  1. Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58284

    JD95+95–97 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
Due to yields, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes doesn’t include any grapes from the Gallimardes lieu-dit, so this vintage only includes Charbonnière and Esqueirons grapes. As always, it’s 100% Grenache brought up in a mix of concrete tank and foudre. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a brilliant array of blueberries, violets, and pepper, and it’s full-bodied, has a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. I’d put it up with the top handful of wines in the vintage. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
This has power and concentration to the graphite- and smoke-edged black fig and currant flavors, with a steely mineral undercurrent and charred aniseed. In spite of the decadent fruit profile, this has a nice framework and lovely salinity driving freshness and impressive length. A blockbuster red with staying power. Best from 2024 through 2035. 490 cases made, 120 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)

  2. Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Combe des Fous

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58563

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Pumps out heady raspberry, mulberry and blackberry compote notes that keep form and direction, thanks to a roasted apple wood spine and flanking ganache, garrigue and warm earth notes. Seriously grippy finish. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Vaccarèse. Best from 2025 through 2040. 500 cases made, 43 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
    JD94+94–97 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Combe Des Fous is a normal blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Vaccarèse and Cinsault. Beautiful, full-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe black raspberries, violets, ground pepper, lavender, and herbes de Provence all emerge from this gorgeous barrel sample, and it shows the pure, fresh, yet still concentrated style of the vintage brilliantly. 3. Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Grand Cru

    Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58882

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023
Intense and tightly wound, this red is firmly structured and energetic, featuring cherry, strawberry, stone and spice flavors, with the acidity and tannins lending support for future evolution. All the components are there, this just needs a few years to knit together. Best from 2027 through 2045. 258 cases made, 129 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
    VN94+94–96 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is often one of Jadot’s strongest cards amongst the Côte de Beaune reds and this is no different. It has a captivating bouquet with earthy red fruit, graphite, just a faint hint of menthol that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with a dash of white pepper towards the sustained finish. It will require several years in bottle to show its best, but it will be worth waiting for. (Neal Martin)
    RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with notions of raw cocoa, orange rind, warm spices and smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it’s deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, resonant finish. (William Kelley)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58661

    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Beguiling, with a plume of black tea and incense leading off, followed by warmed black cherry reduction, cassis, melted black licorice, warm earth and singed tobacco and garrigue accents. Offers breadth and depth with a seamless feel, capped by a subtle mineral edge that lingers lengthily amid the beautiful fruit. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2024 through 2040. 8,000 cases made, 800 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
    RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022
Proprietor Paul-Vincent Avril expects to bottle 100,000 bottles of something approximating this “final blend,” tasted out of foudre. A blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah and other permitted varieties, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape looked exceptional on this day, offering up scents of framboise and kirsch alongside dried flowers and Asian spices. Full-bodied yet weightless, silky and long, this is special stuff, complex and balanced. (Joe Czerwinski)
    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape showed brilliantly and is certainly one of the stars in the vintage. Based on 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and the rest Syrah and other permitted varieties, it shines for its elegance and purity, offering a wonderful core of red and black fruits, medium to full body, silky, incredibly polished tannins, flawless balance, and already complex notes of flowers, sappy garrigue, Provençal spice. It has the estate’s incredible ability to bring wonderful intensity and richness while staying graceful and seamless. It reminds me slightly of the 2012, possibly the 2006, and while it already offers pleasure, it will evolve for 20+ years in cold cellars. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58708

    RP89+89–91 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022
Notes of rose petals peonies, sweet red fruits and cinnamon introduce the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, a medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety wine that’s lively and seamless, with fine depth at the core and an expansive finish. (William Kelley)
    VN89+89–91 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021
The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, which was taken from tank, has a vivid blackberry and bilberry-scented bouquet with a light marine influence emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine-bored Morey with an appealing strictness towards the finish. Enjoy this over the next decade. (Neal Martin)

  7. Doubleback Estate Reserve

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59738

    RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th May 2023
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve bursts with an impressive nose and was made with the addition of 10% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. There are healthy and seductive aromas on the nose along with succulent black plum, spiced cherry compote and blackberry skin before elegant brown baking spices lift out of the glass with resinous red and purple flowers. Full-bodied, big and juicy, with plenty of oak, the palate offers a fine mineral tension, harmoniously balanced fine-grained tannins and succulent acidity. The wine continues to somersault and uncoil across the bold, long-lingering and generous finish that leaves behind a firm tannic edge. Give this at least two more years in the bottle before opening, but I suspect it will be better with three. Bravo! (Anthony Mueller)
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, June 4, 2023
Notes of plums and blueberries with violets, lilac and dark chocolate. Juicy and fruit-forward with crunchy tannins and a vivid, blue-fruited finish. Hints of spices and cocoa to close. Drink now. (James Suckling)

  8. Flor de Pingus

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59671

    RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jan 2023
There is around 20% new oak in the 2020 Flor de Pingus, and because it has a little younger vines (there was a land-consolidation project in La Horra in 2006!), there’ll be some Garnacha starting in 2021 and maybe some oak vats for aging too. All this shows the direction, where he found structure and volume in the palate, with textured tannins. It’s harmonious and elegant, aromatic and floral, perfumed and showy, with contained ripeness and around 14% alcohol. The palate is quite powerful, with abundant but fine tannins. 110,000 bottles were filled in July 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2023
Plush in texture and elegant overall, with a fresh spine of acidity enlivening black plum reduction and crushed black cherry fruit, violet and tobacco, vanilla and mineral accents as they wrap around a firm core of fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2030. 9,000 cases made. (Alison Napjus)

