Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.

The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.

  2. Trediberri Barbera d’Alba

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#59216

    WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/22
With its bright magenta color, bountiful dark berry flavors and zippy acidity, this wine is bouncy and joyful from start to finish. It offers good concentration and verve while avoiding the excessive alcohol that sometimes marks this variety, making it an excellent partner for a wide range of dishes.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022
The 2021 Barbera d’Alba is an explosion of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and mocha. A healthy dollop of whole clusters (30%) adds an element of savoriness that takes a little getting used to, as it is not often seen in Barbera. Vinification and aging in cement yields a juicy Barbera in which the fruit is front and center. (Antonio Galloni)

  3. Trediberri Barolo Berri

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#60219

    JD93+93–96 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
The 2019 Barolo Berri was tasted from two barrels, one of which utilized whole bunches in the fermentation. While both offered freshness and purity, the second barrel offered more significant spice in its profile, with more depth of fruit, and is firmly structured at this stage. The components are compelling and should make for a wonderful finished blend in a few years’ time. (Audrey Frick)
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Berri is tightly wound and austere in the early going. Crushed red berry fruit, iron, dried herbs and white pepper give the Berri a striking aromatic top register. The tannins are a bit nervy, though, so a few years in bottle are warranted. Frost decimated the crop at Torriglione, which is why this wine (typically the Barolo del Comune di La Morra) is Berri in 2019. To be exact, there is 4% Torriglione, as that was the wine used for topping. (Antonio Galloni)

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#58861

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022
The 2021 Pelaverga Basadone is vibrant and fruity, with plenty of charm and tons of energy. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, smoke, licorice and dried herbs are beautifully delineated. Bright acids give this deceptively light-bodied red tons of energy. (Antonio Galloni)

  5. Damilano Barolo Cannubi

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#57003

    JS9898 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, September 3, 2020
The fruit feels so comfortable here, in the ripe-red zone; it ranges from cherry kernel to chocolate-coated red plums to glazed cherries. Integrated hints of bark and sandalwood. Full-bodied with strapping tannins and muscular, imposing structure and power. Notwithstanding, everything is in striking balance and delivered with remarkable precision and grit. Drink from 2026.
    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020
The Damilano 2016 Barolo Cannubi shows depth and a profound nature. This is the DNA of the Cannubi cru, maybe the most celebrated in the appellation with mildly compact, well-draining sandy soils (actually, a mix of 45% sand, 35% silt and 20% clay, to be precise). These conditions contribute to the dark concentration and the firm textural support found here. These assets are particularly apparent in this classic vintage. Dark fruit and dried cherry cede to earthy truffle and licorice. Of these various single-vineyard expressions, the tight tannins on this Cannubi definitely suggest a long drinking window. This wine is my favorite in this flight from Damilano, and this vintage of 40,000 bottles is distinguished by its sheer excellence.

  6. Ceretto Barbaresco Asili

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#55836

    VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Feb 2019
Ceretto’s 2016 Barbaresco Asili is another stunningly beautiful wine from Ceretto. Here, too, the wine’s energy and tension are simply dazzling. Bright red cherry fruit and floral overtones abound in this taut, crystalline Barbaresco. Readers will have to be patient with the 2016, but it is a jewel of a wine. Deceptively in its mid-weight structure, the 2016 packs a serious punch and really sizzles with vibrancy.

  7. Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#54390

    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/27/2021
The 2017 Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate has a slightly darker profile of licorice, black cherry, and wood spice. The palate is generous and structured, with plum pit, mineral-rich earth, and dried orange blossom. These are wines with incredible aromatic complexity and depth. Drink 2025–2050. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2017 Barolo Ginestra Casa Matè is a dark, mysterious wine. Black cherry, menthol, tobacco, licorice, spice, new leather and pine meld together in a super-classic expression of Ginestra. Deep, rich and enveloping, the 2017 is so impressive in the early going. Here, too, the finesse of the tannins is remarkable.
    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
Soils in the Ginestra vineyard show more moisture-retaining clay in their composition, making them better positioned to handle hot and dry vintages such as this. The Elio Grasso 2017 Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté reveals soft concentration and extra richness; however, the aromatic nuances are well intact. I recall that the previous 2016 vintage took longer to come into focus, whereas this 2017 expression is open-knit and immediately accessible. The fruit is front and center, and the wine slides over the palate with a silky texture. Managing the tannins in 2017 was not easy, but this wine proves that lasting balance is not out of reach.

