  4. Canava Chrissou Tselepos Santorini Nykteri

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57245

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
The 2018 Nikteri Canava Chrissou is all Assyrtiko aged for six months in used foudres. It comes in at 14.6% alcohol. This is sourced from centenarian vines, some of whose grapes go into the Laoudia bottling, but these are the ones picked at the highest Brix. Rich, ripe and remarkably delicious, this is a rather balanced Nikteri — many are not — with a big and flavorful finish. It does show off a little wood, but not too much. As it airs and warms, it does also remind you that it is a Nikteri — with that very ripe fruit profile. It coats the palate, delivering waves of flavor. This is impressive in its big and fruit-forward style. It seems positioned to age well. We’ll see in time. There were just 1,500 bottles produced.

  5. Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Elisenberger Riesling Spätlese

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#50309

    RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2019
Sourced from old vines, the 2018 Elisenberger Riesling Spätlese was harvested in the third week of October as the very last "regular" wine (so 3.5 weeks after the Kabinett). It is based on completely healthy fruit and was vinified entirely in traditional fuders. Offering a deep and flinty bouquet, this is a lush, elegant, highly refined and stimulating Spätlese with a salty-piquant finish. Tasted from the cask in March 2019.

  6. Canava Chrissou Tselepos Santorini Laoudia

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#52856

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2020
The 2018 Santorini (Canava Chrissou) Laoudia Single Vineyard, part of the Louros district, is an Assyrtiko aged on the lees in 500-liter clay amphorae for 10 months. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol, 2.9 grams of residual sugar and 6.3 grams of total acidity. This is all sourced from centenarian vines. If you’re wondering why to trade up from the Vielles Vignes this issue, there are a few reasons, although I would want some of each. It may be mostly a matter of personal taste, but this is a bit richer and more concentrated. It certainly has a more unctuous feel on the palate. It lacks the purity and fresh feel of the Vielles Vignes, though, and it is not quite as elegant. Those are all relative judgments — this holds its balance very well. The method of vinification certainly affects this as well, but it mostly avoids the clay taste that some amphora wines can show too heavily. There is a long and textured finish. While there are pros and cons, not to mention issues of personal taste, to me, this is a somewhat better wine. At the least, it is a bit more interesting and nuanced. It was better the next day too. I would like to see some evidence of it developing in the bottle, though. To date, that has been mostly speculation, but it is worth leaning up for the moment. We’ll take the aging curve in stages. There were just 2,400 bottles produced.

  8. Domaine Belargus Layon

    Coteaux-du-Layon Moelleux
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#58442

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Jul 2021
From south-facing slopes on the schistous soils of the Loire tributary, the 2018 Coteaux du Layon Moelleux Layon shows a radiant orange color and a brilliant, absolutely beautiful and elegant nose of perfectly ripe and stewed apricots intertwined with fresh, spicy-mineral and herbal notes as well as wax notes. Smooth and delicate on the palate, this is a seamless, perfectly balanced moelleux with fine, crystalline acidity and fully ripe and sweet, highly elegant and refined fruit. The finish is sensationally long and stimulating. This is a great Layon to have for its own, with cheese or an apricot tart. 11.5% alcohol. Tasted in June 2021. (Stephan Reinhardt)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2020
Light gold in color, with a racy, pure and focused core of glazed apple, ginger and melon, framed by chamomile and anise. This stretches out midpalate, with great tension between acidity and sweetness, getting dryer on the finish. A very light hint of dried apricot lingers on the aftertaste. Drink now through 2035. 2,003 cases made. (Aleksandar Zecevic)

    RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Jan 2020
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières was showing well, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, citrus oil, nutmeg and warm pastry, followed by a medium to full-bodied, racy and nicely defined palate that’s long and intense.

  10. E. Guigal Ex-Voto Ermitage Blanc

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57947

    JD100100 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/19/2020
Built for the long haul, the 2018 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc is a majestic, noble white that could only come from this incredible, south-facing hillside in Hermitage. Revealing a light gold hue as well as notes of quince, honeyed minerality, toasted spices, orange marmalade, and spring flowers, this deep, rich, and full-bodied white has absorbed just about every trace of its oak élevage and has a concentrated, rich, yet focused and lengthy style. This cuvée had a more oaky, opulent style in the past, but today it comes across as a much more pure, elegant wine while not giving an inch with regard to density, texture, and concentration. As with just about every top Hermitage Blanc today, this offers plenty of immediate pleasure with its pure, fresh, mineral-laced style. Don’t discount how much pleasure these wines can offer in their youth and always ignore the “always too young” crowd. This 2018 is going to evolve gracefully and drink brilliantly for 5–7 years, then (maybe) go into a closed, almost oxidative stage, only to emerge after 5–7 years and evolve for decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 10th Feb 2022
The last time I saw the 2018 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc, it came across as opulent and fruit-forward. Now that it’s in bottle (and scheduled to be released in February 2022), it’s less tropical, showing more restraint and (perhaps) greater aging potential. Hints of toasted grain, lime custard and scorched lemon zest appear on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is rich, delivering notes of toasted marshmallow and a heavily textured, slightly coarse texture, but finishes long.

  14. Gilbert Picq & ses Fils Chablis Premier Cru Vaucoupin

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#52404

    VN91+91–93 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2018 Chablis Vaucoupin Premier Cru is a sensual, open-knit wine. A bit shy at first, it opens up beautifully in the mid-palate and finish, with striking layers of fruit that give the wine its racy, voluptuous feel. Tropical fruit, pastry, vanillin and sweet spice give the 2018 a lot of exotic character. This is an ample, creamy and open-knit wine with terrific persistence and tons of class; it is very refined for the year.
