Shop the Best Wines from Sonoma County

Sonoma County and Napa Valley are the most prestigious wine regions in California, with Sonoma County wines known for being more laid-back than their Napa counterparts. That's not to say that Sonoma County wines aren't wonderfully sophisticated, because they are.

Sonoma's cool, coastal climate makes much of it ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but sharp, robust Zinfandels can also be produced in areas like Dry Creek Valley. Among the more famous Sonoma County wine producers are Benziger, Deloach, Gallo Family Vineyards and Simi Winery.

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#57655

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022
Deeply structured and briary, with a mix of red and black fruit accented by licorice, dill and savory underbrush flavors. Finishes with medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan, Petite Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 8,900 cases made.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2020 Geyserville is quite soft in this vintage. Bright red-fleshed fruit, crushed flowers, cedar, spice and sweet pipe tobacco all grace this mid-weight edition of Geyserville. All things considered, the 2020 is nicely done.

  4. Bedrock Pagani Ranch Heritage

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#58795

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2021 Pagani Ranch is a beautiful, expressive wine from one of Sonoma Valley’s great sites. Rich, pliant and explosive, the 2021 possesses captivating inner perfume, vivid fruit and exceptional balance. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice, mocha and a kiss of new oak all race across the palate. An alluring, captivating wine, the Pagani Ranch is total sensuality. As good as the 2021 is—and it is very good—it could have been legendary. That is especially evident when looking at wines from Bedrock and Old Hill, two of the other grand crus of this stretch of vineyards in Sonoma Valley. Unfortunately, this is the last Pagani Ranch for Bedrock. (Antonio Galloni)

  5. Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#55977

    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
The deep purple/ruby-hued 2019 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch comes from a site in the Sonoma Valley and is 90% Zinfandel, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Alicante Bouschet. Red plums, blueberries, blood orange, and candied violet notes all emerge from this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied and offers an ultra-fine texture, silky tannins, and a great finish. This is one impressive, satisfying Zinfandel to enjoy over the coming 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022
Deeply structured but not weighty, showing black raspberry and blueberry flavors laced with bittersweet chocolate, green peppercorns and fruitcake spices that build tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2030. 3,990 cases made. (Tim Fish)

  6. Bedrock Old Hill Ranch Heritage

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59598

    VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2021 Old Hill Heritage Wine is sensational. What a wine. Deep and beautifully layered, the 2021 is seamless, nuanced and just insanely complete from the very first taste. Absolutely nothing is out of place. Yields were very low, which seems to have simply concentrated the black cherry and plum flavors and ripened the tannins perfectly, all while maintaining the bright acid profile that is such a signature of this historic field blend site. The 2021 is one of the very finest wines I have tasted from Bedrock. It is destined to become a classic. (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2023
Potent yet detailed, layered with deep blackberry, grilled anise, pepper, clove and other dusky spices that build power and richness toward broad-shouldered tannins. Approachable now but will be better in a few years. Zinfandel, Grenache, Mataro, Syrah, Petit Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. Best from 2024 through 2031. (Tim Fish)

  8. Ridge Geyserville

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#51874

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - May 21, 2020
A wine that always delivers, the 2018 Geyserville from Ridge comes all from a single vineyard in the Alexander Valley and checks in as 68% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah, and the rest Alicante Bouschet. It has a big, cedary bouquet of red and black plums, sandalwood, potpourri, and Asian spices that develops and fills out nicely with time in the glass. This carries to a more medium-bodied Zinfandel that has wonderful purity of fruit, present yet ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great, great finish. This structured yet ethereal example of this cuvée ranks with the finest vintages to date. Drink it any time over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2020
Robust yet brooding, with multilayered black plum, licorice and Asian five-spice powder flavors that build richness toward big, briary tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. Best from 2022 through 2030. 10,500 cases made.

