RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Casey’s Lakeview is similarly inky bluish/purple to the rim. Tasting like blood, this wine is dense and rich with lots of chocolate, espresso, earth and spice. It is deep, full-bodied, and again, a masculine style of wine that needs at least 4–5 years of cellaring and should keep for 25 or more years.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015 Darker tonalities of fruit along with distinctly savory undertones are two of the signatures in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Casey’s Lakeview Vineyard. Rich, ample and powerful, the Casey’s Lakeview offers notable richness to fill out its broad-shouldered frame. Hints of lavender and mint add nuance in a virile Cabernet Sauvignon that needs at least a few years to fully come together.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2016 Reminding me of a Northern Rhone Syrah from the Le Meal lieu-dit on Hermitage Hill, the 2013 Syrah The Hidden Northridge Vineyard comes entirely from the Northridge Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, was fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in mostly neutral oak. It offers thrilling notes of black raspberries, toasted bread, caramelized meats and licorice in a full-bodied, ultra-pure, supple, incredibly sexy style. Possessing building, fine tannin, it needs a lengthy decant if drinking anytime soon, but this utterly seamless, perfectly balanced beauty will offer upward of two decades of overall longevity.WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 2/1/2017 Aromas of pomegranate, black fruit, herb and barrel spice lead to rich seamless palate-coating dark-fruit flavors. It’s hedonistic but retains a sense of balance along with an unabashed deliciousness.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2016 Broad, generous and opulent, with raspberry, black cherry and rhubarb flavors that maintain momentum into a long and supple finish, picking up hints of dill and black tea. Best from 2018 through 2023. 760 cases made.
SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022 Vivid acidity and a chalky underpinning make a crystalline frame for finely detailed notes of ripe melon, mandarin orange, toasted brioche and candied ginger in this harmonious Champagne, which is expressive and expansive on the palate, but with a sense of finesse and restraint. Long and creamy on the mineral-laced finish. Drink now through 2037. (Alison Napjus)RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2022 Disgorged in October last year, the 2013 Dom Pérignon is a lovely wine, defined by the long, cool growing season. Offering up aromas of crisp stone fruit, tangerine oil, buttered toast, pear, almonds and clear honey, it’s medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with bright acids and a pillowy, enveloping profile, concluding with a long, saline finish. Vincent Chaperon recalls that shatter at fruit set moderated yields and that a drying east wind in the weeks before harvest helped to maintain the good sanitation necessary to wait to pick at full maturity. (William Kelley)VN9494 pts. - Vinous - May 2022 The 2013 Dom Pérignon is quite delicate and understated. It reminds me of the 2004, but with a bit more mid-palate richness and a bit less energy. Apricot, tangerine peel, white flowers, jasmine, mint and light honeyed notes all meld together. There’s lovely vinous intensity as well as a feeling of openness that make the 2013 a delight to taste today. The 2013 doesn’t look to be an epic DP, but it sure is delicious right now. (Antonio Galloni)
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2021 The effects of a cool year on this new vintage release is impressive in its texture, acidity and serious aging potential. Crisp apple and white-fruit flavors come together with a tight structure and a pure line of freshness. Drink from 2023.RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021 Disgorged with five grams per liter dosage, Moët’s 2013 Extra Brut Grand Vintage is a real success, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, fresh bread, Meyer lemon, nougat and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and fine-boned, with an enveloping core of bright, vibrant fruit and a pretty pinpoint mousse, it concludes with a precise, penetrating finish. Incisive but not austere, it’s an impressive effort, reflecting good levels of maturity in this cool, late harvest. It’s as fine a rendition of this cuvée as I can remember tasting.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2021 This elegant Champagne displays citrus, mineral and toast character in equal measure, with bright notes of preserved lemon and verbena layered with smoke, chalk, brioche and nut flavors. The interplay is backed by deftly knit acidity, riding the fine and creamy mousse through to the lingering finish. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Disgorged May 2019. Drink now through 2030.JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 6, 2021 A creamy-textured Champagne with fine bubbles that are numerous and textural. It’s full-bodied and rounded with lovely bread dough and cooked apple, as well as just a hint of stone and mineral. It’s long, dry and satisfying at the finish. 41% chardonnay and 38% pinot noir, the rest pinot meunier. Drink now.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2022 The 2013 Brut Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is fabulous. Rich and remarkably pure, the 2013 is super-expressive right out of the gate. Bright saline notes cut through a core of lemon confit, dried flowers, apricot, tangerine peel, mint and sage. As compelling as the 2013 is, it really needs more time to open a bit. There is a feeling of transparency here that is so alluring. The 2013 is a terrific example of power with no excess weight in Champagne. I loved it. Disgorged: July 2021. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. (Antonio Galloni)RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Mar 2022 The 2013 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill has turned out especially well, wafting from the glass with aromas of orange oil, confit lemon and crisp golden orchard fruit, complemented by subtle hints of brioche and clear honey. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and seamless, with a deep core of fruit, bright acids and a beautifully refined mousse, this is an elegant, penetrating rendition of Churchill that stands out for its charm and effortlessness. (William Kelley)
