WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021 Straw-colored with gold reflections, this wine offers aromas of apricot, peach and pear. In the mouth, flavors include honeycomb, Bartlett pear and canned peaches. It finishes with sweetness that is balanced by the ample acidity.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016 Tasted at the Disznóko vertical in London, the 2012 Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos is 100% Furmint in terms of Aszu grapes. It has a more complex bouquet than the 2013 with dried honey, grilled walnut, lanolin and yellow flowers, the kind of nose that seduces you, draws you in. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening, spicier than the 2013, although it does not quite deliver the same level of concentration and intensity. It gently fans out towards the finish, although I would like a little more depth to develop, so that there is more presence. Tasted September 2016.
WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21 This is a powerful Rosé, built with the addition of 13 percent red wine (pinot noir from Bouzy) and 11 percent of the blend aged in oak foudres. It starts off youthfully intense, with a smoky black-tea edge to the tannins. The wine is structured and savory, freighted with limestone earthiness until it grows bright and racy with air. This is built to last.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2020 A crowd-pleaser for its fine balance and integration, offering a mouthwatering mix of wild strawberry and peach fruit, biscuit and salted almond flavors. Hints of anise, pink grapefruit zest and honey show on the creamy finish. Disgorged January 2019. Drink now through 2027.WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2020 An attractive pale rosé color heralds a crisp, dry style of Champagne, ripe and now mature. Along with the structure and minerality that give the wine its shape and further potential, there is a hint of the toastiness to come. Drink the wine now, or even better, wait until 2021.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2014 A dark, loamy style, with warm tar and espresso notes underscoring the core of black Mission fig, Black Forest cake and steeped plum fruit. Juniper and singed alder hints add texture and contrast on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2027. 500 cases imported.RP92+92–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2013 Made from older vines and a tank-aged blend of roughly 85% Grenache and the balance Mourvedre and Syrah, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has additional levels of kirsch, garrigue, ground herbs and black raspberry as well as a full-bodied, decadently textured profile on the palate. Despite the richness level here, it remains gorgeously fresh and even elegant. Enjoy it over the coming 10–12 years. Drink now–2024.
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014 The awesome 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve is at the top of the heap in the vintage, and is world-class stuff. Sharing lots of similarities to the Les Trois Sources (they come from similar terroirs), it has another level of concentration and density, with incredible liquid rock, blueberry, violets, licorice and bouquet garni-like aromas and flavors. A rock star on the palate, it has full-bodied power, perfect balance, a seamless, elegant texture and blockbuster mid-palate depth. Coming from 100-year-old Grenache vines and pure sand soils, it’s a tour de force that will have two-plus decades of life.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2015 The 2012 La Muse, which is 85% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec, is a smaller cuvée of 1,840 cases. The wine has plenty of spice box, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and Asian plum sauce, along with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Ripe, round, full-bodied and opulent, this is a wine that can be drunk now or cellared for another three decades. Interestingly, the alcohol levels are not all that high in any of these wines, with most of them rarely exceeding 14.3%.ST94+94–97 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - May/Jun 2014 Deep ruby. Wonderfully pure aromas and flavors of crushed cassis, minerals and exotic spices. Huge, sweet and plush but utterly primary for a wine with so much flesh. Boasts the chocolatey richness of a topnotch Pomerol from a great year, but the wine’s huge, ripe tannins will require at least five or six years of aging. Finishes with outstanding length.VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2015 Mocha, chocolate, dark plums, smoke and cloves are some of the notes that inform the 2012 La Muse. Dark, sumptuous and impeccably balanced, the 2012 is super-impressive. The flavors are bold and intense, and while there is plenty of size and volume, the wine’s balance is simply impeccable. I imagine the 2012 will reward drinkers with a good 20 years or so of very fine drinking pleasure.
