 2020 is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 10–15 years. Ama is the estate’s young-vines Chianti Classico. I loved it. (Antonio Galloni)
