Pinot Noir, the grape behind Burgundy wine, is the ultimate food-pairing wine. Whether it be a hearty red meat dish or light seafood/pasta dish, chances are Pinot Noir will pair well with it. This also makes Pinot Noir wine one of the best red wines for gifting at dinner parties!
The Pinot Noir grape thrives in cooler climates such as those where it originated in Burgundy. Wine lovers appreciate its versatility - it's one of the few wines that's both approachable as a young wine and complex and delicious as it ages. The best red wines made from Pinot Noir grapes are typically found in Burgundy, California, and Oregon, but you'll find examples of this wine from all over the world.

JD96+96+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2022 Looking at the Sta. Rita Hills releases, the 2020 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard has a complex bouquet of spiced red berry fruits as well as forest floor, loamy earth, baking spices, and some sea-like brine and iron nuances. Beautiful on the palate, it’s tight, structured, and focused, with medium to full-bodied richness, present tannins, and a great finish. It needs a year or two, but this is brilliant juice. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 The 2020 Pinot Noir Zotovich Vineyard Seabiscuit is terrific. It captures all the lift and savory intensity typical of this site but with the added fruit concentration and depth that are such Paul Lato signatures. Crushed rose petal, mint, dried herbs and red-fleshed fruit abound. This is one of the more restrained Pinots in the Lato portfolio, in relative terms. (Antonio Galloni)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 Quite ripe, with a gush of plum and boysenberry fruit flavors laced with light anise and violet accents. Friendly, fruit-forward finish. Drink now through 2024. 12,260 cases made. (James Molesworth)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2022 Ripe and decadently spiced, with concentrated kirsch, dark plum and cola flavors that are well-knit. The plush, creamy finish packs Asian spice notes. Drink now through 2025. 9,885 cases made. (Kim Marcus)WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 This is an extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir, showing kirsch, cola, root beer and anise on the nose. The powerful extraction extends to the sip as well, where black cherry, pie crust and vanilla bean flavors sit atop a thick mouthfeel, with a touch of prune on the finish. (Matt Kettmann)
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022 Red-cherry and light smoke aromas are fresh and charming on the nose of this bottling. The palate hits with bright flashes of raspberry and cherry, as sumac and star anise add intrigue and the acidity lingers long. (Matt Kettmann)
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 31, 2019 Slightly lighter colored, the 2017 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard comes from sandy soils and was 80% destemmed and brought up in 10% new French oak. Beautiful rose petal and spring flower notes as well as hints of sweet strawberry and cherry all flow to an ethereal, medium-bodied, silky Pinot Noir that has ultra-fine tannins, perfect balance, and a beautiful finish. It’s a fabulous effort that relies more on finesse, elegance, and purity than power and richness. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Sep 2019 The 2017 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard has a pale to medium ruby color and classic nose of woodsmoke, cola, cranberry, rhubarb, wild blackberries, oolong tea, dried strawberry and amaro. It’s light to medium-bodied, with ripe, spicy fruits, a beautiful silky texture and supporting frame of juicy acidity with grainy tannins and a very long, spicy finish. 447 cases produced.WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2019 Candied cherry, mint leaves, thyme-flecked earth and a hint of toasted wood show on the nose of this bottling. The palate is fresh and yet savory, showing roasted cranberry and raspberry alongside wild tarragon and sagebrush flavors.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019 The 2017 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard is a gorgeous wine that is also very expressive of this site. Light, airy and beautifully perfumed, with exquisite finesse to boot, the 2017 is a real winner. The 10–15% whole clusters add aromatic nuance without marking the wine to a significant degree. This is an especially ethereal, but very pretty, wine from Gavin Chanin. Dried cherry, sweet tobacco, mint and dried flowers grace the silky, inviting finish.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 Pale ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills offers fragrant scents of cranberry, forest floor and tar, with ringing notes of violet and aniseed. The medium-bodied palate features just-ripe, floral red fruits and abundant Angostura-like accents. It has fine, powdery, tannins and bursts of mouthwatering acidity that call you in for another sip on the long, flavorful finish. This detailed, layered Pinot Noir way overdelivers for its appellation-wide status. (Erin Brooks)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 Medium ruby, the 2021 Fundamental Pinot Noir has inviting aromas of cranberry sauce, orange peel, licorice and loads of amaro-like accents. Medium-bodied, it’s silky and refreshing with a deep core of berry fruit and a long, layered finish. This is a lovely Pinot Noir with a notable quality-to-price ratio! (Erin Brooks)
