Riesling wine is often associated with Germany, where it's very popular and where it first earned its keep, but there are also great Rieslings coming out of other cool-climate growing regions like New York's Finger Lakes, Oregon, Washington, Canada, and the like. Regardless of where it comes from, though, there's no denying that Riesling is a fantastic white wine grape.

While Riesling is most often associated with sweetness, dry riesling wines are plentiful and the most coveted. Sweetness is generally determined by when the grape was harvested - the first grapes harvested (labeled Kabinett in Germany) are the driest and the latter harvests tend to produce sweeter wines.

No matter what you're looking for, you'll find the perfect Riesling wine right here at WineMadeEasy.com!

  4. Fox Run Silvan Riesling

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#57705

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022
The 2020 Silvan Riesling is unoaked but for just two weeks in seventh-use French oak. It comes in with four grams of residual sugar, 7.4 of total acidity and 12.5% alcohol. Another beauty in this brand, this is fresh, crisp and transparent. Don’t worry about the wood, which is a non-factor in affecting flavor. It’s just a bit of spice for texture and mouthfeel. The rest shows precision, power and good depth. It’s a serious and stern dry Riesling with the ability to age. There is nothing fruity here. The balance here might lean a little more to fruit than with the 2019, to be sure, but they are pretty similar and neither is a wine to sip on its own on the porch. They need food. This and its predecessor vintage, not here at this time, make quite the dynamic duo. That they are so reasonably priced just puts the cherry on top. It will be interesting to see how they evolve and who wins in the end.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2022
Very fresh, featuring acacia, lemon pith and white peach notes laced with a quinine thread on the pleasantly nervy finish. Drink now through 2025. 453 cases made.

  8. Hermann J. Wiemer Magdalena Vineyard Riesling

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#35300

    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
Concentrated aromas of lemon oil, peach, pine and struck flint grace the nose of this single-vineyard Riesling. It’s rounded and full in feel on the palate, filled out by juicy orchard fruit flavors yet expertly honed by zesty acidity and a delicate grip of white tea. A lemon oil tone lingers on the finish, but with ample lift and length.

  9. Hermann J. Wiemer Reserve Dry Riesling

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#55597

    JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
A concentrated and spicy dry riesling that has tons of pink-grapefruit, apricot and mirabelle aromas. Impressive textural complexity, yet this still retains wonderful freshness and delicacy. Extremely long, delicious finish. A cuvée of 60% Josef vineyard, 20% Magdalena vineyard and 20% HJW vineyards. Drink or hold.
    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022
This blend of estate vineyards is consistently a favorite year over year. The 2020 delivers intense aromas of fennel pollen, lemon oil, yellow apple, tangerine and sliced ginger, making it utterly compelling. Ample apple and stone fruit flavors blend with earthy, spicy elements on the dry palate, with well placed acidity and a pithy texture lending support. (Alexander Peartree)
    WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 06/22
Winegrower Fred Merwarth finds that his Josef Vineyard ripens at just the right level for a dry style, so he focuses this Reserve on that site. The wine is more lemony and citrus-based than the 2020 Dry Riesling (also recommended here). It has a mildly herbal attack giving way to a midweight mouthfeel that’s comfortable and slightly tense, especially in the finish. For herb-roasted halibut.
    RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Apr 2022
The 2020 Dry Riesling Reserve comes in with eight grams of residual sugar and 12.7% alcohol and is perceptibly dry. It is a blend of 60% grapes from the Josef Vineyard, 22% from Magdalena and 18% from HJW, meaning that it has every chance to be a great wine, just like the pricier single-vineyard offerings. It is consistently one of the best intersections in the lineup for quality and price. This year it is about as good as anything in the lineup, just like last year. Deep and lingering on the finish, it has controlled power, the acidity soaked up by the concentration and countered by the modest sugar. It’s delicious but serious, sturdy but lively. It will be interesting to see how this compares with its predecessor, the 2019, as they both age. I suspect the 2019 will win as time goes on, but this is a very respectable competitor today and a pretty terrific wine with some potential upside in the cellar. (Mark Squires)

  10. Heron Hill Ingle Vineyard Riesling

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#50464

    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 06/22
Heron Hill submitted seven rieslings from Ingle—micro-selections of the largest vineyard on Canandaigua Lake. This one is an amalgam from the entire site, a cool, dry place that produces riesling with persistence and drive. Couched in lemon-lime flavors, this has a flinty, saline tang to the texture, the palate focused and lively.
    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022
The 2020 Riesling Ingle Vineyard has 8.1 grams per liter of residual sugar, 8.5 of total acidity and 11.4% alcohol. You might note that you can step up from the “Reserve” Riesling to this for an extra $2. Should you? Well, I’d say yes, but reasonable minds might differ. It’s more a matter of style than quality. The Reserve Riesling is deeper and lusher, more approachable now. Many will appreciate that style. This has sharper edges and more power. The juicy finish and the tension serve this well, but don’t think it is just a mindlessly shrill wine. It is in fine balance, with a trace of sugar around the edges. It’s very tasty and almost hard to resist, even as a dry wine, but your mind is definitely saying “this needs time, this needs time” even as you reach for the bottle. I’m impressed. I’m even more interested to see how this might evolve with a few years in the cellar. It has the potential to be even more than it is today. It should age very well. (Mark Squires)
    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, December 11, 2022
Aromas of green apples, lime peel and white peaches. Medium-bodied with bright, persistent acidity. A charmer. Drink now.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022
Juiced peach and guava aromas meet bright lemon iced tea on the nose. It’s perky and zesty on the semidry palate, with a string of lemon honey lingering over juicy peach and apple flavors. (Alexander Peartree)

    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
Concentrated tones of apple, white grapefruit, citrus perfume and peach make for a deep well of aromas on the nose. There’s real depth to the palate, where a gentle, pithy texture is lifted by juicy pome and stone fruit. It has an almost oily feel, yet that texture is quickly put to rest by the pervasive drive of the zesty acidity. It’s one to sip, savor and, if you can, cellar. Drink now–2030.
