  1. Château Haut-Bailly Pessac-Léognan

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#55275

    JS9999 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, March 3, 2021
Complex and expressive nose, offering red and dark fruit, spices and pepper with wood and mushroom undertones. Fresh mussel shell and a hint of ink, too. Full-bodied with a fine texture and great balance between the acidity and the controlled, tannic structure. Very long finish. Goes on and on. Tiny production, 21 hectoliters per hectare. Try after 2025.
    JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
The Grand Vin 2018 Château Haut-Bailly checks in as 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It spent 18 months in 60% new French oak. This is a beautiful, classic expression of this terroir, and its dense purple hue is followed by gorgeous black cherry and cassis fruits interwoven with ample tobacco leaf, cedary herbs, earth, truffle, and floral nuances. While 2018 was a hot, dry year (at the end of the season anyway), this shows a mix of cooler-climate, vibrant aromatics paired with a rich, concentrated, fresh style on the palate. It has plenty of tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. A beautiful, elegant 2018, it’s going to need 5–7 years of bottle age and keep for 3–4 decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Haut-Bailly soars out of the glass, showing magnificent poise that only grows with time. Sweet, perfumed aromatics, silky tannins and mid-weight structure add to its considerable allure. Ripe red berry fruit, spice, blood orange, licorice, cedar, tobacco and menthol are all woven together in an effortless, classy Haut-Bailly that delivers the goods. I suppose the 2018 doesn’t quite have the explosive energy of the very best years, but it more than makes up for that with its sensual, seductive personality.
    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
The 2018 Haut-Bailly is blended of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, and it has 14.4% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a little coaxing to unlock a powerhouse of black fruit preserves, offering notes of blackberry pie, crème de cassis and black cherry compote, giving way to nuances of Chinese five spice, camphor, chocolate box and licorice with a touch of crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed with plush textured, rich black fruits, supported by a lively backbone and finishing long and spicy. It is decadently tempting to drink now, but give it 5 years in bottle to begin to see its full glory, while it should continue to transform for a further 20 years or more in cellar.
    WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
The balance between Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine gives it swathes of rich fruit and a classic structure. Blackberry flavors layered with firm, dense tannins convey elegance and richness. This is a ripe wine, generously proportioned and ready for aging.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2021
Packed with steeped plum, blackberry and cassis flavors, this also sports licorice root, applewood and tar notes. Dense and shows a chewy edge, but it’s seriously long, energetic and vibrant, so just cellar to let it unfurl. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2038. 5,000 cases made.

  2. Château Pavie Macquin

    Premier Grand Cru Classé
    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#51960

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th Mar 2020
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Pavie Macquin comes charging out of the glass with exuberant scents of warm black cherries, blackberry pie and wild blueberry coulis plus hints of menthol, licorice, candied violets and charcuterie. Medium-bodied, the palate is an exercise in precision and poise, featuring a beautiful frame of wonderfully ripe, very fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing very long and multilayered. Simply stunning! The blend here is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 70% new.
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2020
The 2017 Pavie Macquin is a rich, deep and super-expressive wine with remarkable persistence. As always, Pavie Macquin is a potent Saint-Émilion, but the 2017 has terrific energy as well. In 2017, Pavie-Macquin is not as forthcoming in its youth as it can be, and is going to need a few years in bottle to truly come together. A bit of time in the glass brings out very pretty floral top notes and rich, sensual fruit that is such a signature of this site. Tasted three times.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2020
Features a delightfully pure aromatic burst of cassis and cool plum fruit leading off, followed by a rush of violet and lilac notes that add lift. Underneath, a subtle graphite edge injects sneaky length through the finish. Built on purity and cut. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2022 through 2040. 4,833 cases made.
    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/26/2020
Coming from a cool terroir located on the upper plateau, just behind Chateau Pavie, the 2017 Chateau Pavie Macquin checks in as a mix of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that spent 16 months in 70% new French oak. This wine is always closed, tannic, and hard to understand in its youth, yet blossoms with 7–8 years of bottle age. The 2017 sports a deep, purple/ruby color as well as beautiful notes of black raspberries, cassis, huge minerality, white flowers, and loamy earth. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet silky and seamless on the palate, it doesn’t have the sheer weight and flesh of the 2015 and 2016 yet is flawlessly balanced, has terrific tannins, and a great finish. It will be drinkable with just 4–6 years of bottle age and cruise for 15–20 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  3. PlumpJack Merlot

