Terrific energy and delineation here, and long and suave on the rising finish, where the dusty tannins are beautifully buffered by the wine’s material. A lovely showing, even if this very juicy wine is still a bit youthfully imploded. Aromas of cinnamon-spiced dark cherries, sweet plums and a dusty minerality sway out of the glass with elements of an exotic floral bouquet. Full-bodied, the wine shows layers and a delineated, fresh frame with succulent tannins, offering a balanced structure across the mid-palate. The mouthfeel shows finesse with a purity of fruit before lingering with persistence, vibrancy and a subtle red spice reflection over the elongated finish. This is soft and round on the palate, with ripe red fruits and pretty floral tones offset by a twang of sour citrus. The 2018 tapers off lightly structured yet fresh, as inner rose and hints of salted licorice fade. Offering a pale gold color as well as a blockbuster bouquet of honeyed tangerines, tart apricots, liquid rocks, white flowers, and honeysuckle, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, an opulent texture, vibrant acidity, and again, an incredible sense of minerality, despite having no shortage of sweetness or richness. The 2016 is a classic blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon that hit 14.2% alcohol with 135 grams of residual sugar. It’s already complex and approachable yet will keep for 3–4 decades. RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022 The new top-of-the-range 2021 Jardín de Hormigas Los Amantes was produced with organic grapes from plot number 15 in their Jardín Altamira property, 1.2 hectares where there are some 80 centimeters of topsoil rich in silt that gives the balance between meat and bones and then big granite rocks with limestone, the big bones. The big bones require a little more meat, so a little more soil… It fermented with 15% whole clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in untoasted 3,500-liter French oak foudres for 15 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and keeps very good freshness and balance. This felt very different from the Appellation Altamira (which was also from a different vintage), more aromatic, with lots of flowers, with lots of layers and personality, which is impressive for vines planted in 2017. Place before age… It’s balanced and expressive, with very fine tannins and a dry finish. The place even before the variety... It’s elegant and ethereal with grip from the chalky tannins. It’s impressive how noble the variety is and how the young vines can produce a wine with this depth. SUPER ELEGANT. A great debut! 4,300 bottles were filled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

The Starderi has shown a very consistent performance over the years. These releases from La Spinetta are all packaged in big, heavy glass bottles.
