ST9292 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2012 Light yellow. Candied citrus fruits, white flowers and chalky minerals on the fragrant nose. Juicy, penetrating and pure, offering lively orange and lemon zest flavors with suggestions of honeysuckle and ginger. Shows a strong mineral quality on the penetrating finish, which features a hint of toasted almond. The bottling that I reviewed last year had no disgorgement date on the back label but this one does.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2011 An open-knit texture is focused by firm acidity while rich notes of leesy bread dough and smoky roast nut add depth to flavors of kumquat, tangy apple, white peach and lemon peel, with an aromatic finish. Disgorged January 2010. Drink now through 2019. 1,500 cases made.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2007 Inviting nose of crushed plum and blueberry fruit, along with hints of molasses, mocha and spice. Nice brambly finish stays fresh. Like a solid Banyuls. Grenache. Drink now through 2008. 2,000 cases made.
ST94+94+ pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2006 Full yellow. Captivating aromas of orange peel, minerals and honey, with sweaty suggestions of vineyard peach and cumin. Wonderfully bracing and precise, with great penetration and cut to its flavors of mandarin orange, powdered stone and graphite. The tactile finish suggests dusty dry extract more than it does tannins. A very Germanic style of late-harvest wine, with an exhilarating purity to its botrytis and an impression of strong tartaric acidity. This is 9% alcohol, with 97 grams of residual sugar.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2006 Fresh, even racy, with grapefruit, lemon and honey aromas and flavors matched to an elegant profile. Still tightly wound, with a vivid structure. Needs time to open and gain complexity. Best from 2009 through 2020. 300 cases made.
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2008 Offers aromas of blackberry, licorice and tar. Intense and full-bodied, with a wonderful concentration of fruit, supersilky tannins and a complex finish of pure fruit and Indian spices. Superb for the vintage. Best after 2012.RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Dec 2007 The 2004 Barolo La Serra reveals a generous personality in its dark red fruit with notable depth and richness that carries through to the persistent, sweet finish. With air, floral notes develop to round out this particularly multi-dimensional, full-bodied and beautiful La Serra. 2004 is a great vintage for this wine, which can sometimes be austere. Anticipated maturity: 2009–2022.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Dec 2006 An impressive new offering is the 580-case 2004 Vagabond, a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged completely in French oak, it boasts a dense ruby/purple hue, a big, sweet, blackberry, flower, pepper, coffee, and chocolate-scented bouquet, full body, and a soft, expansive style. Drink it over the next 7–8 years.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2007 Shows wonderful intensity and purity of fruit, with spicy, peppery blackberry and wild berry flavors and hazelnut and cedar notes. Deftly balanced and persistent on the finish, gaining complexity. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2011.