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59876

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
Plumpjack’s 2019 Merlot offers terrific tension and grip. In 2019, the Merlot includes fruit from a site in Carneros, and that seams to add an extra dimension of energy that is quite appealing. Dried herbs, leather, tobacco and crushed flowers lend striking aromatic nuance to this savory, beautifully delineated wine. The 2019 is super distinctive, not to mention a real pleasure to taste. (Antonio Galloni)
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022
A beautiful Merlot, the 2019 from PlumpJack offers everything you could want from this variety with its plump, fleshy, medium to full-bodied profile as well as terrific aromatics of black cherries, darker berries, leafy herbs, spring flowers, and a touch of chocolate. It’s ready to go yet should continue delivering the goods over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#55578

    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 22, 2021
Currant, red-tea, chili, chocolate and lemon-zest aromas. Chalk and crushed gravel, too. It’s medium-bodied with tight, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Sleek and tight with crunchy berry, mineral and zesty notes on the finish. Complex. Pretty center palate to this. Extremely polished. Try from 2025.
    JD95+95+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
Emerging from a beautiful, terraced vineyard on the eastern side of Saint-Emilion, the 2018 Château Tour Saint Christophe is based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in 40% new French oak. Its vivid purple color is followed by a great nose of blackcurrants, blueberries, tobacco leaf, chocolate, violets, and chocolate. Hitting the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, it has this wonderful sense of purity and elegance, a touch of chalky minerality, flawless balance, and a great finish. This beautiful, elegant, seamless Saint-Emilion needs 4–5 years of bottle age but will evolve for 20–25 years. You won’t regret having this in the cellar. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Tour Saint Christophe represents a new level of elegance, precision and finesse for this estate in Saint-Émilion’s Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes district. Silky and exceptionally polished, the 2018 oozes class. Moreover, the heavy extraction and strong torrefaction notes that marked previous vintages of the recent past have been replaced by beautifully precise, vibrant fruit. Tour Saint Christophe is one of best values in Saint-Émilion. I haven’t always loved Tour Saint Christoph, but I love the 2018. It’s a fabulous effort from Technical Director Jérôme Aguirre and his team. Don’t miss it.
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Apr 2021
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged for around 18 months in oak barrels, 40% new, the 2018 Tour Saint Christophe weighs in at 14.6% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out of the glass with bold notions of baked black cherries, plum preserves and blueberry pie plus underlying suggestions of Christmas cake, Chinese five spice and dusty soil. The full-bodied palate packs in the black and blue fruit preserves layers, framed by velvety tannins and lively acidity, finishing long and spicy.

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60243

    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022
The 2019 Barde-Haut is beautifully defined on the nose, very pure with precise blackberry, briary, violets and iris flower, harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins, cohesive and mineral-driven; the terroir is very expressive towards the finish that lingers in the mouth. Wonderful, assured and with great potential. Tasted at the Barde-Haut vertical at the château. (Neal Martin)
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
This beautiful estate is located on the eastern side of the appellation, and they consistently turn out brilliant wines. The 2019 Château Barde-Haut reveals a deep purple hue to go with classic limestone-influenced aromas and flavors of ripe black cherries, chalky minerality, chocolate, and white truffle. More medium to full-bodied and elegant than overtly powerful, its balance is spot on, it has beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It shows the vintage style perfectly and will benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age, and cruise for over two decades in cold cellars. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  6. Château Monbousquet Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53914

    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2021
Espresso crema and melted black licorice aromas give way to a lush range of cassis, plum reduction and blackberry confiture flavors that roll through with authority. Long finish is carried by a buried graphite note and hint of smoldering earth. An amped in style but if you like muscle and panache, you’ll dig this. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2022 through 2038.
    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 11, 2021
Another brilliant vintage for this estate, which has been going from strength to strength over the past decade, the 2018 Château Monbousquet reveals a dense purple, opaque color as well as a rich yet lively bouquet of cassis, chocolate covered currants, new leather, and graphite. With sumptuous levels of fruit, full -bodied richness, and ample mid-palate depth, it’s the purity of fruit as well as the quality of the tannins that have brought this cuvée up another notch. Readers are going to love this cuvée, and it should keep for 15–20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Apr 2019
The 2018 Monbousquet is composed of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested September 27 to October 9 with yields of 39 hectoliters per hectare. The wine has a pH of 3.78 and 14.38% alcohol. Deep purple-black in color, it sashays out of the glass with beautiful, flamboyant red roses, chocolate box and molten licorice scents over a core of crème de cassis, plum preserves and Morello cherries plus fragrant wafts of underbrush, lavender and cloves. Full-bodied, rich and wonderfully elegant, the palate delivers layers of black fruits and spices, wrapped in a cashmere shawl of tannins, finishing very long and incredibly perfumed.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Monbousquet is a total turn-on. Rich, heady and voluptuous, the 2018 is flat-out delicious today. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, leather, new French oak and licorice are all dialed up in this unapologetically flamboyant Saint-Émilion. I don’t expect the 2018 to be a long-term ager, but I doubt that is much of a concern for readers who buy it.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#55074

