Sonoma County and Napa Valley are the most prestigious wine regions in California, with Sonoma County wines known for being more laid-back than their Napa counterparts. That's not to say that Sonoma County wines aren't wonderfully sophisticated, because they are.
Sonoma's cool, coastal climate makes much of it ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but sharp, robust Zinfandels can also be produced in areas like Dry Creek Valley. Among the more famous Sonoma County wine producers are Benziger, Deloach, Gallo Family Vineyards and Simi Winery.
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/2/2022 Savory with dried herbs and pine, the 2019 Mouvèdre Radiant Ridge Vineyard is introspective, with black fruit and freshly turned soil, while the palate is stony and mineral. It is full, but surprisingly more focused than the aromatics might suggest. Much more restrained and with a gorgeous texture, this is an incredible expression that is worth seeking out and drinking over the next 15 years. (Audrey Frick)VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2019 Mourvèdre Radiant Ridge Vineyard is super-expressive right out of the gate. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice are front and center. Dried herbs and a kick of black pepper add an exotic flair to the finish. This mid-weight, fleshy Mourvèdre is a real charmer. Best of all, it should drink well with minimal cellaring. The Mourvèdre is one of the highlights in this range from Mike Officer and Carlisle.
