Rich and intense yet silky textured and refined on the concentrated palate, this is a juicy, highly elegant, perfectly balanced, persistently salty and mouth-salivating Haut-Lieu with very fine tannins and a long, firm and pretty powerful but elegant and complex finish. Still more stringent than the Le Mont Demi-Sec in the beginning, but after aeration, this is not just a greatly finessed Chenin but one of the finest Haut-Lieu’s I have tasted from Huet. Tasted as a tank sample in April 2021. (Stephan Reinhardt)VN95+95–97 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021 Pear and pineapple aromas meet fine, floral characters in the 2020 Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu. While this wine’s edges are rounded, it is refined and elegant. It has a sense of density on the mid-palate, but it’s not about weight or richness despite its demi-sec status. The wine has an intensity and a structured core reflecting the naturally low yields here. While there is 20g/L of residual sugar, a sense of freshness and underlying urgency pulls this wine through, leaving an off-dry impression. Unfinished sample. (Rebecca Gibb MW)

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Jul 2021 From south-facing slopes on the schistous soils of the Loire tributary, the 2018 Coteaux du Layon Moelleux Layon shows a radiant orange color and a brilliant, absolutely beautiful and elegant nose of perfectly ripe and stewed apricots intertwined with fresh, spicy-mineral and herbal notes as well as wax notes. Smooth and delicate on the palate, this is a seamless, perfectly balanced moelleux with fine, crystalline acidity and fully ripe and sweet, highly elegant and refined fruit. The finish is sensationally long and stimulating. This is a great Layon to have for its own, with cheese or an apricot tart. 11.5% alcohol. Tasted in June 2021. This stretches out midpalate, with great tension between acidity and sweetness, getting dryer on the finish. A very light hint of dried apricot lingers on the aftertaste. Round and refined yet still with a pretty firm tannin structure, this is a rich and powerful yet elegant and persistently salty Chenin with tension, grip and a sustainable, highly promising finish. The 2020 Clos du Bourg pairs juiciness with finesse and purity with complexity. Tasted as a tank sample shortly before bottling in April 2021.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021 This alluring white imparts both elegance and drive, with ginger, quince and marzipan notes edged with heather, mineral and peach accents. VN97+97–98 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021 The 2020 Clos du Bourg Première Trie comes from a warm parcel and a warm vintage, meaning that the grapes were a little quicker to ripen than the norm — but it’s still outstanding. A richly, slightly smoky example with pineapple, orange, florals and agave nectar. Huge intensity and lots of sweet fruit (90g/L), yet it doesn’t become lush or heavy, the acidity still making your mouth water in spite of that sucrosity. There’s a fine chalky texture that lingers on the long finish. While it’s already a delight to encounter now, the combination of acidity and sweetness means this can go on and on. Tasted over three days as an unfinished sample, it was still fresh as a daisy. While it didn’t elicit the perfect 100-point goosebumps, there’s not a lot to fault here.SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021 This lush, refined wine boasts lots of complexity, with pineapple chutney, yellow fig paste, verbena and heather notes that are edged with crystalized ginger, mango, cardamom and mineral elements. Beautiful and enticing. Drink now through 2040. 330 cases made.RP96+96–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th May 2021 The white-golden colored 2020 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie shows CO2 pearls in the glass, and it indeed opens somewhat reductive, asking for a Burgundy glass. Yet even though the 2020 Clos du Bourg asks for patience, it already indicates a terribly concentrated bouquet of lemon chutney and humid chalk. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and juicy, very elegant and generous Chenin from this ancient six-hectare grand cru (one of the oldest in France, as the domaine assures). It is immediately attractive, stimulatingly piquant and nourishes hope for a great future. The potential is doubtlessly there, but 7–10 years of our patience is presumed. Tasted as a sample in May 2021.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2017 Gorgeous crystallized ginger, dried quince, glazed pear and warm persimmon notes are seamlessly interwoven here, gliding through a lengthy finish that picks up a lilting green tea accent. Frankly off-dry but wonderfully pure. Drink now through 2035. 700 cases made.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021 It might be delicate but the 2020 Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux is also rather succulent, coating the mouth with its sweet embrace. A combination of white flowers and nectarine creates an appealing perfume. There’s a sense of energy that runs through the wine, providing a sense of direction and purpose. The core of sweetness (50–60g/L) doesn’t tip over into lushness but is held together by its acidity and structure. You wouldn’t guess this is sweet from the nose, as the bouquet is precise and fresh. Round and mellow but also refined and elegant on the palate, with a stimulating mineral freshness and lingering salinity and piquancy, this is a gorgeous, very delicate and perfectly balanced Vouvray to drink even young, but as experience tells me, this Chenin Blanc from the now 15-hectare Ur vineyard of Domaine Huet can also be aged for decades, even if the wine is not really dramatic in all its pristine beauty. Tasted as final sample in May 2021.