RP9999 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Apr 2021 A candidate for wine-of-the-vintage honors in Champagne, Roederer’s 2013 Cristal Rosé is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers, red berries, stone fruit, freshly baked bread and tangerine oil. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, the vintage’s bright girdling acids are amply cloaked in exuberant, expressive and notably concentrated fruit; so while this Cristal is as tensile and age-worthy as one would expect, it’s also impressively fleshy and generous given the year. Concluding with an intensely sapid finish, the 2013 isn’t as overtly structured as the muscular, tightly wound 2012: rather, it’s the 2013’s alliance of cut and flesh, precision and charm that’s so compelling this year. This is another banner vintage for what I consider the reigning champion of the region’s tête de cuvée bottlings, and it will be worth an effort to acquire.VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 The 2013 Cristal Rosé is searingly intense right out of the glass, just like the Blanc, except it has a bit more fleshiness because of the skin contact on the Pinot. Cristal Rosé has one of the best track records for aging in Champagne. I suspect the 2013 will join the ranks of the epic vintages, but it is painfully tight today. The blend is 55% Pinot Noir (from Aÿ) and 45% Chardonnay (from Avize and Mesnil) done in the classic Roederer infusion style in which Pinot Noir is vinified on the skins and then blended with Chardonnay to complete the fermentation. About 25% of the lots were done in oak, while malolactic fermentation was blocked.SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2021 Like an orchestra that melds the voices of many components into one compelling song, this bright rosé offers precision balance, seamlessly knitting an expressive range of ripe nectarine and raspberry fruit, Marcona almond, blood orange peel and candied ginger flavors with racy acidity and saline-laced minerality. Plush and creamy on the lasting finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Drink now through 2036. 154 cases imported.
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2016 The 2013 Barbaresco Costa Russi is a real head-turner. Crystalline and utterly vivid in its expression of Nebbiolo, the 2013 is all class. Stylistically, the Costa Russi is closest to the straight Barbaresco, but it has a little more mid-palate sweetness and density. Bright floral and minty notes add lift on the chiseled, expressive finish. The Costa Russi is the star of the show this year, considering it is the least pedigreed of Gaja’s three single-vineyard sites. The 2013 has been stunningly beautiful on the three occasions I have tasted it so far.JS9898 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 9, 2016 Medium ruby color. The class, strength and finesse to this wine are ever present with berry, dark-chocolate and walnut character. Full-bodied, dense and chewy. Very fresh. Chocolate, mango and ripe-strawberry flavors herald a bright finish. Needs four or five years to soften. Classic tannins. Better in 2021.RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2016 The 2013 Barbaresco Costa Russi is a celebration of vineyard site. In the past, this wine was blended with 5% Barbera, but this is no longer the case starting now. For the first time in recent memory, we are tasting a pure expression of Nebbiolo as harvested from the rows of vines in the Costa Russi cru, located directly below Sorì Tildìn at the base of the Barbaresco village. The vines are over 65-years-old and are planted in limestone clay and marl soils. Costa Russi is known for delicate, light-bodied wines that exhibit floral aromas of rose hip and lavender, as well as darker fruit tones at the back. Those qualities are beautifully evident in this vintage. The mouthfeel is characterized by a firm sense of tannic structure that is common to all of Gaja’s new releases in the 2013 vintage.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Mar 2016 From Oakville, the 2013 Pedregal Vineyard is usually the top Cabernet Sauvignon. A classic nose of cedar wood, forest floor, blackcurrants and loamy earth notes is followed by a wine of stunning intensity, full-bodied potency, beautiful purity and length. There is plenty of tannin, but the extravagant richness seems to cover it up extremely well.VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard has turned out beautifully. It is also much more accessible young than I expected, despite its considerable size. Bright red stone fruit and pomegranate notes are pushed forward. There is plenty of tannin, but it is nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. There is plenty of stuffing and potential here.WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2017 This wine was co-fermented with 15% Petit Verdot from the same rocky, hillside site. The two varieties marry seamlessly in the glass, exuding a distinct perfume of forest mushroom and violet. Though pronounced in structure the wine is also soft and round, with a dotting of dried herb and a considerable length of clove and dust. It’s rich, intense and memorable.SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2016 Shows impressive richness, size and grace. For all the depth and intensity, this features a supple, caressing element to the tannins, letting the earth, dried herb and dark berry flavors flow easily. The tannins linger in the background and then finish with a burst of licorice, spice, mocha and oak details. Best from 2019 through 2032. 615 cases made.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 / 750 ml. | Item#43581
