Shop for Barolo and other Nebbiolo Wines

Nebbiolo, along with Sangiovese, is one of the two quintessential grapes of Italy, and with good reason. The Nebbiolo grape is responsible for some of the world's most celebrated wines, including the fabulous wines of Barolo. You'll find Barolos in almost any serious collector's wine cellar, and the Nebbiolo grape rewards the collector with age as its complexities mature.

Nebbiolo is sometimes described as an "iron fist in a velvet glove." It's elegant, like the Pinot Noirs of Burgundy, yet structured like the fine Cabernets of Bordeaux. And yet, not other grape is quite as tied to its terroir as the Nebbiolo grape. Most of the best Nebbiolo wines come from the Italian communes of Barbaresco and Barolo, while attempts to recreate its magic in other countries have not proven nearly as successful.

  1. Produttori del Barbaresco Pajè Barbaresco Riserva

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#54282

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2020
The 2016 Barbaresco Pajè opens with deeply pitched spice notes that are so alluring. Pliant and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2016 possesses tremendous density and brawn. Blue/purplish fruit, cloves, lavender and menthol infuse this rich, hedonistic Barbaresco with tons of character. The tannins are present, but they are nearly buried by the sheer density of the fruit. In a word: impressive.
    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
The 2016 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè (with only 6,423 bottles released) shows contoured lines and elegant sharpness, with cherry and cassis that segue to smoke, tar and licorice. This wine is beautifully pristine and targeted in terms of its aromatic delivery. Nothing falls by the wayside. That neat, tucked-in personality also distinguishes the wine in terms of mouthfeel, with firm structure, tannins and taut fruit tension. Pajè shows exceptionally well in this vintage. The Basso and Giordano family vineyards supply the fruit in this Riserva.

  2. Produttori del Barbaresco Pajè Barbaresco Riserva

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#57668

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is a fine choice for readers who enjoy wines of freshness, verve and energy. Dark fruit, menthol, spice, pine and crushed rocks are beautifully delineated. This is an especially chiseled wine in the range of 2017 Riservas. I very much like the balance of richness and vibrancy. In a word: classic.

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#56593

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
The 2016 Barbaresco Gallina is a gorgeous wine full of the classic, youthful austerity that is such a signature of the house style. Deceptive in its light to medium-bodied feel, the Gallina offers up striking Nebbiolo aromatics redolent of crushed red berry fruit, spice, mint and rose petal. Nervy tannins lend energy and drive. The translucent beauty of Nebbiolo is so alluring. What a great start to this tasting.

  4. Roagna Barbaresco Pajé

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#56484

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021
Scents of rose, cherry and hay lead off, with cherry and raspberry fruit flavors taking center stage in this complex and structured red. Flourishes of white pepper, sun-kissed fields and tar add depth as the refined tannins take hold of the finish. Best from 2025 through 2043. 600 cases made.
    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Aug 2022
The 2016 Barbaresco Pajè is a wine of lean weight and meaningful dimension. It’s the kind of wine that unveils itself slowly with each swirl of the glass and requires ample time to open and ultimately age. At this young stage, it shows fine berry aromas with rose, lavender bud and rosemary sprig. There are some hints of elegant smoke and crushed stone at the back. (Monica Larner)
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
The 2016 Barbaresco Pajè is one of the highlights in this range, as it offers gorgeous mid-palate depth with super-classic structure. Dark cherry, tobacco, licorice, leather and deeply-pitched spice accents infuse the 2016 with captivating nuance. The Pajè represents a bridge to the higher-end wines in this range. All of these wines have become pricey, but the Pajè is one of the larger-production wines and consistently delivers superb quality at a more approachable price than many of the other wines in the range. The 2016 is positively stellar.

  5. Roberto Voerzio Barolo La Serra

    2004 / 750 ml. | Item#26455

    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2008
Offers aromas of blackberry, licorice and tar. Intense and full-bodied, with a wonderful concentration of fruit, supersilky tannins and a complex finish of pure fruit and Indian spices. Superb for the vintage. Best after 2012.
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Dec 2007
The 2004 Barolo La Serra reveals a generous personality in its dark red fruit with notable depth and richness that carries through to the persistent, sweet finish. With air, floral notes develop to round out this particularly multi-dimensional, full-bodied and beautiful La Serra. 2004 is a great vintage for this wine, which can sometimes be austere. Anticipated maturity: 2009–2022.

