Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.

The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.

A well-balanced Pinot Noir with a high glug-ability factor and a great bang-for-the-buck value. Find pronounced aromas and flavors of wild strawberries, forest floor, crushed roses and violets, red and black cherry, pomegranate, rhubarb, fennel, tarragon and just a touch of damp tree bark. WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2022
Significantly tannic but also flavorful enough to pull it off, this full-bodied wine is a good candidate for further aging. It brims with black currant, graphite and black cherry flavors that are vivid but not overblown, achieving good balance and complexity. Aged for 18 months in 40% new Hungarian oak barrels, it should be best from 2026. (Jim Gordon)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is the wine to focus on in this range in 2018. Dark and brooding, the 2018 is such a classic Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet. It offers up copious black fruit, dried herbs, chocolate, lavender and underbrush, all in a super-classic, mid-weight style that is hugely appealing. This might very well be the best value in artisan, high-end California Cabernet. (Antonio Galloni)

Subtle aromas of dark cherry, toasted mahogany and roasted nut are very balanced on the nose of this bottling. The palate offers incense and potpourri flavors against a fresh red-fruit element. On the spicy, peppery finish, the leathery tannins continue their grip. (Matt Kettmann)

  11. Mount Eden Vineyards Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#57543

    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is going to need a number of years to come around. The only question is how many. In 2017, the Mount Eden Cabernet is shockingly opulent. Inky black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and incense are all dialed up in this super-sized Cabernet. Even so, there is plenty of structure lurking beneath. I can’t wait to see how this ages.
    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
A brilliant, youthful, unevolved wine that will give Ridge’s Monte Bello a run for its money, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep ruby/purple hue to go with a wonderful perfume of blackcurrants, blueberries, lead pencil, vanilla bean, exotic flowers, tobacco, and bouquet garni. Needing plenty of air to show at its best, it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate and has a concentrated, powerful style, ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, aged in used French and American oak, it’s going to benefit from 4–6 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have 30–40 years of overall longevity. This has a zesty set of loganberry, raspberry and sweet bay leaf notes mixed together, along with flashes of violet, mesquite and anise. There’s a good tug of warm gravel running underneath and nice energy throughout. Should mellow nicely with cellaring. Best from 2024 through 2034. 1,285 cases made.
    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021
Balanced aromas of redwood and pine give depth to the asphalt and leather elements on the nose of this bottling. The American oak seems prominent on the dense, leathery palate, where dark and dried fruits play along with sandalwood and mahogany flavors.
    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21
This is a staunch mountain wine that needs a day of air to come out of its shell. It’s all hard edges at first, not so much about fruit, though the fruit is present; not inviting, but it leaves room for you to come inside. As the wine begins to relax, it feels like an old-fashioned cabernet with woodland flavors of mountain fruit and savory wild mushrooms. Powerful in its youthful structure, it needs a decade in the cellar for that structure to evolve.

  13. Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

    Monte Bello Vineyard
    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#57473

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - May 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers a hugely appealing mix of fruit richness married to the savory, structured style that is the Ridge signature. The 2019 is beautifully exotic, but natural without the volume of the Monte Bello. I imagine it will drink splendidly with minimal cellaring. Succulent red cherry, blood orange, mint, cinnamon and pomegranate. (Antonio Galloni)
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Distinctive, with a burst of singed vanilla and savory leading off, followed by dark plum and blackberry puree notes that stream through. Shows singed mesquite and a sanguine note as this unfolds. Sleek, tight-grained finish. Best from 2023 through 2033. 6,800 cases made. (James Molesworth)