    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, March 3, 2021
Elegant, complex nose with dark and blue fruit, as well as spicy and earthy undertones. Sandalwood and cedar with dark chocolate, too. Full body with firm, ultra fine tannins. Structured, layered and flavorful on the palate. It’s very polished with a lovely texture and a long finish. Pure and luscious. Merlot with 37% cabernet franc. Best ever. Try after 2024, but already very beautiful.
    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
I think the 2018 Château Nenin might check in behind the magical 2019, but it’s certainly in the same league as the 2016. Based roughly on 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, its deep purple color is followed by a beautiful nose of ripe black cherries, cassis, chocolate, violets, and spring flowers. With beautiful freshness, medium to full-bodied richness, seamless tannins, and a great finish, this gorgeous Pomerol is going to benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age and evolve for two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
The 2018 Nenin is a blend of 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Franc, weighing in at 14.6% alcohol. Deep purple-black in color, the nose explodes with bombastic notions of baked black plums, stewed cherries and boysenberries with suggestions of licorice, eucalyptus, clove oil and hoisin. The medium to full-bodied palate has a lovely line of freshness lifting the ripe, rich, dark fruit layers, framed by plush tannins, finishing with lingering exotic spice notes.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Nénin has also benefitted from élevage. There is some strictness in the tannin, but the 2018 has filled out beautifully. The Cabernet Franc, 37% of the blend (very high for Nénin) speaks with a great deal of authority. Purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice all build in this striking, deep Pomerol. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It is an impressive wine, to be sure.

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2020
The 2017 Pibran is a juicy, absolutely delicious Pauillac to drink now and over the next decade or so. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice, mint and dried cherry add pretty aromatic top notes to round things out. The 2017 is not super complex or structured, but it is a wine of immense pleasure and sensuality. I loved it.
    JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - February 26, 2020
Based mostly on Merlot (68%), the 2017 Chateau Pibran reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as terrific notes of damp earth, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and black cherry and currant fruits. Beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and balanced, it’s a terrific 2017 that’s already hard to resist. Drink it over the coming 10–15 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Always bottled early, the 2020 Merlot is all varietal from a mix of sites in the Walla Walla Valley. It has a juicy, medium to full-bodied, chewy style on the palate as well as good purity in its ripe red and blue fruits, notes of tobacco, scorched earth, and graphite-like aromatics. VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2017 Geremia is a revelation. It might be even better than the 2015 or 2016, which is saying a lot. Soaring aromatics make a strong first impression. In 2017, the fruit profile leans more into the red fruit end of the spectrum. The warm, dry year yielded a Geremia that is unusually open. I doubt too many of the estate’s fans will have a problem with that given how long these wines usually take to open. Today, the 2017 Geremia is a total pleasure bomb. Don’t miss it. (Antonio Galloni)

    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#42280

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2015
The 2012 La Muse, which is 85% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec, is a smaller cuvée of 1,840 cases. The wine has plenty of spice box, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and Asian plum sauce, along with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Ripe, round, full-bodied and opulent, this is a wine that can be drunk now or cellared for another three decades. Interestingly, the alcohol levels are not all that high in any of these wines, with most of them rarely exceeding 14.3%.
    ST94+94–97 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - May/Jun 2014
Deep ruby. Wonderfully pure aromas and flavors of crushed cassis, minerals and exotic spices. Huge, sweet and plush but utterly primary for a wine with so much flesh. Boasts the chocolatey richness of a topnotch Pomerol from a great year, but the wine’s huge, ripe tannins will require at least five or six years of aging. Finishes with outstanding length.
    VN93+93–95 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2015
Mocha, chocolate, dark plums, smoke and cloves are some of the notes that inform the 2012 La Muse. Dark, sumptuous and impeccably balanced, the 2012 is super-impressive. The flavors are bold and intense, and while there is plenty of size and volume, the wine’s balance is simply impeccable. I imagine the 2012 will reward drinkers with a good 20 years or so of very fine drinking pleasure.

