Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.

The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.

  1. Bastide Miraflors

Syrah & Vieilles Vignes de Grenache
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53342

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 22, 2021
Based on 74% Syrah and 26% Grenache brought up in in a combination of concrete tanks (for the Grenache) and one year old demi-muids (for the Syrah), the 2018 Cotes Du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a knockout bottle of wine. It offers loads of black fruits, roasted herbs, peppered meat, violets, and bacon fat as well as full-bodied richness, a round, opulent style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster finish. It’s one of the finest values out there. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  2. Chateau Maris La Touge

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#57830

    WS9595 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 06/22
Robert Eden pulls this wine from his biodynamically tended vineyards in the rocky, windy highlands of La Livinière. A blend of syrah with grenache and carignan, it’s a wine you can sink your teeth into, and it responds with juicy black fruit, spicy and fresh, and notes of mint, licorice and rose. Vinified in cement eggs and vats, it retains a sense of cool, stony clarity that brings light to its darkness and beams them into long-lasting fragrance. It’s at once firmly structured and ethereal, a balance that makes it addictive as well as potentially long-lived.

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jun 2020
The 2018 Languedoc Chateau Paul Mas Clos des Mures is 85% Syrah, rounded out with 10% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre. It’s a big, full-bodied wine, dominated by licorice, plum and black olive notes. The tannins are supple, even turning silky on the finish of this extroverted, personality-filled effort.

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#59075

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Jan 2023
The best version of this cuvée I can recall tasting, the 2020 Pic Saint Loup Coste d’Aleyrac is a softer, lusher, more generous wine than past (or succeeding) vintages, loaded with blackberry and black cherry fruit. Full, rich, velvety and long, it’s a terrific value. As usual, it’s an unoaked blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Carignan. (Joe Czerwinski)

  8. Domaine Cabirau Serge & Marie Maury Sec

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#53909

    JD92+92–94 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - September 6, 2019
A smaller production cuvée, the 2017 Maury Sec Serge & Marie checks in as 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan, and 10% Syrah that was brought up in a mix of foudre and used barrels. It’s also the first vintage for new winemaker Marie Verges as well as the first vintage to ever see small barrels, which were purchased from Guigal in the Northern Rhône. Deep purple-colored with a smoky, meaty bouquet of black fruits, licorice, crushed rocks, and black olives, it’s rich, full-bodied, beautifully textured, and layered on the palate, with ripe tannins. This fleshy, expansive barrel sample has tons of potential. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Jun 2020
Named for owner Dan Kravitz’s longtime vigneron (Serge) and the winemaker at the local co-op where the wine is made (Marie), the 2017 Maury Sec Serge & Marie offers subtle notes of leather layered over big black-cherry fruit and hints of garrigue and crushed stone. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 10% Syrah, aged in a combination of foudre and used barrels, it’s full-bodied, supple and expansive in the mouth, where it picks up nuances of raspberries and pencil shavings before finishing with gently dusty tannins and a note of dark chocolate.

  9. Domaine Cabirau Serge & Nicolas Maury Sec

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#47775

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Apr 2018
A blend of 63% Grenache, 23% Carignan and 14% Syrah aged partially in demi-muids, the 2016 Maury Sec Serge & Nicolas (named after the estate manager and the winemaker) is a dark, brooding, representation of ripe fruit and crushed stone. Some brighter raspberry notes emerge with air, and while there’s ample weight and richness, the wine is by no means heavy or overly weighty. It’s a well-balanced but hearty red at a terrific price.

  12. Domaine La Tour Vieille Collioure Puig Ambeille

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#53279

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2019
Mainly Mourvèdre, the 2017 Collioure Puig Ambeille also includes 25% Grenache and 5% Syrah. Notes of cola-like spice and Mediterranean herbs lead the way, backed by ample amounts of dark berry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it’s a nicely complex and balanced red from a region that can sometimes yield wines that are too big and clumsy.