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2014 Bryant’s flagship wine, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill offers a rare but magnificent forest floor/floral aromatic profile with lavishly rich, ripe notes of crème de cassis, blueberry and black raspberry liqueur. Fleshy, opulent, full-bodied and multidimensional, it conceals some significant tannins behind its wealth of extract and fruit. From a first-growth quality, hillside vineyard (13 acres), this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeously pure as well as impeccably well-balanced with a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, alcohol and wood. In fact, the new oak component, which is significant, is largely obliterated by the wine’s stunning fruit. This majestic Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for 25–30 years.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2014 The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is silky, layered and very polished throughout. Red cherry, spice cake, crushed flowers and mint are laced together in a gracious, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of orange peel and cinnamon add an exotic flair as the wine opens up. Bryant’s 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite pretty, but it should really be more than that. It should be viscerally thrilling in the way the best vintages are.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2015 Rustic and pleasantly chewy, this offers a rich, extracted core of dusty currant and blackberry flavors, ending with a stream of gravel, anise, tar and cedar notes. Drink now through 2028. 1,000 cases made.
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023 The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva TB takes things to a much darker, deeper and more savory place than nearly any wine in its category. Cloves and cinnamon combine with balsamic spice, molten chocolate and medicinal blackberries as this blossoms in the glass. It floods the palate with racy, silky textures and an intense burst of ultra-ripe red and black fruits offset by a bitter twang of sour citrus and cocoa. Tantalizing acidity barely maintains balance yet ultimately succeeds. Exotic spices and dried black cherries saturate and are framed by a coating of fine tannins that promises decades of further evolution. This is a powerhouse. (Eric Guido)JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 6, 2022 This is a structured and solid Amarone, with dried fruits, sultanas, figs and iron. It’s full-bodied, yet compacted and tannic with a long and persistent finish. One for the cellar, but already impressive to drink. (James Suckling)SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2023 Both juicy and mouthwatering, this rich red shows a lot of personality, offering layered flavors of blackberry pie and raspberry ganache, hints of espresso and sweet smoke, plus fragrant juniper, eucalyptus, lavender and leather accents. Features firm, well-meshed tannins, with creamy edges that meld into the silky flavor range. Drink now through 2035. 668 cases made. (Alison Napjus)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2015 This is another estate in Pauillac that has dramatically raised its performance level over the last decade. The 2012, from grapes harvested between October 2 and 17, has supple tannins and a nice mouthfeel that builds incrementally, offering up plenty of crème de cassis, plum and blackberry fruit. The wine is soft, round, opulently textured, and an undeniable success for 2012. The purity of fruit is also admirable. Drink this medium to full-bodied Pauillac over the next 20 years. This is significantly better than the barrel samples tasted in March, 2013.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2016 The 2012 Grand Puy Ducasse is bold, racy and supple, all qualities that are best appreciated sooner rather than later. There is plenty to admire in the wine’s giving, open-knit personality. Succulent red cherries, plums, mint and sweet spices round out the inviting finish. The 2012 is a bit two-dimensional, but it is nevertheless a solid effort for the year, not to mention quite appealing.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2015 Well-stuffed, with thick and muscular brambly structure that easily supports the core of macerated black currant, fig and boysenberry fruit flavors. A tarry edge coats the finish. More backwards than most of its peers at this early stage, but all the elements are in place. Best from 2018 through 2027. 6,665 cases made.RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Apr 2013 While the 2012 Haut-Bailly is not as powerful or rich as the 2009 and 2010, it is classically elegant, racy and noble. This medium-bodied effort is the poster child for elegance, finesse, balance and equilibrium. The Cantemerle of Pessac-Leognan? Its deep ruby/plum/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of black cherries, black currants, lead pencil shavings and a touch of spicy oak. This medium-bodied, pretty wine will benefit from 4–5 years of cellaring and last for two decades.
