VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 The NV Prosecco Extra Dry is understated with a dusty display of white flowers, chamomile, crushed stone and pear. It’s pleasantly sweet and creamy, contrasted by brisk acids with notes of ripe apple and hints of spice. Floral nuances linger long through the perfectly fresh finale. (Eric Guido)Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. They're made by a top producer and comparable to wines at twice the cost.
JS90+90–91 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, June 2, 2022 A nicely polished and relatively soft red with ripe tannins and purple fruit. It’s medium-bodied. Fresh at the end. Nicely done.JD87+87–89 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 6/4/2021 The 2020 Château Talmont is another solid Bordeaux offering medium to full-bodied richness as well as impressive cassis and black raspberry fruits intermixed with hints of flowers, violets, and graphite. It has some grippy tannins, but I like the overall balance as well as the length on the finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN86+86–88 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2021 The 2020 Talmont offers good up-front intensity in its jammy dark fruit, chocolate and dried herbs. There is good depth and persistence, but hard tannins and slight vegetal undertones are a bit distracting today. VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2019 Glimmering red. Spice-accented red fruit and rose oil on the nose, along with notes of white pepper, allspice and musky earth. Juicy and focused in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and red berry flavors with a touch of medicinal bitterness. Turns sweeter with air and shows very good energy on the persistent finish, which is firmed by dusty, fine-grained tannins that fold smoothly into the wine’s fruit.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. VN9191 pts. - Vinous - May 2023 A blend of musky dried peaches and apricot offset by savory herbs wafts up from the 2022 Il Rosé di Casanova. It’s zesty and wickedly fresh, with vibrant acidity and wild citrus notes that excite the senses. The 2022 finishes floral and crisp, showcasing nectarine hints. Il Rose di Casanova is a blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Prugnolo Gentile. (Eric Guido)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with dusty rose, strawberries and hints of black tea. It’s soft in feel, with a twang of tangerine that gives way to tart cherries and inner cinnamon and clove. This remains nicely energetic while coming across as potent, and it lingers incredibly long. Caparzo found an excellent balance in 2020, and I love the exotic nuances found within. Very nice. (Eric Guido)
WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22 With its bright magenta color, bountiful dark berry flavors and zippy acidity, this wine is bouncy and joyful from start to finish. It offers good concentration and verve while avoiding the excessive alcohol that sometimes marks this variety, making it an excellent partner for a wide range of dishes.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 The 2021 Barbera d’Alba is an explosion of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and mocha. A healthy dollop of whole clusters (30%) adds an element of savoriness that takes a little getting used to, as it is not often seen in Barbera. Vinification and aging in cement yields a juicy Barbera in which the fruit is front and center. (Antonio Galloni)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2022 The 2020 Malbec Chakana Estate Selection (from Paraje Altamira & Gualtallary, Uco Valley) was a third aged in used barrels and a third in foudres. A mild purple hue. The nose presents gentle notes of fresh plum, violets and hints of thyme over a pleasant bed of oak. Indulgent with slightly reactive tannins, the flow is juicy and fairly compact. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022 The 2019 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva is dark and moody in the glass, opening slow with a smoldering mix of red currants, grilled herbs and flowery underbrush. It’s texturally deep and pliant, showcasing polished ripe red and hints of blue fruit that are carried effortlessly across a core of juicy acidity. The 2019 tapers off with a subtle tug of fine tannin and sweet raspberry tones that leave a lasting impression. (Eric Guido)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - May 2023 The 2022 Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo seduces with its perfumed blend of crushed cherries and strawberries, complemented by rhubarb, violets and sweet smoke. It’s racy and sleek, built on energy, with a mineral core that grips the palate. A cascade of wild berries is excited by tantalizing acidity. This finishes dramatically long, lightly structured and full of zesty tension as salty nuances combine with tart red fruits and hints of sour citrus. The 2022 takes Cerasuolo to a whole new level. This is more a red than a Rosé, and with a bouquet to match. (Eric Guido)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2019 Lagone is a soft, fruity Maremma red to drink now and over the next handful of years. A burst of sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and new leather lends energy to this tasty, mid-weight red. Best of all, the 2019 should be a terrific value. (Antonio Galloni)
JD93+93–96 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023 The 2019 Barolo Berri was tasted from two barrels, one of which utilized whole bunches in the fermentation. While both offered freshness and purity, the second barrel offered more significant spice in its profile, with more depth of fruit, and is firmly structured at this stage. The components are compelling and should make for a wonderful finished blend in a few years’ time. (Audrey Frick)VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2019 Barolo Berri is tightly wound and austere in the early going. Crushed red berry fruit, iron, dried herbs and white pepper give the Berri a striking aromatic top register. The tannins are a bit nervy, though, so a few years in bottle are warranted. Frost decimated the crop at Torriglione, which is why this wine (typically the Barolo del Comune di La Morra) is Berri in 2019. To be exact, there is 4% Torriglione, as that was the wine used for topping. (Antonio Galloni)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022 The 2021 Roero Arneis is done in a fairly rich style for Arneis. Lemon confit, white flowers, tangerine peel, mint and light tropical overtones all grace this open-knit, inviting Arneis from Malvirà. This is very nicely done. (Antonio Galloni)
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023 The 2021 Chianti Biskero bursts from the glass with a fruit-forward mix of raspberry, black cherries and autumnal spice. This is plush in feel; vibrant acidity and ripe red berry fruits create an energetic and jovial expression. It leaves just a touch of sweet tannins while tapering off long yet playful in style. This may be a no-frills style of Chianti, but it’s also full of character. The Biskero is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 5% Mammolo, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Merlot. (Eric Guido)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022 The 2021 Chablis Au Dessus des Carrières comes from two parcels planted mainly in the seventies. Vibrant again on the nose, this offers enticing scents of yellow plum, flint and subtle petrichor scents that unfurl in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine depth, perhaps a little more linear than the Vieilles Vignes with a very focused finish. Excellent. Chablis like a Swiss watch! (Neal Martin)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 The 2020 Saint-Bris Exogyra Virgula, which was taken from tank, has a light apple blossom bouquet with a lovely lemon thyme scent. The palate is fresh, vibrant and very saline, delivering good density and flavors of green apple mixed with pear toward the finish. Superb. (Neal Martin)
