Champagne is by far the most well-known sparkling wine. From Champagne, France, it is the most recognizable celebratory wine there is. Produced by adding a small amount of sugar to the bottle before bottling, it is a bubbly wine loaded with flavor.
Well-known Champagne brands include Moet, as well as Veuve Clicquot. These high-end, fine Champagnes are quite nice in themselves, however a good sparkling wine (any sparkler NOT from Champagne, France) can hold its own in contest with some of the nicer Champagne brands. Good sparkling wine may come from many countries, including the United States, Italy (Prosecco, Moscato), Spain (Cava), Germany, and even South America!

JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 27, 2019 Bright and fresh with lots of lemons and nectarines. Fruity and tangy on the palate with some gassy bubbles. Nice touch of minerality on the finish. Drink now.

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2018 Agrapart’s NV Brut 7 Crus is simply gorgeous. Rich, creamy and inviting, the 7 Crus hits all the right notes. The 7 Crus doesn’t quite have the focus or energy of the top wines here, but it is incredibly delicious, approachable and relatively easy to find. This may very well be the finest release of the 7 Crus I have ever tasted since this cuvée debuted a few years ago. The 7 Crus is 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. This release is equal parts 2015 and 2014. Don’t miss it! Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2018. (Antonio Galloni)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Terroirs Grand Cru is bright, punchy and full of the tension that is such an Agrapart signature. Grapefruit, mint, white pepper and crushed rocks all lend quite a bit of brilliance to this striking, sculpted Champagne. The balance and purity here is unreal, especially at this price point. The Terroirs is the hidden gem in the Agrapart range this year. Don’t miss it. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: May, 2021. (Antonio Galloni)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2012 Vivid orange-pink. Aromas and flavors of ripe red berries, candied rose and toasty lees. Fleshy but nervy and focused, with strong mineral cut and hints of bitter herbs on the very long, energetic finish. Smoothly blends richness and vivacity, making it extremely flexible with food or without.ST9292 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2012 Vivid orange-pink. Aromas and flavors of ripe red berries, candied rose and toasty lees. Fleshy but nervy and focused, with strong mineral cut and hints of bitter herbs on the very long, energetic finish. Smoothly blends richness and vivacity, making it extremely flexible with food or without.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2011 Unfortunately I was only able to taste one new release from Andre Clouet this year. The NV Brut Grande Reserve emerges from the glass with layers of hazelnut, pear, spice and dried flower aromas. This rich, creamy wine impresses for its balance and sheer richness. I loved it. This is Lot L06. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2014.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2011 The NV Brut Grande Réserve emerges from the glass with layers of hazelnut, pear, spice and dried flower aromas. RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Dec 2010 The NV Grand Cru Cuvee 1911 emerges from the glass with the most haunting of perfumes. Sweet rose petal and jasmine are some of the nuances that emerge over time. Despite recent disgorgement, the purity of the fruit and the extraordinary elegance of the mousse are hard to miss. This is an exceptional, elegant version of the 1911 that should drink beautifully for years to come. The bottle I tasted needed quite a bit of air to open up, so readers should be patient with the wine at this stage. The current release of the 1911 is 100% Pinot Noir, 50% 2002 vintage and 50% a solera blend that dates back to 1998. This is Lot L05, disgorged October 4, 2010 and bottled with dosage of 6 grams per liter. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2020.WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2010 While showing more fruit girth than most Champagnes, this also has the austere mineral acidity to sculpt it into fine proportion and fantastic, weightless length. Its pinot flavors come through in floral apricot and juicy peach, both powerful and harmonious. For Nantucket Bay scallops or belly tuna sashimi.