Simply put, other than in rare instances, red Burgundy wines are usually made from the Pinot Noir grape and white Burgundy wines are made from Chardonnay. The wines are always 100% varietal as blending is not permitted. Other grapes like Gamay (red) and Aligote (white) are permitted in certain appellations and are labeled as such.

Common Burgundy wines are labeled "Bourgogne wine" or "Vin de Bourgogne" and almost always have the name of the grape, such as Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, prominently on the label.

The limestone escarpment that gives the entire Burgundy wine region its unique terroir is called the Côte d'Or. The most important wines of Burgundy in the Côte d'Or come from the sub-regions named Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. As the wines of Burgundy have received increased in demand by consumers worldwide, wines from the Côte Chalonnaise, a small area to the south that was thought to be inferior in the past, are beginning to receive attention and have largely improved.

Wines from Chablis, Beaujolais, and the Maconnais are also considered Burgundy wines.

  1. Famille Vincent Pouilly-Fuissé Marie-Antoinette

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59134

    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022
The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Marie-Antoinette comes mostly from Vergisson parcels on southerly-exposed vines, matured in stainless-steel on the fine lees for 12 months. It has a taut, minimal, steely bouquet that offers discrete saline/smoky scents. The palate is well balanced with grapefruit and touches of orange rind. Quite sapid with tropical hints towards the finish, though it is never an opulent Pouilly-Fuissé. It just expresses the warmth of the vintage. (Neal Martin)

  2. Gilbert Picq & ses Fils Chablis

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59129

    VN89+89–91 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022
The 2021 Chablis Village was picked as low as 20hl/ha in some parcels that were severely affected by frost. Nevertheless, it has a fresh and vibrant bouquet with fine mineralité and vivacity. “Classic Chablis” as Didier Picq tells me with what I am sure is a grin. The palate is fresh and taut, a fine saline undercurrent with a sharp and quite harmonious finish. You don’t find Chablis-Village much better than this in 2021. (Neal Martin)

  3. Louis Jadot Savigny-Lès-Beaune La Dominode Premier Cru

    Domaine Louis Jadot
    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#55909

    RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
Once again one of the highlights of the range, the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with notes of cassis, plums, dark chocolate, loamy soil and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it’s elegantly muscular, with fine depth and lively acids.
    VN90+90–92 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru was more closed than the Clos des Guettes on the nose, presenting darker fruit tinged with iodine and light iris petals. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, fine grip and edginess and a subtle white pepper and clove note toward the finish. This is a very well-crafted Savigny that should drink well for 10–15 years.

    RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes represents another fine rendition of this remarkably consistent cuvée. Unfurling in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries, warm spices and sweet soil tones, it’s medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. Given its structure and substance, it will amply reward at least a few years’ patience. (William Kelley)

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru from vines located on the Saint-Aubin side on shallow soils, has wonderful mineralité on the nose, crushed rock filtering through the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh, lively and spicy on the finish with veins of stem ginger. I love this… you will too. (Neal Martin)

  6. Gilbert Picq & ses Fils Chablis Vieilles Vignes

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59130

    VN92+92–94 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022
The 2021 Chablis Vieilles Vignes was acutely affected by the frost with Vaudécorse cropped at a paltry 9hl/ha. It has a flinty, tightly-wound bouquet that is focused and vibrant, yet somehow more “serious” than the Chablis-Villages. The palate is very well balanced with more depth and substance than the Chablis-Village, harmonious, lightly spiced with gorgeous lime and white peach notes towards the elegant finish. Wonderful. 2021 / 750 ml. | Item#60373

    VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022
The 2021 Chablis Vosgros 1er Cru is the only cuvée with a normal yield (50hl/ha) as Didier warmed the vineyard with wax candles during the frost. It has a perfumed nose with hints of pressed white flowers and a light oyster shell tincture that emerges with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, perhaps the most saline of Picq’s cuvées with a long tail on the satisfying finish. Proper Chablis! (Neal Martin)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58240

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2020 Mâcon-Bussières Le Monsard has a well-defined and quite lifted bouquet with lovely floral scents, buttercup and dandelion. The palate is well balanced with a sappy entry, orange rind and tangerine with a light spicy note towards the finish. Give this two to four years in bottle if you can. Closure: Diam. (Neal Martin)
    RP89+89+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Sep 2022
Offering up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, fresh melon, white flowers and wet stones framed by light reduction, the 2020 Mâcon-Bussière Le Monsard is medium-bodied, satiny and racy, with chalky structure and a tightly wound core. (William Kelley)

  9. Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Grand Cru

    Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58882

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023
Intense and tightly wound, this red is firmly structured and energetic, featuring cherry, strawberry, stone and spice flavors, with the acidity and tannins lending support for future evolution. All the components are there, this just needs a few years to knit together. Best from 2027 through 2045. 258 cases made, 129 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
    VN94+94–96 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is often one of Jadot’s strongest cards amongst the Côte de Beaune reds and this is no different. It has a captivating bouquet with earthy red fruit, graphite, just a faint hint of menthol that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with a dash of white pepper towards the sustained finish. It will require several years in bottle to show its best, but it will be worth waiting for. (Neal Martin)
    RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with notions of raw cocoa, orange rind, warm spices and smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it’s deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, resonant finish. (William Kelley)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58708

    RP89+89–91 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
Notes of rose petals peonies, sweet red fruits and cinnamon introduce the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, a medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety wine that’s lively and seamless, with fine depth at the core and an expansive finish. (William Kelley)
    VN89+89–91 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, which was taken from tank, has a vivid blackberry and bilberry-scented bouquet with a light marine influence emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine-bored Morey with an appealing strictness towards the finish. Enjoy this over the next decade. (Neal Martin)

  13. Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Domaine Louis Jadot
    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#44043

    RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015
The 2014 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru is maybe the surprise package this year. It comes from very old vines planted in 1921. It has a really quite beautiful bouquet with very pure, mineral-rich wild strawberry and raspberry fruit — precise and wonderfully focused. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry, fresh and tensile but with intense tart red cherry and strawberry fruit fanning out on the finish. Très grand cru! This comes highly recommended.
    VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2016
Medium bright red, not hugely saturated. Brisk, high-pitched perfume of black cherry, rose petal, red licorice and spices. Juicy, bright and light on its feet, showing outstanding sneaky intensity to the very concentrated flavors of raspberry, minerals and rose petal. Very dense, classy and fine-grained grand cru with a strikingly long, rising finish. This makes the Clos Saint-Jacques seem a bit lean by comparison. These are Jadot’s oldest vines, says Barnier, and they virtually always yield about 35 hectoliters per hectare.
