Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.
The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.

JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - November 1, 2018 A little gem of a wine is the 2017 Côtes Catalanes Roubials from Saint Roch, which is mostly Grenache mixed with 10% Mourvèdre, brought up in 20% new barrels. It has loads of fresh blackberry and blueberry fruits intermixed with plenty of violets, leafy herbs, and charcoal aromas and flavors. Drink this medium-bodied, pure, seamless beauty over the coming 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2019 Mainly Grenache, the 2017 Roubials is another fine example of the good work being done at this property. Black cherries dominate the nose, while the palate is slightly earthier. Full-bodied, dense and tannic, it could use another year in the bottle to loosen up, but the tannins are soft, so there’s no real need to defer gratification.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021 A blend of 82% Grenache and 18% Syrah, the 2019 IGP Cotes Catalanes Narassa spent 15 months in a 50-50 mix of tank and demi-muids (15% new). Black cherries and blueberries mingle easily on the nose, joined by hints of maple syrup and licorice. Full-bodied, velvety and super-ripe, it comes across as almost sweet on the lingering finish. Personally, I’d serve it late in the meal, perhaps alongside a well-aged Parmiggiano or similar cheese.

VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2016 Vivid ruby-red. Smoky black and blue fruit scents are complicated by suggestions of licorice and cracked pepper. Focused and chewy on the palate, offering bitter cherry and black currant flavors and a hint of cured meat. Finishes on a slightly dry note, featuring firm grip and dusty, late-arriving tannins.

RP88+88–90 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021 The dark-fruited 2020 IGP Côtes Catalanes Nicolas is 100% Grenache and made from vines averaging 65 years of age. Black cherries, with hints of strawberries, garrigue and crushed stone, appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated, framed by dusty tannins and bright acids. (Joe Czerwinski)

JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - August 16, 2019 A new wine coming from the Gard region of the Southern Rhône, the 2017 IGP Gard Confluence is almost all Carignan (there’s 5% Grenache) brought up in a mix of demi-muids and old barrels. This inky colored effort gives up classic Carignan notes of ripe red and blue fruits, new leather, candied violets, and spice. With beautiful purity, medium body, and fine tannins, it’s a beautiful example of Carignan that’s going to keep for 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
