  2. Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut

    NV / 187 ml. | Item#37564

    SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2011
This shows more finesse than many of its peers, displaying a subtle juiciness, joined by aromatic apricot, quince, mandarin orange and almond notes. Finely meshed with a lightly spiced finish. Drink now.
    RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st May 2011
The lineup begins with the Non-Vintage Cordon Negro made from the three traditional grape varieties of the Cava DO (Xarel-lo, Macabeu, and Parellada) with the emphasis on the latter for this bottling. It is made in a tasty, friendly style with a dosage of 9 grams making it just off-dry on the palate. It is a cleanly made sparkling wine that can be found in discount stores at well under the suggested retail price.
    WS8686 pts. - Wine & Spirits - August 1, 2014
Bold and juicy passion fruit scents combine with the flinty, rubber-meets-the-road reduction character typical of Cava. This is rich and round, finishing clean. Chill it for grilled calamares and other tapas.
    WE8585 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/15/2011
Cidery on the nose, with a standard palate and mildly briney flavors of apple and other basic white fruits. Highly regular, with a decent finish. A quaffer or the type of Cava to mix with orange juice.

  5. Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Clásico

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59151

    RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The red 2020 Malbec Clásico was produced with 80% grapes from Luján de Cuyo and 20% grapes from Valle de Uco, mostly their own grapes, all in stainless steel and vinified by plot with their native yeasts. It matured in concrete for nine months. It’s ripe without excess and develops a full array of aromas and flavors but keeping 13.5% alcohol, very fresh for the warm year. It’s juicy, complex beyond fruit, a little herbal, medium-bodied and with very fine tannins. It’s clean, expressive and open, a wine that has to be approachable from when you pull the cork. They are working to increase the drinkability, which will be seen more and more in the following years. This represents the largest part of their production with some 500,000 bottles. There are different bottlings. (Luis Gutiérrez)
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2022
The 2020 Malbec Clásico is 75% from Luján de Cuyo and 25% from the Uco Valley. A mild purple hue. Considering the year, the nose presents notes of quite fresh plum with hints of herbs, syrup and floral aromas. In the mouth, it has good volume, firm, grippy tannins and an expansive flow before the ripe finish. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
    JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, May 3, 2022
Nice sour cherries with a streak of white pepper and violets. Medium-bodied, but fleshy. Ripe, almost creamy tannins extend to the finish, but are still juicy and vibrant. Not complex, but so balanced and easy to drink. Drink now.

  6. Laya Red Blend

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59607

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2022
The 2021 Laya was produced with 70% Garnacha Tintorera and 30% Monastrell, looking for a fruit-driven and easy to drink red with 14.5% alcohol, ripe fruit and a soft texture. 2021 was warmer than the average but with some cold spells, especially the one in January called Filomena that brought lots of snow, despite which, it was also a dry year and they got up to 40% less grapes. This fermented in stainless steel vats with neutral yeasts, with malolactic in barrel, where the wine matured for four months. This shows some toasty oak, but it might be because it’s too young and very recently bottled. But vintages seem to take oak differently; they believe this will show as integrated as the 2020. Time will tell. In any case, it’s a wine for the short term, and it’s very good for what it is. 360,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
    JS8989 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, September 9, 2022
Rich, deep and fruity, saturated with morello cherries, sour plums, grilled Mediterranean herbs and spices. Quite fruity and generous palate with a certain amount of sweetness that makes it flattering, easy and approachable. Soft and smooth. Garnacha tintorera and monastrell. Vegan. Drink now.

  7. Viña Zorzal Garnacha

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#56608

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Nov 2021
The incredibly young and juicy 2020 Garnacha was produced with grapes from different villages, Corella, Cintruénigo, Fitero and Lerga, hence a regional blend that for the first time contains grapes from the cooler Lerga that adds lower pH, more freshness and complexity to the blend. They do a soft extraction in stainless steel using 20% full clusters and indigenous yeasts, achieving a wine with moderate alcohol (13.47%) and good freshness (pH 3.47). I felt like the wine had gone one step up in complexity and depth from the previous vintage; it’s precise, harmonious, elegant and nuanced and keeps varietal purity. It’s medium-bodied and has very fine tannins with herbal freshness, reminiscent of acid berries and bay leaf. This is a steal! One to buy by the case… 137,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021.

  8. Evodia

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60461

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Nov 2021
The very young and juicy 2020 Evodia comes from a year with more rain than average and moderately warm temperatures that resulted in an early harvest of a generous crop that delivered wines of lower alcohol (14.5%) and more freshness. It fermented with some 20% full clusters and had a very soft vinification and extraction with no pump-overs. This is always very aromatic (it’s what the name means), and in 2020 it’s even paler and more ethereal then the 2019 that was already impressive and quite a change from previous vintages and other wines from the cooperative. Only 20% of the volume matured in oak and the wine is not oaky at all and has contained ripeness and very light extraction. This is bright and elegant, fresh and very pleasant to drink. Incredible for the price. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

  9. Heron Hill Ingle Vineyard Riesling

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#50464

    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 06/22
Heron Hill submitted seven rieslings from Ingle—micro-selections of the largest vineyard on Canandaigua Lake. This one is an amalgam from the entire site, a cool, dry place that produces riesling with persistence and drive. Couched in lemon-lime flavors, this has a flinty, saline tang to the texture, the palate focused and lively.
    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022
The 2020 Riesling Ingle Vineyard has 8.1 grams per liter of residual sugar, 8.5 of total acidity and 11.4% alcohol. You might note that you can step up from the “Reserve” Riesling to this for an extra $2. Should you? Well, I’d say yes, but reasonable minds might differ. It’s more a matter of style than quality. The Reserve Riesling is deeper and lusher, more approachable now. Many will appreciate that style. This has sharper edges and more power. The juicy finish and the tension serve this well, but don’t think it is just a mindlessly shrill wine. It is in fine balance, with a trace of sugar around the edges. It’s very tasty and almost hard to resist, even as a dry wine, but your mind is definitely saying “this needs time, this needs time” even as you reach for the bottle. I’m impressed. I’m even more interested to see how this might evolve with a few years in the cellar. It has the potential to be even more than it is today. It should age very well. (Mark Squires)
    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, December 11, 2022
Aromas of green apples, lime peel and white peaches. Medium-bodied with bright, persistent acidity. A charmer. Drink now.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022
Juiced peach and guava aromas meet bright lemon iced tea on the nose. It’s perky and zesty on the semidry palate, with a string of lemon honey lingering over juicy peach and apple flavors. (Alexander Peartree)

    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, October 14, 2021
Blackberries with some toffee and dark-chocolate undertones. Beautiful, fruity palate with clean and bright fruit. Very fine tannins and a fresh finish. Yummy to drink.
    RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2022
The 2019 MO Salinas is a Monastrell produced in a varietal and fruit-driven way with high ripeness (14.7% alcohol) and good freshness. It matured in 225-liter French oak barrels for four months. It’s very fruit-driven with notes of candied raspberries and prunes, juicy and soft. It’s straightforward, chewy and with integrated oak and some tannins. 60,000 bottles produced. 11. Trivento Malbec Reserve

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59922

    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
Made with grapes from the Valle de Uco, the 2021 Reserve Malbec was produced in a light way, with 15% of the wine in contact with oak staves. It has 13.5% alcohol and good freshness and balance. It has a young, fresh and primary nose that is fruit-driven and with some herbal undertones and hints of violets. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with very fine tannins. 18 million bottles. They bottle it through the year from a single master blend. This wine represents 60% of the total volume of Trivento. (Luis Gutiérrez)