  9. Bedrock Bedrock Vineyard Heritage

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#58794

    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2021 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a great expression of this site. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are front and center. This dark, virile Zinfandel-based field blend packs a serious punch. There’s plenty of detail and nuance behind all of that intensity. The 2021 is a big wine, but also less monolithic than some previous editions. There’s a bit more whole cluster in the 2021 than in the past, so perhaps that explains the wine’s nuance. The 2021 is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from the Bedrock vineyard, and I say that as someone who is not yet fully convinced of the potential here. (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2023
Bold and brooding, this Zin-based blend is a cornucopia of aromas and flavors, with deep blackberry, smoky anise, black pepper, clove and other dusky spice notes that build tension and structure toward broad-shouldered tannins. Hands off for now. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Best from 2024 through 2032. 800 cases made. (Tim Fish)

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#56030

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
The medium ruby colored 2019 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley boasts an alluring mélange of spicy red and black cherries and berries on the nose, plus touches of cracked pepper, potpourri, aniseed and underbrush. The palate is full-bodied, spicy and layered, with grainy tannins and juicy acidity highlighting the spicy accents on the long finish. (Erin Brooks)
    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2021
From a selection of grower vineyards and blended with 15% Petite Sirah, this is a widely accessible and desirable wine that shows notes of crushed rock and dried herb. Concentrated flavors of blackberry and cherry combine well to offer richness and plenty of reward. (Virginie Boone)

  11. Bedrock Monte Rosso Vineyard Zinfandel

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#46212

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Zinfandel Monte Rosso features baked berries, cherry cordial, spice cake and potpourri on the nose with touches of mandarin peel and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, refreshingly tart and with a chewy backbone, it is wonderfully opulent and spicy on the palate with a long, earthy finish.
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2018
The 2016 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard is utterly sublime. Lifted, aromatically precise and nuanced, the 2016 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard is fabulous. Rose petal, blood orange, cranberry and raspberry notes give the Monte Rosso striking aromatic presence and brightness. Unfortunately, Bedrock, like all the other wineries that purchased grapes at Monte Rosso, no longer have access to the fruit off this historic ranch. Morgan Peterson and Chris Cottrell certainly chose a strong vintage as their last. The 2016 is sublime.
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2018
Comes at you like a surly teenager but wins you over with power and personality. Cracked pepper and licorice aromas lead to brooding blackberry, orange zest and bay leaf flavors that finish with big but polished tannins. Best from 2019 through 2026. 300 cases made.

  12. Carlisle Russian River Valley Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#57369

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is a gorgeous, wonderfully complete wine that shows why this site is so highly regarded. Red berry fruit, rose petal, leather, blood orange and spice open in a bouquet that is so compelling. Silky tannins wrap around a huge core of fruit as the Carlisle envelops every corner of the palate. Deep, layered and beautifully persistent, the Carlisle is wonderfully vivid from the very first taste. I loved it.
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022

  13. Marietta Angeli

    Estate Grown Zinfandel
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#48347

    JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - June 5, 2018
The 2016 Zinfandel Angeli (96% Zinfandel, 2% Syrah, and 2% Petite Sirah) comes from Alexander Valley in the northern part of California. Its plum/purple color is followed by a rockingly good bouquet of spiced plums, cedar, sandalwood, and exotic spice. Medium to full-bodied, focused, elegant and seamless, with a silky texture, it’s very much in the style of the 2016 vintage. While already hard to resist, it should keep for 6–7 years. It’s a great value. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2018
Marietta’s 2016 Zinfandel Angeli is plush, deep, dense and beautifully textured. Expressive floral and spice notes add lift and nuance to this fresh, impeccably balanced Zinfandel. The purity of the fruit here is striking.

  15. Bedrock Bedrock Vineyard Heritage

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#54425

    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
Bold aromas of rose petal and orange blossom open to dynamic blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper flavors, building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 750 cases made.
    VN93+93+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a tough wine to read today. It is quite tannic and closed, but also does not appear to be quite as powerful or heavy as it can be, which in my view is a positive. Size and weight come so naturally at Bedrock that the wines can at times be a little too much of a good thing. I hope to have a chance to taste the 2019 again in the future, as it is in no mood to show its cards today. (Antonio Galloni)
    JD92+92+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
Coming from a site that was originally planted in the 1850s (the vines for this release date back to the 1890s), the 2019 The Bedrock Heritage offers a medium ruby/plum color as well as a beautifully complex nose of cherries, red plums, lavender, herbes de Provence, and pepper. Quite structured and tannic, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful, complex, elegant wine that needs 2–3 years of bottle age and should have 10–12 years of prime drinking. (Jeb Dunnuck)