  6. Sandrone Le Vigne Barolo

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#56018

    WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21
According to Luca Sandrone, his key to success in the hot and dry 2017 vintage was resisting the temptation to pick too early, before the grapes reached optimal phenolic ripeness. While some producers began picking in September, the Sandrone team waited until early October, when cooler temperatures refreshed the vines. Le Vigne, a blend of fruit from four communes (Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Novello and Serralunga d’Alba), indicates that the team’s timing was spot-on. The wine’s rich dark cherry flavors are laced with notes of licorice, carob and warm spice, the flavors gliding on smooth, polished tannins in a long, layered finish.
    VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2017 Barolo Le Vigne is rich, pliant and so expressive. Even so, I imagine it will need a few years to open up fully. Bright red fruit, rose petal, blood orange and spice give the 2017 its distinctly red-toned profile. Elegant and translucent, the 2017 is very nicely balanced. Vineyard sources are Baudana, Villero, Vignane and Merli.

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
The Luciano Sandrone 2019 Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore is a beautiful expression of this mighty red grape from the north of Italy. The Valmaggiore vineyard in Roero offers a spicy and accessible interpretation with plenty of wild cherry and blue flower. This vintage also offers pretty layer of crushed white peppercorn. You get terrific complexity and a very food-friendly ensemble at a competitive price.

  8. Sottimano Barbaresco Fausoni

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59961

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022
The 2019 Barbaresco Fausoni is a terrific example of the work that has been done here, especially over the last few years, to give the wines greater finesse. Deeply pitched aromatics meld into a huge core of fruit as this expressive, translucent Barbaresco opens. I admire the delineation and focus here. Bright red-toned fruit, white pepper, mint and chalk abound. There’s tremendous purity of fruit here, while the balance is just stunning. (Antonio Galloni)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Aug 2022
The 2019 Barbaresco Fausoni is a little more open and immediate compared to the other new releases in this portfolio of excellent wines. The bouquet is redolent of dried raspberry, cherry, sweet soil and candied lilac. This is an elegant and streamlined wine that embraces the elegance of Nebbiolo and the classic 2019 vintage. 9. Trediberri Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#55352

    WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21
This wine reflects the energy and intensity of Nicola Oberto, Trediberri’s young winemaker. The harvest was one of the earliest in the winery’s history, and Oberto decided to forego post-fermentation maceration, to control the tannic extraction. The result is a wine that offers bright red-cherry flavors that are fresh and precise, buoyed by lively acidity and the high-toned floral scents that are a signature of this cru. It is an exciting wine, already poised and well-knit, with plenty of cellaring potential.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
The 2017 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata is powerful, dense and tightly wound. This is an especially dark, somber wine from a site where Barolos tend to be much more floral and red-toned in their fruit expression. At the same time, the Rocche is less impacted by oak than some of the earlier vintages, which leads me to think all the 2017 needs is time in bottle to unwind. There is a lot here.

  10. Trediberri Langhe Nebbiolo

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59215

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022
The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is fabulous. Crushed berries, spice, mint, dried rose petal and licorice are beautifully delineated. The purity of the flavors is remarkable. Vineyard sites are Berri (35%), plus non-estate vineyards in Levice, Alta Langa (60% - leased) and Monticello d’Alba, Roero (5% - purchased fruit). The 2021 was vinified and aged entirely in cement, and yet it has plenty of structure. It is a terrific choice for readers on a budget, or even readers not on a budget! (Antonio Galloni)
    WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
This wine’s dark cherry and raspberry flavors are fleshy and ripe, driven by lively acidity as the wine takes on notes of thyme and tobacco leaf. Serve it at cellar temperature to balance the wine’s bold alcohol.

  11. Vietti Barolo Cerequio

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59935

    VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Cerequio is a worthy follow up to the stellar 2018. Aromatic and deeply pitched, the 2019 races across the palate with remarkable depth and intensity. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, mint and cinnamon all open in the glass, but it is the wine’s silkiness and suppleness that impresses most. A kick of acids and tannins puts an exclamation point on the finish. This is a gorgeous Cerequio that takes all the finesse this site offers, and then turns up the volume. What a wine. (Antonio Galloni)
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
Coming from La Morra, a more fruit-forward tone can be found in the licorice spice and depth of the 2019 Barolo Cerequio, which offers slightly darker fruit, ripe berries, and peppercorn. This was the second vintage produced and is more approachable now for the vintage. It is a joyful wine though it still has ripe structure. Drink 2024–2044. (Audrey Frick)