  9. Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59223

    RP95+95–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022
Beaucastel’s 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape is shaping up as a blend of 30% each Grenache and Mourvèdre, with 10% each Counoise and Syrah, plus 20% other permitted varieties, including a healthy proportion of white grapes. Complex and red-fruited, with hints of flowers and garrigue, it’s expansive and richly textured on the palate, finishing long and silky. (Joe Czerwinski)
    JD94+94–96 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape was scheduled to be bottled the week after this tasting, and it’s the usual blend of 35% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache, and the rest Syrah, Counoise, and other permitted varieties. While the estate compares this to their 2016, it reminds me slightly of their 1990 and has a wonderful perfume of red, blue, and black fruits, as well as sappy garrigue, saddle leather, and ground pepper. It’s beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, has a good sense of freshness, and fine tannins, as well as a tight, focused style on the palate that bodes well for longevity. It deserves 7–8 years of bottle age and should be long-lived. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60025

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023
The 2020 Frappato Vino di Contrada BB shows a slightly more saturated hue with dark fruit flavors of black cherry and fresh plum. I like the impeccable balance of the BB (from the Contrada Bombolieri with sandy soils and stones), which is more accessible and primary next to the Contrada PT and without the earthy overtones you get in the Contrada FL. RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023
The Arianna Occhipinti 2020 Frappato Vino di Contrada PT (made with old vine fruit in the Contrada Pettineo) has a unique bouquet that stands apart from the other wines in this series, especially in this warm and sunny vintage. There is a hint of purple plum, but the aromas are mostly focused on red fruit flavors with cassis and fresh cherry. I love the lively, punchy approach of this vibrant wine. It feels very much alive. 12. Sassicaia

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60472

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The 2020 Sassicaia Is a bold, rapturous wine. Dark, fleshy and expansive on the palate, the 2020 offers up scents of blackberry jam, gravel, spice, new leather, licorice and crème de cassis. Potent tannins are nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. Sassicaia is never a huge wine, the 2020 does seem to have an extra dimension of textural intensity. It’s an intensity that is hugely appealing. (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
Complex aromas and flavors of black currant, blackberry, iron, sweet tobacco and Mediterranean herbs are the hallmarks of this elegant, tensile red, which is already revealing plenty, yet still feels reserved, as though there were many more facets to be discovered. Superb harmony, freshness and a long aftertaste prevail. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2045. 23,300 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, March 6, 2023
A very perfumed Sassicaia on the nose with forest floor, citrus and deep dark fruits. Blackcurrants. Cedar and black tea. Some balsamic. Pine needles. Full and very succulent. Really long, structured and complete. Tangy and energetic with a linear line of fresh tannins and acidity. Very Sassicaia throughout. 85% cabernet sauvignon and the rest is cabernet franc. Very attractive now in a youthful and vibrant way, but this will be better in three to four years. Try after 2027. (James Suckling)
    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Jan 2023
The Tenuta San Guido 2020 Bolgheri Sassicaia speaks to those who seek a more voluptuous, opulent and, ultimately, more accessible wine. This vintage is a precise reflection of Coastal Tuscany, as opposed to a more generic “Tuscan” wine from elsewhere in this large central Italian region. You taste the ripeness and soft fruit weight that comes from a coastal appellation with especially bright luminosity and warm Mediterranean offshore breezes. Sassicaia from the cool vintages is a famously reticent or withholding wine in its earliest years, requiring a long lead time before it eases into an ideal drinking window. That’s definitely not the case here. This wine is beautiful and compelling straight out of the gate, showing a lovely mix of dark fruit, oak spice, balanced freshness, textural richness, soft tannins and an expertly contained 14% alcohol content. The wine’s immediate character is what distinguishes this vintage, and I wouldn’t get too fussed by exaggerated cellar-aging ambitions. The wine awards sheer pleasure in its current form, with dazzling primary fruit and soaring intensity over the near and medium term. (Monica Larner)

  13. Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Sanctus Sanctorum

    2020 / 1.5 L. | Item#58559

    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Very alluring, and while densely packed, this is very silky and refined in feel. Presents perfumed raspberry, cherry and plum puree notes laced with sandalwood, incense and rooibos tea. Flirts with exotic as the fruit hangs on the finish, where a sweet wood spice hint echoes late. Approachable for its beguiling nature, but there’s no rush at all. Drink now through 2040. 800 cases made, 200 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
    JD96+96–98 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
I’d wager a candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Sanctus Sanctorum is 100% Grenache from a single parcel of old vines in the La Crau lieu-dit that’s still resting in demi-muids. Incredible Provençal notes of kirsch liqueur, blackberries, ground herbs, lavender, and garrigue all emerge from the glass. This beauty is like liquid Provence in a bottle! Full-bodied, rich, structured, and balanced, certainly don’t miss a chance to try this wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58562

    SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Boasts bitter plum, raspberry and black cherry reduction notes that have a lively savory, garrigue streak, while grippy-edged tar, tobacco and ganache notes pepper the finish. Muscular and dense but the cut is there, and the fruit core takes a late encore for good measure. Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2025 through 2040. 500 cases made, 56 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
    JD95+95–97+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021
As always, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Deus-Ex Machina (60/40 Grenache and Mourvèdre) is a more powerful, mineral-laced wine, offering a fabulous nose of cassis, blackcurrants, ground pepper, Provençal herbs, and cured meats. This full-bodied, concentrated 2020 has incredible purity of fruit, silky yet building tannins, and a great finish. It should round into form with just short-term cellaring and have two decades of longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)
