The crisp, refreshing taste of Sauvignon Blanc wine is the perfect cure for a hot summer's day or a wonderful addition to any special occasion. Armed with an oftentimes herbaceous aroma and mouth-puckering acidity, Sauvignon Blanc wines are distinctly different than the other white wines on the market.
Depending on your fancy, the best Sauvignon Blancs are likely to be found either in New Zealand, California, the Loire Valley, or Bordeaux. Each region offers up it's own unique take on Sauvignon Blanc, all of them flavorful and remarkable in their own way. Enjoy your Sauvignon Blanc wine with lighter fare, like fish or fresh salads.

VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 The 2020 Saint-Bris Exogyra Virgula, which was taken from tank, has a light apple blossom bouquet with a lovely lemon thyme scent. The palate is fresh, vibrant and very saline, delivering good density and flavors of green apple mixed with pear toward the finish. Superb. (Neal Martin)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 Depicting a bucolic scene of the church in Boulay’s home of Chavignol along with a couple of goats—this is home to the cheese crottin de Chavignol — the 2021 Sancerre is a rich and impressive style that’s full of nectarine fruit. Vinified in barrel, there’s a roundness to Sauvignon’s normally angular edge and a hint of sweetness although Boulay insists it is fully dry. The white limestone soils provide the tender texture, but there’s a real sense of structural grip on the long finish. Delicious now but based on historic examples, will be even better in 10 years. At the end of the tasting Boulay mentioned the wines had been open for several days before my arrival, and I will endeavor to taste fresh samples. (Rebecca Gibb MW)
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 What I love most about the 2019 Pur Sang is its focus and precision; the compact, light bodied core carries masses of fragrance across the palate and beyond on the long finish. There’s clarity and freshness, with a thread of acidity and minerality pulling the wine through like a needle and thread. It is starting to show the very first hints of time in bottle with a hint of almond alongside the ripe melon notes and nettle tea character. Impressive stuff from this three-hectare parcel in the village of Saint Laurent l’Abbaye, about 5km northeast of the Dagueneau domaine. (Rebecca Gibb MW)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 A hallowed wine from a tiny parcel on the Monts Damnés hill, the 2020 Sancerre Comtesse is an elegant yet sweetly fruited expression offering a distinctive and youthful array of fruits from melon to pear and nectarine. While pure and precise, there’s a sensation of sweetness, which seems to come from a combination of the oak, the ripeness of the fruit and the high alcohol; it’s a little hot on the finish, somewhat diminishing its otherwise refined personality. At the end of our tasting, Boulay mentioned the wines had been open for several days before my arrival, and I will endeavor to taste fresh samples. (Rebecca Gibb MW)
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022 The 2021 Amphora is pure Sauvignon Blanc aged for eight months in clay amphora. It has an attractive nose with yellow fruit and pressed flowers, though you could argue there is less in the way of varietal typicity. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed texture, almond and vanillary notes, slight oxidative notes lending complexity on the finish. Very fine. (Neal Martin)
