Champagne is by far the most well-known sparkling wine. From Champagne, France, it is the most recognizable celebratory wine there is. Produced by adding a small amount of sugar to the bottle before bottling, it is a bubbly wine loaded with flavor.
Well-known Champagne brands include Moet, as well as Veuve Clicquot. These high-end, fine Champagnes are quite nice in themselves, however a good sparkling wine (any sparkler NOT from Champagne, France) can hold its own in contest with some of the nicer Champagne brands. Good sparkling wine may come from many countries, including the United States, Italy (Prosecco, Moscato), Spain (Cava), Germany, and even South America!

SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2011 This shows more finesse than many of its peers, displaying a subtle juiciness, joined by aromatic apricot, quince, mandarin orange and almond notes. Finely meshed with a lightly spiced finish. Drink now.RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st May 2011 The lineup begins with the Non-Vintage Cordon Negro made from the three traditional grape varieties of the Cava DO (Xarel-lo, Macabeu, and Parellada) with the emphasis on the latter for this bottling. It is made in a tasty, friendly style with a dosage of 9 grams making it just off-dry on the palate. It is a cleanly made sparkling wine that can be found in discount stores at well under the suggested retail price.WS8686 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2014 Bold and juicy passion fruit scents combine with the flinty, rubber-meets-the-road reduction character typical of Cava. This is rich and round, finishing clean. Chill it for grilled calamares and other tapas.WE8585 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/15/2011 Cidery on the nose, with a standard palate and mildly briney flavors of apple and other basic white fruits. Highly regular, with a decent finish. A quaffer or the type of Cava to mix with orange juice.

WS8989 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2013 One of the most reliable Cavas at the price, this offers cool, crisp cider apple flavors along with leesy notes of toast, nuts and flowers. It’s gentle and clean, fuel for a dance party.SP8686 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2013 Fresh and balanced, with a creamy bead supporting apple puree, pastry cream, anise and preserved lemon notes. Drink now. 75,570 cases imported.WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2013 Standard lemon-lime aromas open this quaffable Cava. In the mouth, it’s creamy and soft but not mushy, with candied mango, papaya and vanilla flavors that finish sweet.RP8585 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st May 2011 Segura Viudas’ entry level Cava, the Non-Vintage Brut Reserva offers up a pleasant perfume of yeast notes, biscuit, and green apple. It is a straightforward, lively, slightly off-dry bubbly that is a good value for drinking over the next 12–18 months.
WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2015 Raspberry and red-plum aromas are light and a touch smoky. On the palate this is fresh, juicy and driven by good acidity. Bright stone-fruit flavors blend with pie-cherry notes in front of a lasting, citrusy finish.SP8686 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2016 Fresh and balanced, this accessible rosé offers hints of dried cherry and strawberry fruit, crushed stone, mandarin orange peel and spice, with a creamy finish. Drink now. 27,705 cases made.RP8585 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st May 2011 The Non-Vintage Brut Rosé displays a charming nose of strawberry and cherry, but on the palate it is a straightforward effort searching for fruit. Drink it over the next 12–18 months.

WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2011 A selection of macabeo and parellada grown at estate vineyards in the Alt Penedes, Reserva Heredad is a complex and heady Cava that delivers on its richness without sweetness. Its potent depth of flavor has a smoky minerality and fresh apple-skin notes. This is full and meaty enough to serve with roast chicken or albondigas de ternera (veal meatballs).RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st May 2011 The Non-Vintage Reserva Heredad is made entirely from 2006 fruit, Macabeo 67% and Parellada 33%. It is essentially a vintage selection of the best fruit from a given year. Mineral, smoked nuts, green apple, and floral notes inform the nose leading to a crisp, refreshing, nicely proportioned Cava that will provide pleasure for another 1–2 years.WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2013 Fresh, clean apple and white-peach aromas are good but not overly expressive or complex. This feels fresh and lifted, with minerally, stony flavors of apple and lime. A clean, pointed finish feels nice and tastes like lettuce and bitter greens.
JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 27, 2019 Bright and fresh with lots of lemons and nectarines. Fruity and tangy on the palate with some gassy bubbles. Nice touch of minerality on the finish. Drink now.

WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2014 This salmon-colored sparkler is fruity up front, with berry and cotton candy aromas. The palate is crisp and well cut, while flavors of nectarine, mango and honey finish crisp. A good, basic sweet quaffer.

RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022 The very pale salmon/onion-skin colored 2020 De Nit is a blend of 44% Xarel.lo, 39% Macabeo, 12% Parellada and 5% Monastrell, which is closer to a white. It has energy, good ripeness and some natural concentration from the vintage, with weight and clout keeping the balance and freshness, and some very small bubbles after no less than 18 months in bottle with lees. All the wines are very expressive; they have bubbles that provide texture and lift the wine up. This is serious, dry but adjusted to different levels depending on the year, a bit more complex than the Blanc de Blancs. They produce a fair amount of this: 200,000 bottles and some other larger and smaller formats. (Luis Gutiérrez)
