Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.
The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 The 2020 Frappato Vino di Contrada BB shows a slightly more saturated hue with dark fruit flavors of black cherry and fresh plum. I like the impeccable balance of the BB (from the Contrada Bombolieri with sandy soils and stones), which is more accessible and primary next to the Contrada PT and without the earthy overtones you get in the Contrada FL. (Monica Larner)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 The Arianna Occhipinti 2020 Frappato Vino di Contrada PT (made with old vine fruit in the Contrada Pettineo) has a unique bouquet that stands apart from the other wines in this series, especially in this warm and sunny vintage. There is a hint of purple plum, but the aromas are mostly focused on red fruit flavors with cassis and fresh cherry. I love the lively, punchy approach of this vibrant wine. It feels very much alive. (Monica Larner)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 Showing lots of varietal character, the 2021 Il Frappato reveals dusty red stone, wild berry and a hint of sweet apricot. The wine is firm and tense, yet it also manages an absolutely weightless approach that makes it so easy and fun to drink. It embraces a contemporary style that would pair with the healthy foods we want to eat today, with lots of vegetables and white meats. (Monica Larner)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, September 6, 2021 A very pretty young red with ripe red berries and hints of white chocolate, fresh herbs and whole peppercorns. Medium-bodied with soft tannins. Fresh and fruity. Pleasant to drink now.VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2021 The 2020 Il Frappato di Vittoria shows a pretty translucent ruby color matched by a fresh bouquet of dusty roses, spice and sour melon. It’s soft in texture with a peppery twang to its tart cherry and raspberry fruits. This tapers off a bit short but clean and classically dry.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022 The 2021 Frappato is a deeply expressive yet still lively expression, with hints of tangerine giving way to sour cherries and a mix of rose and violet florals. It’s softly textured yet full of citrus-derived tension and perfumed throughout, like liquid flowers offset by a spicy wave of blood orange. This finishes with length yet also remarkably fresh, and it leaves the mouth watering for more. I would be happy to drink this any day of the week. (Eric Guido)
