Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.
The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.
JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, December 6, 2022 Cinnamon, baking spices to the dried strawberries, redcurrants and thyme. Mediterranean herbs. Juicy and firm on the medium-bodied palate with some chewy tannins that prop up the structure for the elegant red berry fruit in the middle. Vegan. Drink now. (James Suckling)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022 The 2020 Red Blend Capitulo Flying Fish is a blend of 35% Carignan, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 10% Malbec, 4.5% Tannat and 4.5% Petite Sirah. Dark purple in color. The attractive nose offers faint notes of blackberry, raspberry, country herbs and a hint of mint. Juicy and smooth, this has a simple, flavorful flow and a fruity finish. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/22/2021 Based largely on Carignan, with 30% Garnacha and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Priorat has a big, smoky nose of mulled red and black fruits, graphite, flowers, and new leather. This carries to a medium to full-bodied wine with terrific tannins (especially for Carignan), a balanced, elegant texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - August 16, 2019 A new wine coming from the Gard region of the Southern Rhône, the 2017 IGP Gard Confluence is almost all Carignan (there’s 5% Grenache) brought up in a mix of demi-muids and old barrels. This inky colored effort gives up classic Carignan notes of ripe red and blue fruits, new leather, candied violets, and spice. With beautiful purity, medium body, and fine tannins, it’s a beautiful example of Carignan that’s going to keep for 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2019 Easygoing and nicely fruity, this medium-bodied wine will be great for casual occasions and people with varied tastes. It uses organic grapes and no added sulfites. The aroma exudes raspberry and strawberry while the flavors are cherry-like and verge on sweet.
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022 It’s always interesting to taste two vintages of the same wine side by side. 2020 was a heterogeneous year with ups and downs, as it was challenging, and the wines reflect the work in the vineyard in a difficult time during the pandemic. The 2020 Cirerets, 60% Garnacha and 40% Cariñena, shows clean aromas and flavors, definition and elegance within the powerful, ripe and concentrated style from Priorat and the winery. 17,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 Perfumed aromas of black fruit, graphite, violets, pine cones and sandalwood. It’s full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Structured and rich with a chalky texture. Deliciously layered and concentrated with a long, flavorful finish. A blend 49% carignan, 22% malbec, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 14% syrah. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - May 2021 The 2015 Aliara is a blend of 46% Carignan, 33% Malbec, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Syrah from Cauquenes, Maule, aged for up to 22 months in French oak. Garnet-red in the glass. The nose of cigar box, black currant and layers of jam and chocolate comes encased in woody flavors. Fine-grained tannins and juicy freshness dominate in the mouth, while the oak returns at the end. Cleansing and flavorsome, this is a serious, expressive wine. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Apr 2018 I tasted two vintages of the entry-level red, the youngest of which was the 2016 Ritme Negre, which is young and fleshy, with good acidity and freshness. It’s approachable, tasty and easy to drink. It’s mostly Cariñena with 3% Garnacha. 58,644 bottles produced.
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/14/2020 Tasted out of bottle, the 2018 Côtes Catalanes Tessellae displays a spicy, complex style that carries vivid red and blue fruits, leather, licorice, tree bark, and peppery herbs aromas and flavors. Playing in the more medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it has solid purity of fruit, silky tannins, and a good finish. Enjoy this plump, pleasure-bent effort over the coming 3–4 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Jun 2014 The 2011 Vigno Single Vineyard La Aguada is a field blend from an un-grafted, dry-farmed, head-pruned old vineyard called La Aguada in Sauzal, in the coastal mountain range in Maule, one of the closest Carignan plots to the Pacific Ocean in the region, which was planted with a mixture of approximately 90% Carignan and 10% other red varieties (Pais, Carmenere, Cinsault and Malbec) in 1955. It has a beautiful perfumed nose with elegant yet rustic touches of cured meats, tree bark, a touch of smoke, ripe cherries and subtle sweet spices with very good acidity, good tension, and delineated pure flavors. A yummy, supple, meaty, delicious bottle of wine, very drinkable and food-friendly. It’s drinking well now, but it should also age well. This is simply superb, elegant, fresh, balanced, a great expression of Carignan and the Maule. At this quality level this is a real bargain. Super! Drink now–2019.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2015 Brilliant ruby. Aromas of fresh raspberry and cherry, with suave floral and mineral nuances adding vivacity. On the palate, sappy, palate-staining red and dark berry flavors put on weight and gain sweetness with air. A powerful yet lithe blend with excellent finishing clarity and fine-grained tannins sneaking in slowly to add grip.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2014 A minerally and exuberantly fruity red, filled with expressive raspberry, cherry and crushed red plum flavors. Snappy midpalate, with a fresh and focused finish, showing plenty of red currant notes. Drink now through 2017. 600 cases made.