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Three Acre shows beautiful sweet crème de cassis, spring flowers and blacker berry fruit. It has an intriguing wild mountain berry note. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated, opulent and sexy, this is the wine to drink now and over the next 15–20 years.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Three Acre has turned out beautifully. Plump, juicy and deeply expressive, the 2013 is quite expressive this year, especially within the context of the vintage. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, new leather and licorice meld together in a supple, creamy Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next decade or so. Dollops of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc round out the blend.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2016 As always, the Sorì Tildìn is a wine of nuance and delineation above all else. Beautifully sculpted and precise, the 2013 offers up a compelling interplay of dark red cherry, mint, lavender and licorice. A subtle accent of French oak adds nuance without detracting from the wine’s translucent personality and overall energy. At the same time, it is hard for the mind not to wander a bit and imagine what the wine might have tasted like had it been made more along the lines of the Costa Russi, especially given this site’s inherent finesse. But back to the present. The 2013 Sorì Tildìn is another drop-dead gorgeous beauty from Gaja.RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2016 The 2013 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn sees fruit sourced from a vineyard site located directly above Costa Russi. This fruit is harvested at 260 meters above sea level, while the latter is located 30 meters lower in elevation. The age of the vines is slightly younger as well, with 45-years-old being the average age. That subtle change in vineyard location does much to shape the generosity and bounty of the bouquet. There is a distinct softness and roundness here that comes forth as dark cherry, pressed blackberry and plum, with tobacco and leather in a supporting role. This Barbaresco stands on solid feet with tight textural richness that comes exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape. Breaking with past tradition, Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is made with a single variety.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Diecianni pulls me close with a hauntingly dark and spicy bouquet, showing red currants complicated by cardamom, ground ginger, exotic curries and dusty rose petals. This is a purely elegant style, seamless and enveloping, with balanced acidity adding lift to a dense wave of ripe red fruits, as pretty inner florals form toward the close. The tannins remain quite firm, yet in harmony with the residual concentration that lingers, as a salty flourish punctuates the wine well. It will be years before the 2013 Diecianni reaches full maturity, yet it will be worth the wait. (Eric Guido)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2015 One of the more overt, voluptuous Zinfandels in the range, the 2013 Giuseppe & Luisa blossoms in the glass with effortless grace. Dried dark cherries, plums, tobacco, leather and smoke. The flavors are dark, bold and racy, yet the 2013 retains its mid-weight personality and plenty of nuance. Layers of flavor build to the creamy, layered finish.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2015 Bold and jammy, but surprisingly light-footed. Aromas of ripe raspberry and spiced cinnamon open to lush flavors of black cherry, grilled anise and pepper. Drink now through 2020. 664 cases made.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2015 The red wine from Knights Valley, the 2013 Proprietary Red Mekerra, is a blend of 53% Cabernet Franc and 47% Merlot, and is my top wine along with the CJ. This is an estate wine from the Melkas’ 10-acre vineyard planted in Knights Valley. Beautiful, chocolaty floral notes with blackcurrants, graphite and earth are all present in this medium to full-bodied, stunningly pure and multilayered wine — 425 cases aged in 60% new French oak for 20 months and bottled unfiltered. This beauty should drink well for at least 20 years.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015 The 2013 Mekerra, a Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, is powerful, dense and concentrated, with a real sense of power and overtness. Black cherry, plum, mocha and graphite are some of the notes that flesh out as the wine shows off its ample, plush personality. This inviting red should offer tremendous pleasure over the next decade or so.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021 Like a dancer, this graceful rosé is lithe and limber yet powered by a sculpted frame, in this case, well-honed acidity and a minerally underpinning. That frame and the satiny mousse support a delicate range of wild strawberry, peach skin and smoked almond flavors with accents of oyster shell, lemon thyme and Mandarin orange peel. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Disgorged September 2019. Drink now through 2031.JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Lots of strawberry, cherry and some rose petal on the nose and palate. It’s full, but not heavy. Very vinous and delicious. Lovely length, too. Fruity and vivid at the end. This is really excellent with real drinkability and intensity. Yet, it remains elegant. 35% chardonnay and 21% pinot meunier, the rest pinot noir. Drink now.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021 Disgorged in September 2019 with five grams per liter dosage, Moët’s 2013 Extra Brut Grand Vintage Rosé offers up notes of red berries, mandarin orange, cherries and hazelnuts, complemented by subtle hints of spice. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and seamless, it’s a sapid, elegantly vinous wine that contains an unusually high proportion of Chardonnay (35%) by the standards of this bottling.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015 The blockbuster 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Artefact was aged 21 months in 100% new French oak and comes completely from the Kenefick Ranch, which is adjacent to the Eisele Vineyard in Calistoga. Opaque purple and full-bodied, it offers up notes of pen ink, graphite, blackberry and cassis as well as some background toasty oak, baking spice box, licorice, and some loamy soil undertones. This big, rich, intense wine should hit its prime in about 4–5 years and last 20 or more. Another long-aging wine, and one with probably 50 years of evolution ahead of it.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2016 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Artefact is a bold, punchy wine that captures the radiance and intensity of Kenefick Ranch without falling into the trap of being excessively heavy, which is always an issue with this warm site in Calistoga. Iron, smoke, plum, cedar and leather build into the intense finish. This is a fairly approachable wine that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring.