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Dec 2018 Created in 1964 as a tribute to the house’s founder, the youngest release is the 2006 Millésime Brut Cuvée Nicolas François, a blend of 60% Pinot Noir from premier and grand crus from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne and 40% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Almost entirely fermented in stainless steel (only 5% was vinified in oak barrels) and aged for 11 years on the lees, this is a beautifully ripe and rich yet pure Champagne with ripe fruit flavors intermixed with chalky notes and brioche/nougat flavors. The palate is intense and concentrated in its rich fruit and substantial depth but also tight, highly elegant and perfectly balanced. The typical finesse of Billecart-Salmon is palatable as well as amazingly pure, with the persistent structure of a great Champagne. The 2006 already drinks dangerously well, but there is no need to hurry, this will go a long way. My sample is from lot L 193A815 45578 that was disgorged in April 2018. Tasted in November 2018.JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, January 7, 2018 A rounded vintage, with very attractive white peach, apricot and nectarine fruits as well as lemon and yellow grapefruit, dried flowers, orange rind and some clotted cream. The palate has an assertive, sturdy and punchy feel to it. Bright acidity that’s lime sorbet-like. Good length and plenty of fresh stone fruit flavors. Fleshy and lively. Drink this now.WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2018 Named after the founder of the house, Nicolas François Billecart (who married Elisabeth Salmon), this wine is now at its peak. It is poised between fresh apple fruits and broader, riper maturity. This balance gives a ripe wine hinting at toast and almonds while still with a dry aftertaste. Drink now, although in 2019 it will be even better.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - May 2021 The 2009 Vintage is another stellar wine in this range from Billecart-Salmon. This is the first time the Vintage includes Meunier in the blend. That approach has worked out so well here. Resonant and generous, the 2009 is so expressive today. The low dosage of two grams per liter is expertly judged. The 2009 is rich, but not heavy, while offering all of the natural generosity of the year. (Antonio Galloni)
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2010 Always a rich non-vintage, this latest bottling doesn’t disappoint expectations. It has a rich, biscuity character, hints of toast along with pure citrus and fresh apricots. It is ripe, generous, to be drunk with food.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2018 Bright, almost crunchy acidity and the finely detailed mousse carry an expressive mix of poached apricot and cherry fruit, toast point, orange peel and ground ginger flavors in this firm, focused Champagne, with a graphite-laced, minerally finish. Drink now through 2022. 12,000 cases imported.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Dec 2008 The NV Brut Special Cuvée opens with elegant, well-delineated aromas of honey, brioche, roasted nuts, orange zest, flowers and peaches, of which appear on the palate in a classy, finessed expression of the house style. This is an especially refined and delicious NV Champagne. The Special Cuvée is roughly 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier (2004, 2003) sourced from a variety of vineyards. Bollinger adds 5–10% of reserve wines (in this case from 1995 and 1996, aged in magnums) which gives this offering its lovely complexity. The dosage is 7–9 grams per liter. This is Lot: 807704, disgorged towards the end of 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2012.WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2013 At every turn of flavor, barrel-fermented base wines add opulence to this Champagne with scents of apple wood, ginger and mustard seed balancing the youthful fruit. The flavors buzz with acidity and richness, a contrast of green apple with broader notes of baked apple; the texture is creamy, the finish completely clean. The wine’s structure is substantial enough to serve with sliced, seared beef filet at a holiday party.ST8888 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2005 Light gold color with a strong mousse. Classic Bollinger aromas of poached pear, caramel apple and toasted bread, lifted by a bright hint of lime. Full and rich on the palate, held up by good acids. The notes of apple, pear and toast repeat in the mouth. Finishes with flavors of singed apples and pears.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Apr 2023 Based on the 2016 vintage, with 32% of vins de réserve, the Henriot NV Blanc de Blancs, disgorged in June 2022 with five grams per liter, reveals an elegant and fresh bouquet with aromas of lemon, peach, spring flowers, spices and pastry. Seamless and vinous, the palate is medium to full-bodied with an elegant mousse and a lively, fresh finish. It is slightly tighter than last year, but this is a well-elaborated Blanc de Blancs that can age for another five years. (Yohan Castaing)SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2019 Lightly toasty, with a hint of grilled nut lacing the poached apple, fleur de sel and lemon pastry cream notes. Fresh and balanced, with the fine mousse carrying the flavor range on the creamy finish. Drink now through 2022. 1,500 cases imported.
