Nebbiolo, along with Sangiovese, is one of the two quintessential grapes of Italy, and with good reason. The Nebbiolo grape is responsible for some of the world's most celebrated wines, including the fabulous wines of Barolo. You'll find Barolos in almost any serious collector's wine cellar, and the Nebbiolo grape rewards the collector with age as its complexities mature.
Nebbiolo is sometimes described as an "iron fist in a velvet glove." It's elegant, like the Pinot Noirs of Burgundy, yet structured like the fine Cabernets of Bordeaux. And yet, not other grape is quite as tied to its terroir as the Nebbiolo grape. Most of the best Nebbiolo wines come from the Italian communes of Barbaresco and Barolo, while attempts to recreate its magic in other countries have not proven nearly as successful.

SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2023 A sculpted red, with hints of tea rose, dried thyme and spices accenting a core of baked raspberry and blackberry fruit, espresso, licorice and minerally iron and smoke. Featuring firm, lightly chewy tannins, this fresh and tightly meshed version opens nicely in the glass -- sip slowly or decant ahead of time. Best from 2024 through 2034. 2,083 cases made, 300 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022 The 2018 Sfursat 5 Stelle is compelling. Macerated dark cherry, leather, herbs and baking spices are nicely pushed forward. Impeccable in its balance and overall harmony, the 2018 looks to offer fine drinking over the near and medium term. It is another terrific wine from Negri that points to a bright future. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023 Delivers a whiff of grilled beef that gives way to flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose hip and mineral. Compact, even austere, as assertive tannins emerge on the resonant finish. Best from 2026 through 2045. 6,500 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2019 Barolo Albe is a nuanced, understated wine, but it is also a rare Albe that needs time in bottle. Sweet floral and spice notes open first, leading to an attractive core of Nebbiolo fruit. Gentle and understated, with lovely precision, the 2019 Albe is a hushed wine that is more about energy than size. I have seen the Albe really blossom with a few years in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well given its super-classic feel. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019 Hay, freshly cut grass and loam aromas segue to a core of cherry that pulls this together. The sweet fruit handles the burly tannins well, ending in a cascade of eucalyptus and tobacco notes. Best from 2023 through 2043. 920 cases made.