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020
Deep ruby with purple highlights, the 2017 Champoux Vineyard is a stunning success with elegance and complexity bursting at the seams. Seductive blackberry essence, dusty plum skin, dark cherries and cassis waft out of the glass with delicate dusty floral tones, dried tobacco and graphite nuances. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is balanced with rich complexity and an elegant mineral tension before offering up a clearly delineated fruit frame compounded by focus, precision and finesse. At present, the wine has a pleasingly tannic edge and finishes with a mineral tension and red-fruited succulence that continue to evolve in the mouth. Simply stellar!
    WS9595 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/20
A joyous blend of about 40 percent each of cabernet franc and merlot (the balance cabernet sauvignon), this amounts to a return to form for this venerable Washington winery. Cedary wood notes and dark carob and blackberry scents lead, and the flavors fall into line from there: red cherry and red plum, a shred of tobacco, a prickle of acidity. It radiates vitality, nimble and red fruited, with a brightness within the structure that gives it the feel of a Bordeaux varietal wine unleashed.
    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/15/2020
The 2017 Champoux Vineyard is another wine from this team that shows the more elegant, pure, balanced style of the vintage beautifully. Fabulous notes of crème de cassis, candied violets, spice, and unsmoked tobacco all flow to a medium to full-bodied Bordeaux blend that has silky tannins and no hard edges. As with the Ciel Du Cheval, it’s going to be better with 2–3 years of bottle age and should cruise for two decades in cold cellars. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
Bright ruby-red. Deep, musky, balsamic scents of currant, blackberry, cannabis, spices and dark chocolate; slightly high-toned. Nicely high-pitched yet plush and suave on the palate, conveying serious energy and vinosity to its currant, dark raspberry, spice, cocoa and menthol flavors. Real nobility of texture here, along with a captivating sweetness and a repeating high-toned suggestion. Builds slowly and lingers long on the finish, with the firm but refined tannins fully supported by fruit. Classy juice, especially considering the sizable Merlot percentage. And more sweet than savory. Incidentally, my two samples of the 2017 Ciel du Cheval Red Wine were too volatile and porty to recommend; both finished with drying tannins.

Weighing in at 14.8% alcohol, the 2017 Red Wine Ciel du Cheval blends equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc from this outstanding site on Red Mountain. On the nose, it develops creosote tones alongside red florals, wintergreen, cigar ash and suggestions of Asian spices that all take shape in the glass. The palate is seamless and soft, delivering rich red and dark fruit flavors alongside black licorice and a hint of menthol. Glorious to consume now, the 2017 Ciel du Cheval could easily be a 20-year wine.
    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020
Dark ruby in color, the 2017 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard is dark-fruited with juicy black plum, blackberry essence and dark cherry with hints of currants and cassis. Soft aromas of red flowers and pencil shavings waft with a dusty tension. Medium to full-bodied, the wine shows precision with an elegant frame and sturdy tannins, ending with a long-lingering, mineral finish with high-tone red fruits of dark, dusty cherry skin and red plum skin. This will drink fantastically for the next decade, but it won’t do you wrong if you open a bottle tomorrow. Bravo!

  14. Castello di Ama l’Apparita

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60726

    RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Feb 2023
One of the stars of Italian enology, this iconic wine is Merlot in name but Tuscan in spirit. The L’Apparita is a gorgeous wine and one that brings an enormous sense of excitement and energy to those who drink it. Its texture is soft and rich, yet the tannins are gentle and round. There is plenty of substance and structure here, however, with seamless layers of black fruit, cherry, sweet spice and tobacco. The wine’s complexity is enhanced by elegant mineral tones and a subtle, menthol-like signature. Temperature control and careful pump-overs are executed, and great care is taken during harvest to avoid any overripe berries. Cool, calcareous soils with many stones serve to insulate the roots and lock in freshness. The secret of this wine is magic of site, exposure and geology. This is another collectors’ edition of L’Apparita. (Monica Larner)

  15. Château Gazin Pomerol

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#55082

    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
The deep purple, inky-hued 2018 Château Gazin comes from the Pomerol plateau and is 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. A brilliant nose of blueberries, candied cherries, wildflowers, tobacco, chocolate, and spice gives way to a stunning Pomerol with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This plush, sexy, opulent Pomerol does everything right. It already offers pleasure yet will ideally be given 4–6 years of bottle age and will have two decades or so over overall longevity. For its weight, this wine is also elegant. Rich, lush Merlot fruit flavors have a sense of restraint, self-contained and already delicious. The ripe berry flavors promise a wine that will have opulent fruit as well as structure. Drink from 2026.

Rich aromas of blueberries, ripe black cherries, chocolate and sandalwood. It’s full-bodied with firm, well integrated and rounded tannins. Solid depth of fruit here. Creamy and polished. Better after 2024.

The 2018 Gazin has a lively, generous bouquet of vivacious wild strawberry, boysenberry and hints of tobacco. The aromatics are well delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, offering seductive black fruit mixed with black pepper, truffle and clove. There is so much finesse toward the finish that it is approachable now, yet it certainly has the substance to suggest long-term aging. Not to be underestimated, this is another wonderful Gazin.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Gazin (a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc) leaps from the glass with vibrant notes of warm plums, black raspberries and kirsch, plus suggestions of wild mushrooms, fragrant earth, Sichuan pepper and tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers impressive energy with approachable, rounded tannins and a lively backbone framing the crunchy red and black fruits, finishing long and earthy.