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014 The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rutherford AVA, has a dense black cherry and blackcurrant-scented nose with graphite and forest floor notes, beautiful purity, full-bodied mouthfeel and super-richness and power, but elegant and complex. This is classic Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon and should age beautifully for 20–25 years.VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2014 Dana’s 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard possesses remarkable structure and density, especially within the context of the year. Firm yet well-integrated tannins give the wine much of its energy, tension and focus. Black cherry jam, graphite, smoke and tobacco add nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. Far from an easygoing 2012, the Helms is going to need time to fully come together. There is so much to look forward to here. This is the first vintage since 2008 that was vinified in wood uprights, as was originally intended. The intervening vintages have been much shorter, so they were done in barrel. The 2012 impresses for its balance of fruit, acidity and tannin.SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2015 Dense and pleasantly earthy, with an edge of loamy earth and crushed rock minerality cutting through the core of currant, blackberry and mocha before the dense, earthy tannins fold in. The finish is long and engaging. Drink now through 2030. 284 cases made.
RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2013 As to the 2012s, while there will be no Cuvee da Capo in the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is a beauty. Tasted out of multiple barrels (all of which rated between 94 and 97), it should be a classic Pegau with aromatics similar to the 2010, yet not quite as much depth or richness. Full-bodied and nicely concentrated, all of the samples showed the freshness of the vintage, with ample mid-palate depth, high quality tannin and loads of character. It should benefit from short-term cellaring and have 15–20 years of longevity. Drink 2016–2032.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2015 A dark, alluring style, with tobacco, chestnut and alder notes surrounding a core of blackberry, plum and cherry fruit. Lots of garrigue details line the finish, showing a warm paving stone hint. Should settle in nicely in the cellar. Best from 2016 through 2023. 6,670 cases made.ST92+92–94 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2014 Bright purple. Smoky, spice-accented aromas of blackberry and cherry-cola, with sexy floral and mineral overtones. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering an array of red and dark berry preserve flavors complicated by hints of Indian spices and black pepper. Rich and energetic, with strong finishing thrust, slow-building tannins and a late kick of smoky minerality. I was looking for some funky gaminess here but didn’t find any.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2015 Deep ruby. Heady spice-accented blackberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suave floral and spice qualities, with white pepper and licorice nuances emering with air. Seamless, broad and sweet in the mouth, offering silky black and blue fruit preserve flavors and a hint of allspice. Closes juicy and long, with slow-building tannins and lingering spiciness.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2014 The direct black currant and fig paste notes are underscored with tobacco, tar and roasted alder hints, revealing an echo of Black Forest cake. The finish rumbles along, leaving a dark, slightly muscular feel. Best from 2015 through 2027. 125 cases made.ST91+91–93 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jan/Feb 2014 Bright ruby. Candied red fruits, spicecake and minerals on the highly perfumed nose, with an exotic blood orange nuance in the background. Juicy and precise, displaying very good clarity and lift to its sappy raspberry and cherry flavors. Darker in tone on the finish, clinging with impressive tenacity and appealing sweetness.RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014 The 2012s Châteauneuf du Pape Signature is a seamless, graceful red that has pretty kirsch, blackberry, spice and garrigue to go with a forward, supple style on the palate. Made from 65% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah and 6% other permitted varieties, it has sweet tannin, a light, clean texture and keeps you coming back for another drink. Enjoy it over the coming decade.
RP9999 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014 The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pony Express is made from Clone 337 (95%) and 5% Cabernet Franc. This 200-case cuvée spends time in 50% Darnajou and 50% Taransaud barrels. A sensational Cabernet, it possesses abundant notes of spring flowers, new saddle leather, licorice, baking spices, blackberries and cassis. Full-bodied with a terrific, voluptuous texture and an opulent personality, this is fabulous and will provide sumptuous drinking over the next 15 or more years.
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014 The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon The Trail, fashioned from Clone 337, was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. It exhibits a dense purple color, a fabulous texture, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and lots of blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of graphite and spring flowers. This is a Napa version of a Bordeaux Pauillac, only richer and fuller. It should drink well for the next 15–20 years.