  8. Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57672

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
No crus were produced in 2018. The 2018 Barbaresco is aromatically expressive, with a perfumed and mineral character, with rocky earth. It has medium body, good concentration, and plenty of fruit and mineral earth that drive through the finish. An outstanding value, drink 2025–2045. (Audrey Frick)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jun 2022
Packaged in its distinctive brown paper label, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2018 Barbaresco is a beautifully lean and luminous expression of Nebbiolo, and that pretty color should remain intact over time. The aromas are bold and ripe with dark and purple fruit, but the bouquet shows interesting twists with earth, truffle, licorice and grilled herb. As the wine opens in the glass, you begin to notice heavier aromas of raisin and dried apricot. It wears a warm-vintage signature for sure, and for that reason, I would suggest a shorter drinking window for the 2018. With an ample 300,000 bottles made, you get a great value with this bottle. (Monica Larner)
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, January 3, 2022
Lovely barbaresco, with all the typical nebbiolo characteristics, such as red berries, mushrooms and dried leaves, as well as hints of bitter orange peel and spice. All this follows through to the medium-to full-bodied palate, where fine, lightly firm tannins add a little grip and additional focus. Compact, but bursting with flavor. Delicious now, but give it a year or two. It will only get better.
    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2018 Barbaresco is an attractive, open-knit wine to drink now and over the next 10–15 years, maybe more. In 2018 the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. Instead, all of the best lots of those grapes went into the straight Barbaresco bottling, another in a long string of successes from this historic house. Dark cherry, cedar, tobacco and spice fill out the layers. There is good depth and a good deal of tannin too, just not the complexity or nuance of the very best years.

  10. Andrea Oberto Barolo

    del Comune di La Morra
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#57444

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020
The Andrea Oberto 2016 Barolo del Comune di La Morra offers immediate aromas with floral intensity all backed by delicate tones of dark fruit, tar and licorice. Those floral tones recall rose, lavender and a touch of fragrant lilac. The wine is graceful, slender and enduring. It just keeps humming along with streamlined but focused intensity. Some 18,000 bottles were released.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2020
The 2016 Barolo is fleshy, succulent and super-expressive, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, mint and rose petal all flesh out in the glass, while soft, silky tannins give this forward Barolo plenty of near and medium-term appeal. This is such a delicious wine.

    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022
The 2021 Barbera d’Alba Serra is an absolute delight. Pliant, silky and creamy, the 2021 offers terrific depth and tons of character. Vibrant red berry fruit, spice, mint and orange peel are some of the many notes that come together in this very pretty, articulate Barbera. I love the freshness and vibrancy here. The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo Starda is a blend taken from estate vineyards in both Neive and Alba. It offers up gorgeous scents of raspberry, crushed flowers, mint, spice, white pepper and citrus, all in a translucent style that is hugely appealing. There’s terrific energy and drive here. 14. Sottimano Barbaresco Fausoni

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50291

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2019
The Fausoni zone provides sandy and clay soils, and you get more power here than from the other locations. These vines are 35 to 40 years old, and the 2016 Barbaresco Fausoni lets fly those menthol notes that are so characteristic of this vineyard in Neive. Slightly more balsamic in its aromatic profile than the other Barbarescos, this expression of Nebbiolo, sitting sur lies for two years, shows a very different tannic feel in a wine that offers surprising freshness and purity. Those minty Neive notes, its direct and linear nature, plus the very precise and sharply managed tannins make this cru a winner in my book. Some 6,000 bottles were made.
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2018
Crushed raspberry, rose petal, orange peel and mint lift from the glass in the 2016 Barbaresco Fausoni. Gracious and exquisitely beautiful, the 2016 is a wine of total class. Perfectly ripe, sweet tannins add to an impression of finesse. The 2016 is vivid, translucent and incredibly expressive, with a slightly darker tonality of fruit than the 2015 tasted alongside it.

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#58601

    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
The pale ruby 2021 Verduno Pelaverga has a brilliant reflective appearance and is lifted with notes of white pepper, wild strawberry, and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with fresh, attractive fruit through the palate as well as fine tannins, this approachable and easy-drinking red is perfectly served with a light chill. Drink over the next few years. (Audrey Frick)
    VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022
The 2021 Pelaverga Verduno is classy and elegant to the core. Crushed red berry fruit, sweet floral notes and a kick of citrus are all laced together. Burlotto’s silky, polished Pelaverga is about as good as it gets for this quirky variety. Aging in steel helped preserve quite a bit of freshness. (Antonio Galloni)