  12. Vietti Barolo Lazzarito

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#54231

    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/27/2021
From the southwest facing amphitheater of Lazzarito in Serralunga d’Alba the 2017 Barolo Lazzarito was aged for 30 months in a combination of large oak casks and barrique. The nose is layered with elegant spice and floral notes of cedar, red plum, and brushed leather. There is incredible balance within its structure, which has deceptive ease for early drinking. Hold 3–5 years or drink 2023–2046. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
Vietti’s 2017 Barolo Lazzarito is absolutely gorgeous. Whatever the challenges of the growing season, they appear to have been no problem here. More than anything else, the Lazzarito impresses with its magnificent depth and stature. Super-ripe red fruit, white pepper, mint, tobacco, cured meat, spice and rose petal open gradually with time in the glass. I would not be in a rush to open bottles anytime soon. The Lazzarito has been one of the most improved wines at Vietti for a number of years. The 2017 is so captivating.
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
A release of 8,760 bottles, the Vietti 2017 Barolo Lazzarito draws its fruit from Serralunga d’Alba and reveals a luminous garnet color. Compared to some of the others in this portfolio, the wine takes a little longer to open and express itself. It does, however, unfold to dark cherry, redcurrant, grilled herb, iron ore and candied orange peel. You need to give your glass a few extra vigorous swirls. Those rusty mineral notes build in intensity and drive the wine’s medium-long finish.

  13. Vietti Barolo Lazzarito

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57040

    RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jun 2022
The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito represents Vietti’s interpretation of Serralunga d’Alba, the village often associated with the most powerful wines in the appellation. The Lazzarito completes its secondary fermentation in barrique over three months and is then racked into large oak botti for an additional two years of aging. With some 8,000 bottles produced in this smaller vintage, the wine is very indicative of its geographic origins with tight black fruit, rusty nail, blood orange and earth. Compared to the others in this series, this wine delivers more lasting tannic power. A bit salty and savory now, it is well suited to long aging. (Monica Larner)
    WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
There’s a pleasant, crunchy edge to the red cherry and raspberry flavors in this wine that continues from start to finish. High-toned and floral, the wine gains layers of tobacco, blood orange and menthol with air, maintaining freshness and depth for nearly a week after opening—an indicator that this is a 2018 Barolo with good aging potential.
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito is tense, vibrant and very much closed in on itself. Searing tannins and Serralunga structure dominate today. Crushed rocks, gravel, red fruit, rose petal, lavender and sage all run though this sculpted, vibrant Serralunga Barolo. What stands out most about the Lazzarito today is that is stylistically more similar to the other Barolos than it was a few years ago. I expect great things in time here.
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, March 3, 2022
Quite a flamboyant feel to this on the nose, showing raspberries and grainy notes, together with hints of fresh mushrooms. Some brighter passion fruit comes through with air. Medium-bodied with an intense core of vibrant fruit and youthful tannin which together, given time, will add length and breadth to the wine. Wait for this one. Try from 2024.

  14. Vietti Barolo Lazzarito

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59934

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Lazzarito continues a trend seen in recent years in which the focus has been more about finesse than raw power. Intense red fruit, iron, dried herbs, chalk, dried rose petal and white pepper all run through this deep, virile Barolo. The power and intensity of Serralunga really come alive on the heady, explosive finish. Bright saline notes linger on the deep, resonant finish. A Barolo of raw, unbridled power, the Lazzarito demands patience. (Antonio Galloni)
    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
Another pale ruby Barolo, the 2019 Barolo Lazzarito is from a 2.5-hectare parcel of the cru and reveals a hint of purple flowers, with a mix of red and blue fruit berries. It has more expansiveness on the palate, with more broadness, although it is not weighted. It offers a light balsamic tone, with rosemary and fresh herbs, and is persistent on the long finish. This will benefit from more time in bottle and drink 2026–2046. (Audrey Frick)

  15. Vietti Barolo Ravera

    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#47451

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2018
Another highlight in this range, the 2014 Barolo Ravera opens with the most exquisite, captivating aromatics imaginable. It will be interesting to see if it develops a bit more midpalate depth and pliancy. Today, the 2014 is a bit austere, even within the context of the year and this site, where the wines are a bit on the nervous side to start. I have seen Vietti Raveras blossom into spectacular wines and imagine that will be the case here as well. Readers should not plan on opening a bottle anytime soon.
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
To my palate, the Ravera cru is one of the most immediately recognizable in the entire Barolo appellation. It gives off robust aromas of cherry liqueur and bitter chocolate. Those are two of the beautifully polished characteristics you get with the 2014 Barolo Ravera. But there is a lot more complexity to behold in this wine. Subtle notes of balsam herb, crushed mineral and rusty iron also appear. This next descriptor might seem awkward to a non-Italian readership, but you might even detect a hint of perfumed anchovy. It’s all good and all beautiful.
