  1. Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#56056

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jul 2021
The regional blend 2020 Camins del Priorat, produced with grapes from 101 plots from eight villages in Priorat, is a blend of 55% Garnacha, 15% Syrah, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 8% Cariñena, higher in Garnacha and lower in Cariñena, like in the majority of 2019s. That gives the wines freshness and elegance, vivacity and fluidity. It fermented with the indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel, oak and concrete vats and matured in barrel and oak vats for four months. This is more Priorat than any of the vintages of Camins; in reality, nobody is planting French varieties anymore and many are regrafting their vines, so in the future, the tendency could be toward more Garnacha and Cariñena in this wine. This is a very drinkable version of Camins, less dense than the 2019, from a year that was cooler with just an herbal hint. The mouthfeel is velvety with great freshness and very fine tannins. This has to be the finest Camins to date, different from previous years; it should be a commercial success. 226,000 bottles were produced. 2020 was their earliest harvest ever. (Luis Gutiérrez)

  2. Clos i Terrasses Laurel

    Priorat Red Wine
    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#58663

    RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
The 2019 Laurel is quite closed and shows serious and shy. It’s made with all the grapes that are not used for Clos Erasmus—young vines, the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon (no more than 5%), mostly Garnacha and some 15% Syrah. The wine matured mostly in 2,000-liter oak vats, concrete and some barrels (she’s abandoning the tinaja). It’s 15% alcohol but has very good freshness. The wine is round and powerful but very harmonious and with good freshness. It’s medium to full-bodied and nicely textured, with abundant, glossy tannins and fantastic balance. This is both powerful and elegant. It slowly opens up in the glass to ripe berries, spice and herbs and a touch of smoke. 18,700 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

  5. Black Slate Gratallops

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#55557

    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/22/2021
A blend of 64% Grenache, 27% Carignan and 9% Syrah, the 2019 Black Slate Gratallops Vi De Vila comes from one of the warmer regions in the Priorat. Gorgeous black raspberries, liquid violets, garrigue, chalky minerality, and hints of rose petal all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured, with ultra-fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. With a liquid rock-like minerality that’s something to behold, this gorgeous, elegant wine is going to evolve for 10–12 years with no issues. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  6. Alvaro Palacios Finca Dofí

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#56179

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jul 2021
The single-vineyard red 2019 Finca Dofí comes from the 14 hectares of vines planted across three parajes (lieu-dits) in Gratallops. This year, it’s 87% Garnacha, 12% Cariñena and 1% white grapes (Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo. It fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in large oak barrels (bocoyes and foudres) for 14 months. It’s classy, elegant and fresh with very clean aromas and flavors, not lacking concentration or power. There is superb definition and purity here; it has to be the finest and most elegant Dofí to date. It has finer tannins and more elegance than La Baixada this year. The 2018 was fragrant and this has more clout but superb balance. These two vintages have been great for Dofí. I still remember the 2005, hard as nails then and what the wine is now — spherical and velvety. Dofí on a roll… It was bottled in May 2021, and 21,146 bottles were produced.
    JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, February 3, 2022
Cracked cloves and white pepper with dark fruit and iron. Perfumed and subtle. It’s full-bodied with a vertical layer of very fine tannins that give a creamy and round texture that turns almost powdery. Flavorful finish, yet refined. Give this time to open. Try after 2023.

  7. Alvaro Palacios Finca Dofí

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58699

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
The single-vineyard 2020 Finca Dofí comes from the 14 hectares of vines planted across three parajes (lieu-dits) in Gratallops, a blend of 83% Garnacha, 12% Cariñena, 4% Picapoll—a grape with low sugar and high acidity (good for climate change) that he regrafted some four years ago—and 1% white grapes: Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo, all fermented in oak vats with 10% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in large oak barrels (bocoyes and foudres) for 15 months. It has good ripeness, 14.5% alcohol and a soft texture with nice balance, good freshness and fine tannins. 18,778 bottles and some other larger and smaller formats produced. It was bottled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

What a charming nose, with scented blueberries, crushed violets, red berries, wild herbs and a hint of dark olive. Juicy and pristinely dry and honest on the medium-to full-bodied palate, rounded by ultra-fine tannins, which are silky and powdery. Quite effortless and naturally long. Drink now or hold.

  8. Alvaro Palacios Gratallops

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#52726

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
The red “vi de vila” (village wine) 2017 Gratallops is a blend of 80% Garnacha, 19% Cariñena and 1% white grapes that fermented crushed and destemmed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak bocoyes and foudres for 15 months. This is the wine that surprised me the most when they were poured and I first put my nose in the glass. It feels floral, aromatic, clean, open and expressive like no other Gratallops that I remember. It seems quite marked by the Garnacha, with notes of Mediterranean herbs, red berries and fennel. For Álvaro Palacios, the wines from Gratallops have to have ripeness, not be very dark in color, with brightness, red rather than black fruit, not heavy, with the textured sensation of the slate soils. However, not all wines show the character of the village, as some people are still using foreign varieties, sometimes picking overripe, extracting too much and using too much oak, which hides the character of the wines. The wines have to be transparent. This Gratallops could very much represent the character of the place. All of the 2017s have very low pH, which is quite remarkable for the extremely warm and dry year. This has to be among the best Gratallops to date. 18,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2019.

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#58797

    RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
There were Mediterranean notes of aromatic herbs, aniseed and fennel in the nose of the 2020 Gratallops, the village wine that this year changes to a Burgundy bottle. It’s a blend of 87% Garnacha, 12% Cariñena and 1% white grapes, Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and PX. It has good, contained ripeness and 14.5% alcohol with good freshness and moderate acidity. They used 15% full clusters for the fermentation, which was increased in 2021. 10,522 bottles and some larger formats were filled in April 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

  11. Bodegas Mas Alta Els Pics

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#60070

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
There’s more finesse in the 2020 Els Pics, which has upfront berry fruit and integrated spice and smoke in the back. It was produced with 60% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena, 5% Merlot and 5% Syrah and matured in oak and concrete. The palate is medium to full-bodied with fine, nice ripe tannins and good balance, combining power and elegance. 2020 was a challenging year of low yields and concentration and it took a lot of work to achieve finesse. 66,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

    JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/22/2021
Based largely on Carignan, with 30% Garnacha and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Priorat has a big, smoky nose of mulled red and black fruits, graphite, flowers, and new leather. This carries to a medium to full-bodied wine with terrific tannins (especially for Carignan), a balanced, elegant texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
It’s always interesting to taste two vintages of the same wine side by side. 2020 was a heterogeneous year with ups and downs, as it was challenging, and the wines reflect the work in the vineyard in a difficult time during the pandemic. The 2020 Cirerets, 60% Garnacha and 40% Cariñena, shows clean aromas and flavors, definition and elegance within the powerful, ripe and concentrated style from Priorat and the winery. 17,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Apr 2018
I tasted two vintages of the entry-level red, the youngest of which was the 2016 Ritme Negre, which is young and fleshy, with good acidity and freshness. It’s approachable, tasty and easy to drink. It’s mostly Cariñena with 3% Garnacha. 58,644 bottles produced.
